Based on Larry's set, the sound is a thousand times better at MSG than it was at Izod...thank God!

i will say that the sound was crystal and the best i have ever heard at the garden 4 a prince show

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I agree with the posters who thought the show lacked energy - especially the second half. I normally dance through an entire show; not this time. These hits are getting really, really old with me. I realize he has to play to the audience which was probably not 90% Purple Hippies but still. Musicology was an arena tour and he tore it up then! I'll never forget Whole Lotta Love in Hartford. In my opinion , he just wasn't that into it last night. He said something about,'listen to the horns' and I honestly didn't hear any. I miss those horns. I miss Prince having a blast with his guitar. Maybe he has a cold sad

Sheila E. was the highlight for sure. All of those celebrities at the end of the show? I was like WHO CARES? The merchandise was cool. I got both t shirts and the symbol necklace. Woke up with a spending hangover. Might as well have gotten the tour book, poster and skull cap.

Where the celebs sitting? In the "VIP" tables that were on sale to the public or in a truly separate VIP area?

U mean at the concert or the aftershow? At the concert most of the celebs were in the VIP area with the tables. ?uest tho was off the floor I think, looking at some of the pics he posted, which if you ask me, is a better view.

At VU they were in the "VIP" section, it was a long couch blocked off by a metal... pole I guess.

4 the past couple of years all i have been told was 'oh l4 u weren't there 2 know how it was so i don't know why ur "hating" so much"

WELL

I WAS THERE LAST NIGHT AT THE GARDEN AND I CAN TELL U NOW THAT I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN PRINCE SO MUCH LAST NIGHT!!

now this isn't just a slam or "negative" review cause there were some nice moments

HIGHLIGHTS:

prince has always had a nice lighting system 4 his shows and last night was no exception. THE STAGE IS HOT!!! I LOVE IT!! the lighting design was HOT!!! and from where my seats were in the so called "nosebleeds" i was able 2 see everything happening on that stage prior 2 a lot of folks at the garden, including when during graham central stations set, i saw prince hop up b4 the lights hit his area. and the same when sheila e came out during u got the look, clear as day could see her about 2 pop up.

graham central station and larry's bass playing was HOT!!

hearing the new song Welcome 2 America was HOT!! just wished that the lights weren't out during the song or that prince could have been on stage visible

Shhh ..JOHN BLACKWELL bow AND FINALLY A prince song!! John's drumstics were either laser, LED or glow in the dark..HOT!!!

Hearing uptown live finally ..HOT ..tho it sucks that many didn't know that song but wanna scream 4 raspberry beret ...SERIOUSLY?!!!

Prince's energy was very high and it was nice seeing him dance more and have his "billie jean" moment during kiss

Ida looked HOT!! i swear prince must have pulled her 2 the side and said "look ur funky on the bass but the jeans and t shirt thing..AIN'T HAPPENING in my band"

NOT SO HOT MOMENTS:

seriously ur gonna invite just celebs on the stage and not ur true fans? tho seeing alicia keys on stage was a nice treat

seriously ur gonna play disco heat but not dance 4 me or even the dance electric? ur gonna play that shit? wow!!

what happend 2 the days of prince having his band members have a spot light and say their names through the course of the show?

and the rest of the setlist ..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz damn is this the same prince that i grew up with?

BONUS MOMENTS

meeting up with banks ..yo bro 4 blocks down ..u should have said 4 blocks across as well lol

estelle81 ..finally!!! hug

bbq's!!! damn i want some wings now lol

meeting up at the apollo afterwards seeing pri, newpowersoul

and last but not least ..seeing my girl npggirl77!! Mwah!! get home safe hun!!

what i take from this experinece is the joy of seeing old friends and meeting new ones, but prince seriously ..u need 2 step up ur game again son and go back 2 the prince that belived in the new music and took it by the horses mane and rode it and didn't give a shit what anyone else thinks about it

Gotta agree with the bolded! SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!

But seriously the stage was fan fukking tastic! The lighting on the stage and the lights in general were amazing! I was in awe of the damn symbol stage for real, it was like an entity onto itself.

And I think it was earlier in this thread that I said I was kinda upset at him bringing all those "celebs" on stage with him instead of true fans who love and support him and who paid out the ASS for their seats and didn't have them comped, OR have that long money to be able to afford them. That wasn't fun for me, I don't care about those people.

