THE DUBLIN CONCERT FIASCO ....ANSWERS

so the dublin concert has been cancelled with less than a weeks notice with around 55.000 tickets sold....rumours were abound for weeks that this concert was never going to happen so the fans who have spend and lost a lot of money deserve some answers.....
.
.
WHAT WAS THE REAL REASON FOR THE CANCELLATION ?
.
WHY DID SOME PEOPLE KNOW THIS CONCERT WASNT GOING TO HAPPEN WEEKS AGO ?
.
WHY WAS THIS CONCERT A ONE OFF GIG ?
.
DID PRINCE EVER ACTUALLY SIGN UP FOR THIS GIG ?
.
IF NOT..WHY LET IT CONTINUE TO BE ADVERTISED ?
.
i am sure there are lots of other questions the people who have lost money would like to ask but i would like these to be answered.....

How it went:

Prince:

You want me to play Dublin? Sure, I'll play Dublin. But you have to sell XX,XXX tickets and/or guarantee me $,$$$,$$$.

Drop dead date for all that to happen is June 6, 2008.

Promoters (on June 6):

Gee, Prince - we weren't able to sell the tickets...and we can't come up with any additional money. Can't we work something out?

Prince:

Sorry - a deal's a deal. See ya.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Why don't you guys write to the promoters for answers. Not that they'll give it but if they receive a huge mountain of complaints maybe they will answer. You never know.

I dont know who to laugh at first!

ecnirp or colm!!! lol lol lol lol lol

Princes new facebook page said he was going to europe and then on sunday said he was taking much needed time out!

yeah i thought at first it wasnt him, but now im not sure! too uncanny not to be true eh?

I would also like to know who told HQ that it would prob be cancelled, or were they talking out of their arses and events appear to prove them right.

If they did know from Princes camp then why would they tell them? and why did HQ not say it was defo for real?

I seriously still doubt anyone intended to cancel this from April. I think its poor sales, 55k out of a potential 80k is shite!

as i said before, i dont understand why he agreed to croke and then didnt advertise throughout europe - silly man!

Is there not some sort of consumer watch body that can be contacted with this fiasco. I wold not be surprised if someone made a lot of money out of this knowing full well that the gig was never going to go ahead.

Did Prince himself ever achknowledge that this concert was going to go ahead???

I guess its a legal scam on mcd's part. i say legal loosely in the sense that they have worked in the normal way but have knowingly with held information perhaps in the blind hope it would be resolved but knowing that they were covered legally and would not be held accountable when it went pear shaped.

The sad thing is the only people to actually really lose apart from the fans, is princes lot as they have loss of face and potential fans etc no-one cares about faceless mcd and will happily shell out when their next fave band comes to town, all of this forgotten.

I think this should be emailed to the BBC and other news desks to inform them of the fiasco.

I think its clear cut Prince's fault. Did he sign a contract with MCD or not? Either way, its Princes fault.

Contract = Play the show

No contract = Tell us he has yet to commit to this.

The trouble is there is no communication from him, so we dont know if he commited or not.

Surely he will realise he needs a site or to start issuing PR to the media for events like this.

I have e-mailed MCD.ie and asked for an explanation as to why the concert was cancelled and why it was cancelled at such short notice. I have implied that their is speculation that they had a huge part to play in the late cancellation due to the lack of secure contrcats in place.
I have said that if I do not receive a satisfcatory response, I will be taking the matter further - don't know where as yet - but it's worth a try.

Will keep you posted
so, what is the answer 2 the question of U

I doubt anything was signed.

these things usually work...

So if he didn't sign, then its highly unlikely that could have had a gagging order on him.

He could have mentioned at any point over the last three months that this concert is not confirmed.

this is such a big mess. i would love to know why, straight from prince. if it is not his fault, then why is he taking the blame? unless there are legal issues to be resolved.

somebody has made money though, from the interest from our ticket money sitting in a bank acount somewhere for the last month or two.

i am disappointed, but i realise that worse things can happen. i am not out of pocket, but there are many who are re flights etc.

i just want to know what really happened, cause i don't want to have negative feelings towards prince.

Actually, there usually IS a "gagging order" when these things are verbally
agreed in principle, but not yet signed.

Besides, you'll notice that Prince never officially confirmed that he was
ever playing in the first place.

It is a very interesting insight into how those deals usually take shape. But somehow I would expect Prince to be wiser than that. He has been in the industry for so long, he knows how to play the game, he was the first to bring the music directly to his fans through the NPGMC - I would expect him to act by the same standards when it comes to touring, him striving for as much control of the situation as possible...!?

Yes, unfortunately there's really no choice in the matter. You either play by
their rules or you don't play at all.

Or you create a new game and set your own rules - that's what he did with NPGMC, that's what he does when he hands out his CDs for free. He should do something similar with the concerts... He would gain so much respect and credit, he would connect with the fans on a whole new level, and he would once again rock the f-ing commercial industry that always lies behind the great artists!

I want to see him in shape again!!! Not as some money-speculating machine... I hope this is not happening confused

That thread at HQ is not to trust if u ask me. But then again, who do? haha

Sure he or his management now can give some sort of a statement without leagal action from any part. They can at least give us a word from Prince´s office that they are sorry and there are reasons that can not be given at the time being. Then we can beleave it, instead of a few lines from MCD only. Prince himself choose to be a pro artist and seeks promotion and ways to earn his money. He himself choose to be in showbiz. That commits a proff public relation-office too and distribution of information to his "customers".
If he had a good staff, they would have done something by now to protect his name and reputation. And if it is not so and he just don´t care about this situation, then he will loose respect and integrity big time.
