Sheila E came onto the stage like the beautiful Queen she knows she is, wearing an eye-catching, fitted, gold and black dress with a short train. She had the audience in awe when she graced us with her presence and performance, and naturally as always, NY gave her love. Always good to see Sheila E as part of Prince's concerts. One funny part, was when Sheila E came back out, after she changed into pants, and she handed Prince her jacket, and he walked away with it to find somewhere to lay it, and when he laid it down on the bench, he told the camera guys (paraphrasing) "Don't film this part".lol

This is a silly thing to get technical about, but I think he actually said, "Don't sit on this" (he was saying it to Renato as he placed Sheila's jacket on Renato's bench). Prince was cute with the jacket, because right before that, he said, "Oooh, this is nice. I think I'm going to take this home" or something like that. And the reason Sheila took off her jacket in the first place was very cool: She was taking John Blackwell's place on the drums. She only played for a minute or two; I was really hoping Prince was going to call for her to do a drum solo, because that would have kicked ass.

Oh I forgot to add Maceo Parker jammed to at the after set at Izod on friday night. God I miss the horn section on his tours.

Also the chick who plays Nurse Jackie was at the MSG show last night too

i would kill for prince to play darling nikki or sexy mf again.

is he still a jehova's witness??

seems like he's backed off on that a bit.

darling nikki and sexy mf are 2 of my favorite songs ever.

I loved the show, I thought it was fantastic.... something was missing tho... And I was upset that it ended at 11 and not 11:30 or so like the Jersey shows did. I wanted more Sheila. And I could have cared LESS about all the celebs he dragged up on stage. Who cares? They always get prime shit anyway, he shoulda gave that moment to the fans.

That red outfit he wore for Kiss??? LAWD have MERCY!!! I hope someone somewhere has some still shots of that cause I ... just... WOW. Too much!

Bria was indeed there. She was also with him at the afterparty.

Overall I enjoyed myself and had a great time, I guess I was just expecting more. I dunno. I'm not knocking it tho, it was a great experience, I'll never forget it. I was considering buying tickets for the Jan 18th show, but I think I won't. Once was good enough for me.

CAn WE get a picture of that RED outfit U guys R talking about????????????????

That pic of the red outfit doesn't even show all the epicness it contained. For a little dude P's packing a whole lot. But we already knew that. wink

Everyone here pretty much gave a good report of what went down. In the beginning of Prince's segment of the show, Prince and the band opened with a song called "Welcome2America", which is apparently a track with a socio-political tone. I have to say though, that Prince kicked NYC's ass last night at MSG with his performance--he mopped, swept, waxed and shined the funk out of MSG last night, while seducing and teasing the audience in that red hot, sexy outfit he had on, and the moves he made in it. Lawd have mercy ladies and gents... I'm just sayin' lol It kind of felt like he took us back to the Lovesexy era for a minute. I loved that version of "Kiss" he sang as well. He worked every corner of that stage the entire night, even the back part of the stage, that some fans thought he would not come near or that they would not get a chance to see him. He was definitely in high energy at MSG. He had the majority of the audience on their feet most of the show. I loved the black cape he had on when he came out to jam with Larry Graham, during Larry's performance. It was similar to the one Janelle Monae wears when she performs. His performance of "The Beautiful Ones" was awesome and the Misty Copeland dancing while he sang that song, helped to top the performance off.

Prince and Larry brought a double-dose of funk when they jammed together. I have to say, I was impressed with Larry's bass playing, and the appreciation he received from the audience. He kicked that bass' ass all over MSG last night. The funk was so dense from his bass playing, foot spray and disinfectant would not have had a chance in clearing that funk out. I have even more appreciation and respect for him as a bass player/musician, especially one who played with Sly and the Family Stone, and was part of some great hits/classics from an era where so many socio-political events were happening at the time. Larry proved and is is definitely the King of bass and funk, no question.

One of the nicest moments of the show, was the duet with Prince and Shelby singing, "Nothing Compares 2 U" and how they performed. It was not hard to notice the respect and appreciation among their friendship. I also have to give Shelby, Elisa and Liv a hand, because they too "worked the stage", every part of it, hyping the audience. I loved the large, gold fans all 3 ladies were waving while singing on some of the songs, as they stood by the piano at one point. Their harmonizing is so on point.