And LOL @ u feening for BBQ's wings. I work right around there and kinda dig that place. Cheap eats and drinks and love their hot wings. lol

Oh... oh Sheila! Highlight of the night for sure, I think she got the biggest screams and applause. She really didn't even have to play, the way she rose from the stage and strutted out with her fine self.

I decided against the tshirts, I knew I'd either never wear them, or wear them to DEATH. I got the poster, the book and the beret. I'd been looking for a raspberry beret for like YEARS now, so I couldn't pass that up.

Everyone here pretty much gave a good report of what went down. In the beginning of Prince's segment of the show, Prince and the band opened with a song called "Welcome2America", which is apparently a track with a socio-political tone. I have to say though, that Prince kicked NYC's ass last night at MSG with his performance--he mopped, swept, waxed and shined the funk out of MSG last night, while seducing and teasing the audience in that red hot, sexy outfit he had on, and the moves he made in it. Lawd have mercy ladies and gents... I'm just sayin' lol It kind of felt like he took us back to the Lovesexy era for a minute. I loved that version of "Kiss" he sang as well. He worked every corner of that stage the entire night, even the back part of the stage, that some fans thought he would not come near or that they would not get a chance to see him. He was definitely in high energy at MSG. He had the majority of the audience on their feet most of the show. I loved the black cape he had on when he came out to jam with Larry Graham, during Larry's performance. It was similar to the one Janelle Monae wears when she performs. His performance of "The Beautiful Ones" was awesome and the Misty Copeland dancing while he sang that song, helped to top the performance off.

Prince and Larry brought a double-dose of funk when they jammed together. I have to say, I was impressed with Larry's bass playing, and the appreciation he received from the audience. He kicked that bass' ass all over MSG last night. The funk was so dense from his bass playing, foot spray and disinfectant would not have had a chance in clearing that funk out. I have even more appreciation and respect for him as a bass player/musician, especially one who played with Sly and the Family Stone, and was part of some great hits/classics from an era where so many socio-political events were happening at the time. Larry proved and is is definitely the King of bass and funk, no question.

One of the nicest moments of the show, was the duet with Prince and Shelby singing, "Nothing Compares 2 U" and how they performed. It was not hard to notice the respect and appreciation among their friendship. I also have to give Shelby, Elisa and Liv a hand, because they too "worked the stage", every part of it, hyping the audience. I loved the large, gold fans all 3 ladies were waving while singing on some of the songs, as they stood by the piano at one point. Their harmonizing is so on point.

Sheila E came onto the stage like the beautiful Queen she knows she is, wearing an eye-catching, fitted, gold and black dress with a short train. She had the audience in awe when she graced us with her presence and performance, and naturally as always, NY gave her love. Always good to see Sheila E as part of Prince's concerts. One funny part, was when Sheila E came back out, after she changed into pants, and she handed Prince her jacket, and he walked away with it to find somewhere to lay it, and when he laid it down on the bench, he told the camera guys (paraphrasing) "Don't film this part".lol

As for the celebrities, it was hilarious when Prince called Sherri Shepherd on stage, he told her to come up and then said "Oh no not Sherri Shepherd!", to Sheila E, and jokingly played like he was about to run away, but came back and said (paraphrasing) "Sherri, come up here and show us what you really want to do!". Earlier during his performance, he gave Sherri a shoutout during one of his songs, so those of you who were in the PM&M forum a couple of days back, criticizing her over that statement she made to him, it was apparent last night, that Prince appreciates Sherri Shepherd and apparently had no problem calling her on stage last night. There were quite the celebrities there, Prince and Sheila E called up Dr. Cornel West,

?uestlove, Naomi Campbell, Sherri Shepherd . Then other celebs got up there--Alicia Keys, Spike Lee, AJ Calloway, and more. Also, Bria Valente got on stage to dance as well, and she looked very pretty, in a sparkling, black dress with an open back. They were all having a good time. I saw some fans complained that it was because of the celebs that he didn't do another encore, but I believe it was the 11pm curfew is why there was no encore, and it was already around 10:45pm when the celebs were called on stage, so no I don't think there would have been another encore regardless. A friend of mine text me who had a friend who worked there to let her know that was it for the night.

Good show;good performance, high energy. I have to say that anywhere you sat, other than the VIP/floor seats, you had a good view, thanks to the jumbo screens, which although I was sitting in the promenade 100s section, the big screens helped a lot, and you were able to have a very, good view of what was going on onstage. Can't wait to see what they bring on 29th at MSG!headbang

No it's not, lol , but thanks for clearing that part up for me, because I thought that was what he said, and so did the people next to me, but I'll correct that part of my post. Anyway, it was very cool the way he joked around about it, when Sheila gave him her jacket to hold.