As for the celebrities, it was hilarious when Prince called Sherri Shepherd on stage, he told her to come up and then said "Oh no not Sherri Shepherd!", to Sheila E, and jokingly played like he was about to run away, but came back and said (paraphrasing) "Sherri, come up here and show us what you really want to do!". Earlier during his performance, he gave Sherri a shoutout during one of his songs, so those of you who were in the PM&M forum a couple of days back, criticizing her over that statement she made to him, it was apparent last night, that Prince appreciates Sherri Shepherd and apparently had no problem calling her on stage last night. There were quite the celebrities there, Prince and Sheila E called up Dr. Cornel West,

?uestlove, Naomi Campbell, Sherri Shepherd . Then other celebs got up there--Alicia Keys, Spike Lee, AJ Calloway, and more. Also, Bria Valente got on stage to dance as well, and she looked very pretty, in a sparkling, black dress with an open back. They were all having a good time. I saw some fans complained that it was because of the celebs that he didn't do another encore, but I believe it was the 11pm curfew is why there was no encore, and it was already around 10:45pm when the celebs were called on stage, so no I don't think there would have been another encore regardless. A friend of mine text me who had a friend who worked there to let her know that was it for the night.

Good show;good performance, high energy. I have to say that anywhere you sat, other than the VIP/floor seats, you had a good view, thanks to the jumbo screens, which although I was sitting in the promenade 100s section, the big screens helped a lot, and you were able to have a very, good view of what was going on onstage. Can't wait to see what they bring on 29th at MSG!headbang

If there really is an 11:00 curfew at MSG then for the January 18th show he should have no opening act and just play for a good three hours for his last show--do the entire set list that is in the tour book and throw in a couple of surprises---go out with a bang!

No it's not, lol , but thanks for clearing that part up for me, because I thought that was what he said, and so did the people next to me, but I'll correct that part of my post. Anyway, it was very cool the way he joked around about it, when Sheila gave him her jacket to hold.

there technically is, however he can work out a deal if he wishes. it just needs to be done prior to the show.

the union is as tough as the mlb players union. i used to work in the trade show industry and it's the same union. the ot rates aren't simple double time. the rates actually triple.

what's worse is that even though prince has his own roadies etc.. he still has to pay the same number of union members he has working the breakdown even though they aren't really working. it's disgusting what goes on.

i'm close friends with many famous musicians and what they tell me about the ny unions compared to the rest of the country is outrageous. the only city that comes close is chicago.

i hope that he can work something out because i would like him to go out with a bang too!!

This show was off the chain!!! I only sat down for 2 seconds and this girl beat me up and ordered me to get back up! I was down in VIP (Section B, Row D, Seat 11). This was an excellent seat and gave me a good view of everything. A multitude of celebs in area as well (Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Sheppard, Naomi Campbell, Spike Lee, ?uestlove, Sinbad, Larry Graham & his lovely wife). The energy was off the meter in our section. We were dancing our asses off. I had 4 Bria Valente sightings and she's a very beautiful woman indeed razz . Prince ruled over us as he knew he would from the first note of the evening. There was this beautiful young lady behind me who was crying during 'Purple Rain'. It was her birthday(she turned 30) and this was her first Prince concert ever. She told me she never thought she'd get to hear him sing 'Purple Rain' live. I put my arm around her and we sang the ad libs together. I told her that this was very special because Prince very rarely plays the entire song as he did last night. Happy Birthday indeed! Prior to the show I had dinner and drinks with fellow org members and it was great. We all connected instantly and wound up hanging out after the show! It was definitely a beautiful night.

Much props 2 Banks 4 showing us a great time after the show and to Estelle81 for setting up the get 2gether at BBQ's!

Mixed feelings about this show, this was my 76th time seeing Prince, and u cant top the mans musicianship and abiltiy to play and be a true showman also, and give it all he's got. But i would rank this show and tour so far, in the lower half of shows i have seen, its almost like "Musicology" lite tour, the hits list is getting stale, though i was glad for the full versions of things this time around, on previous tours he tended to jam in medleys, so going in to this tour i knew being all the opening stuff that there would be shorter shows , this one ran 1hr and 40 minutes or so, one of his shortest shows i can remember at least of the ones i have been too. There were many highlights dont get me wrong, but this is just both views of the show. As for MSG having a curfew, not true, it depends on the artist, but ive seen plenty of shows that have gone beyond 11pm, elton john comes to mind, jovi, and im sure springsteen though i havent seen him there, has gone well past 11. And to my recollection though its 6 years ago, the msg shows for musicology ended around 11:15-11:30 at least.