[Edited 12/19/10 11:11am]

He did say "don't sit on this..." He actually wanted to keep it, talking bout he was gonna put it in his closet. It's so cute that they are the same size. Hell it would probably be too big for him! Sheila was looking RIGHT last night! Good Lawd! I'm a woman and totally straight but she was so HOT! The dress!!! THEN had the nerve to come BACK out with the leggings and the killer thigh high boots! WHOOOO!!!!!

Okay, that's been cleared up already, but thanks. lol Sheila E walked out with such confidence, trust and believe she could not be ignored.lol

Sheila E was fantastic. The highlight of the show, in my opinion.

I was on the floor. The sound was a little muddy.

Overall I prefered the Musicology show.

And as others have mentioned.. what the heck? If you are at a VIP table you can't see anything!

The folks who danced on the floor by the tip of the arrow were another highlight of the evening. Thanks if you were one of them.

The 11pm curfew at Madison Square Garden was adhered to.

was it me or did sheila get more props than prince last night? she looked stunning!!

and that curfew is 4 the birds!! so much 4 prince playing all night lol

did anybody go to the aftershow someone tweeted he did erotic city? eek

I was at the afterparty. He didn't perform at all. Larry did a song or two with the band that was already on stage and at one point P came up to the stage to check out the handwork of the bass player. The band that was performing did Erotic City. That was ?uest that tweeted that, it's funny,he was standing right next to me when I saw him pull out his blackberry! LOL! It was awkward considering Larry and P are both JW's now.... Has P even performed that song in the past few years?

Oh so you got in and found out where the afterparty was. Cool. If it was an actual aftershow, that would have been cool too. biggrin

Yeah I was bit disappointed, but expected that, especially after seeing all the celebs that were at the concert. I wouldn't expect him to "perform" for them, but I was thinking there was sure to be an afterparty of some sort.

Absolutely. It was apparent he took no offense to what she said on the view. He acknowledged her presence at the show earlier in the evening last night, when he called out her name, during one of his performances, and lly joked around with her at MSG when he specifically called her up to the stage to dance. Wouldn't surprise me if he heard about all the unnecessary flack Sherri caught from fans, criticizing her for what she said, when in fact, didn't seem to bother Prince at all and was no big deal to him. Anyway I had a great time last night at MSG. I'm still sleepy after the fun last night. My eyes are slantier than they normally are right now from lack of sleep. lol I had people texting me during the show, and after the show, up until 2 am, about any aftershow info, and I appreciate how well they kept in touch trying to find out or share that info, about a possible aftershow. I even heard from some Prince fans, I haven't seen in over 3 years, who still had my phone number, which I was so happy to hear from.

It's always fun to be at a Prince concert at MSG, because it's always high energy there. NYC was so congested with people traffic in the 34th street area, it was ridiculous. So many tourists here around the holiday, as well as , New Yorkers out doing holiday shopping. I swear you would think that we're not gong through hard economic times here, the way folks was out spending this weekend. It will be more people here during the week of the 29th show, so I'm preparing myself for that.lol

[Edited 12/19/10 9:21am]

princeExactly! Also people been complaining here about the same & short setlist."Uptown" & "Cream" he rarely performs live. "Cool" is new to the setlist. Didn't he perform the full versions of each song?

Prince rarely does that which brings the songs out more with adding new arrangements to them.Which cuts the setlist. Plus the big arena shows are for the casual fans that like to hear the classics not the rarities.........Most here don't recognize that or even care to.prince

perhaps it's because the die hards have stuck with him through thick and thin while the casual listerner abanded him thus some may feel we deserve the rarities more than the classics. and even tho he wrote cool, that's a time song and i would rather hear morris do it than prince. he has more arsenal in his tank 2 deliver ..tho i won't shoot down hearing the screams of passion as posted in the tour book

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

This show was off the chain!!! I only sat down for 2 seconds and this girl beat me up and ordered me to get back up! I was down in VIP (Section B, Row D, Seat 11). This was an excellent seat and gave me a good view of everything. A multitude of celebs in area as well (Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Sheppard, Naomi Campbell, Spike Lee, ?uestlove, Sinbad, Larry Graham & his lovely wife). The energy was off the meter in our section. We were dancing our asses off. I had 4 Bria Valente sightings and she's a very beautiful woman indeed razz . Prince ruled over us as he knew he would from the first note of the evening. There was this beautiful young lady behind me who was crying during 'Purple Rain'. It was her birthday(she turned 30) and this was her first Prince concert ever. She told me she never thought she'd get to hear him sing 'Purple Rain' live. I put my arm around her and we sang the ad libs together. I told her that this was very special because Prince very rarely plays the entire song as he did last night. Happy Birthday indeed! Prior to the show I had dinner and drinks with fellow org members and it was great. We all connected instantly and wound up hanging out after the show! It was definitely a beautiful night.