Was at village underground. Our limo driver alerted us when p came in. House band also did a shout out to p. He did not play and didn't stay that long. The house band did erotic city (if i recall correctly, seems they did some p number). I paid $10 to get in and was there about an hour and a half before he arrived. Dj then house band. Crowded n everyone had fun dancing. My cousin thinks he bumped into prince's arm when walked by him, I don't know he was drunk so unreliable info there!...young kids! I heard people couldn't get in after a certain time to club and I know when we went in they were tryin g to steer people into different areas but we just walked up n told doorman we wanted to go into village underground. It could be because it was so crowded they couldn't let anyone else in later but just made room for the celebs. I didn't see one celeb in there but p.

He did say "don't sit on this..." He actually wanted to keep it, talking bout he was gonna put it in his closet. It's so cute that they are the same size. Hell it would probably be too big for him! Sheila was looking RIGHT last night! Good Lawd! I'm a woman and totally straight but she was so HOT! The dress!!! THEN had the nerve to come BACK out with the leggings and the killer thigh high boots! WHOOOO!!!!!

4 the past couple of years all i have been told was 'oh l4 u weren't there 2 know how it was so i don't know why ur "hating" so much"

WELL

I WAS THERE LAST NIGHT AT THE GARDEN AND I CAN TELL U NOW THAT I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN PRINCE SO MUCH LAST NIGHT!!

now this isn't just a slam or "negative" review cause there were some nice moments

HIGHLIGHTS:

prince has always had a nice lighting system 4 his shows and last night was no exception. THE STAGE IS HOT!!! I LOVE IT!! the lighting design was HOT!!! and from where my seats were in the so called "nosebleeds" i was able 2 see everything happening on that stage prior 2 a lot of folks at the garden, including when during graham central stations set, i saw prince hop up b4 the lights hit his area. and the same when sheila e came out during u got the look, clear as day could see her about 2 pop up.

graham central station and larry's bass playing was HOT!!

hearing the new song Welcome 2 America was HOT!! just wished that the lights weren't out during the song or that prince could have been on stage visible

Shhh ..JOHN BLACKWELL bow AND FINALLY A prince song!! John's drumstics were either laser, LED or glow in the dark..HOT!!!

Hearing uptown live finally ..HOT ..tho it sucks that many didn't know that song but wanna scream 4 raspberry beret ...SERIOUSLY?!!!

Prince's energy was very high and it was nice seeing him dance more and have his "billie jean" moment during kiss

Ida looked HOT!! i swear prince must have pulled her 2 the side and said "look ur funky on the bass but the jeans and t shirt thing..AIN'T HAPPENING in my band"

NOT SO HOT MOMENTS:

seriously ur gonna invite just celebs on the stage and not ur true fans? tho seeing alicia keys on stage was a nice treat

seriously ur gonna play disco heat but not dance 4 me or even the dance electric? ur gonna play that shit? wow!!

what happend 2 the days of prince having his band members have a spot light and say their names through the course of the show?

and the rest of the setlist ..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz damn is this the same prince that i grew up with?

BONUS MOMENTS

meeting up with banks ..yo bro 4 blocks down ..u should have said 4 blocks across as well lol

estelle81 ..finally!!! hug

bbq's!!! damn i want some wings now lol

meeting up at the apollo afterwards seeing pri, newpowersoul

and last but not least ..seeing my girl npggirl77!! Mwah!! get home safe hun!!

what i take from this experinece is the joy of seeing old friends and meeting new ones, but prince seriously ..u need 2 step up ur game again son and go back 2 the prince that belived in the new music and took it by the horses mane and rode it and didn't give a shit what anyone else thinks about it

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I was at the afterparty. He didn't perform at all. Larry did a song or two with the band that was already on stage and at one point P came up to the stage to check out the handwork of the bass player. The band that was performing did Erotic City. That was ?uest that tweeted that, it's funny,he was standing right next to me when I saw him pull out his blackberry! LOL! It was awkward considering Larry and P are both JW's now.... Has P even performed that song in the past few years?

I was at VU also and was around all the celebs, they were stage right. I was standing behind the drummer and AJ from 106 and Park (I'm older so that's all I know him from...), P and Bria, Larry G, Spike Lee and his wife, Sinbad (who was nice enuff to let me in with him when they weren't letting anyone else in at the door...), Cornell West, Tavis, ?uest and I'm sure some other ppl as well. I didnt' wanna stare, those were just the folks I saw right off when I came in.

PACKED in there!

Prince esta muerto...