Much props 2 Banks 4 showing us a great time after the show and to Estelle81 for setting up the get 2gether at BBQ's!

(AHH THIS IS THE SAME STAGE FROM MUSICOLOGY TOUR & SUPER BOWL OR DID YOU MISS THAT FACT?)

graham central station and larry's bass playing was HOT!!

hearing the new song Welcome 2 America was HOT!! just wished that the lights weren't out during the song or that prince could have been on stage visible (PRINCE WAS UNDER THE STAGE CAUSE THEY WHEELED HIM OUT IN A ROAD CASE WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT I COULD SEE THIS FROM WHERE I SAT)

Shhh ..JOHN BLACKWELL bow AND FINALLY A prince song!! John's drumstics were either laser, LED or glow in the dark..HOT!!! (WELL SHHH WAS TEVIN BEFORE PRINCE STARTED DOING IT LIVE , HE DID I Love U, but I Don't Trust U Anymore Friday nite at IZOD
& THE STICKS WHERE LED, SHELBY, LIV & ELISA HAD THEM ALSO)

(SORRY HE CANT PLAY OUR OWN PERSONAL SET LIST! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? THIS WASNT A PRIVATE SHOW FOR YOU, WE PAID TO SEE HIM JUST LIKE YOU AND IF HE WANTED TO SING THE PHONE BOOK HE COULD)

BONUS MOMENTS

meeting up with banks ..yo bro 4 blocks down ..u should have said 4 blocks across as well lol

estelle81 ..finally!!! hug

bbq's!!! damn i want some wings now lol

meeting up at the apollo afterwards seeing pri, newpowersoul

and last but not least ..seeing my girl npggirl77!! Mwah!! get home safe hun!!

what i take from this experinece is the joy of seeing old friends and meeting new ones, but prince seriously ..u need 2 step up ur game again son and go back 2 the prince that belived in the new music and took it by the horses mane and rode it and didn't give a shit what anyone else thinks about it (SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE HATER)

maybe you should just stick to your bootlegs... perhaps?

Friday nite included Love Thy Will Be Done, Guitar

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

It seemed most of the celebs were seated in the table section at the bottom of the horn prince . I was in section B and so was Sherri Sheppard and Naomi Campbell. I don't believe all of theose tables were for sale in that section. Larry was at a table. So was Sinbad & Whoopi. Spike Lee & ?uestlove were in the $200 seats right behind the $500 VIP section.

Cheap eats and drinks and love their hot wings. lol

see the stage was the selling point 4 me going otherwise i wouldn't have bothered lol..eyrkah badu's show at radio city was more inspiriing 2 me than last nights show. i don't know i did like his dancing energy but it's just gotta change with the setlist. Welcome 2 america has a funky ass bassline tho!! i want that song on a cd 2 bump in my ride!!

and as 4 bbq's ..i love that restaurant whether it's on amerstadam, 72nd street or the one in the village ...that maragarita snuck up on me!! lol

She was stunning in the dress. Absolutely breath-taking. The stupid camera man for the video screens was showing Prince when he was standing by her drums. I was thinking "hey, he's on the whole show... show HER, show HER!".

Sadly she put on black pants for the 2nd song she was out for at the end. Did not look as good as the dress.

Bad quality photo here... but the caption is exactly what was going through my mind. She truly was stunning.

Isn't there an award that comes out every year for best set design for a concert series. Prince should definately win. The symbol stage with the lighting effects is simply breathtaking.

Why the heck isn't he with Sheila??? They looked SO good together for REAL! I mean I KNOW why, I mean it's 2010 and that was years ago and everybody's moved on and all, but still y'all know what I mean. I think it's so cute that they have a history together but still manage to keep it professional and work together on accasion. Their chemistry cannot be denied.

Can u tell I'm still on a Sheila high? cool
