I certainly wont be trekking all the way to Las Vegas and pay a hefty price to see him. I love Prince very much, but this Vegas thing does not sound appealing to me.

Actually it doesn't matter what any of us thinks about this whole thing. He's going to do what he wants and if you can go to Vegas and want to go, then go see the show. So we may as well get used to it, he's making it so that we can get to see him. I think it's a good idea just in case he doesn't tour in certain areas of the US. Those abroad can get to see him as well in Vegas, especially since there's no guarantee he'll go to Europe for a tour.

Is anyone else a little sad about Prince playing Las Vegas - I mean look at it. Elvis, rock god ( if you like that kind of thing which I don't ) got old, got fat, played in Vegas, died. Sinatra, Dean Martin, and hosts of other artist that seem to be heading on downward spiral. Vegas is NOT the big showbiz mecca. It is the biggest sideshow in the world full of freaks and people paying large sums of money to see them. Dance for me 'Butterscotch' boy!
Prince... Dude... Please, you want to keep your music fresh, new, where it matters, stay out of Vegas and get into the Clubs and small venues. I hate to use the phrase as I think a/ its naff and b/ its very overused. But please ' keep it real. You are to cool for Vegas. leave the spangley suits at home pick up your guitar and a few well chosen musicans and play.

I just saw an interesting report about Sinatra and his involvement in the mafiosi, Lucky Luciano etc...
The whole Las Vegas thing was build on bloody mafia money and Sinatra was the moneymaker for the 'cosa nostra' in Las Vegas... In a way that was a pretty cool story...does this in a way fit in Prince's life...something we don't ...know ?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't give a hell were he is if he is going to be somewhere on a regular basis it will make it easier for us to see him. Because we all know that actual tours are very few and far between. So just start saving your pennies. DIRTYMIND

P would get whacked uh, I mean, they would probably discuss his social involvement with blond showgirls. The Sammy Davis/Kim Novak clause in his contract. Ehhh, I dunno. I think maybe with this post I am finally handing in my "princefagg/asskisser" medal and wildsign. I was hoping that P would totally change direction, get a different sounding band, get raw, exciting and arrogant again within the next few years or so. But a Vegas "stint" worries me... Is he just cashing in before checking out?
I hope not. | |

This problem you guys have with Prince doing Vegas makes absolutely no sense to me. What is wrong with Las Vegas? Isnt there just a place, after all? He can play exactaly the same way being there or inMontreal, or in Rome, or in Cape Town.
What is the problem? I cant see any logic in this rejection, explain to me please. Thanks..

Why judge Prince at all, and why in the manner of him performing in Vegas? Because people that have no sense (or knowledge) of history have decided that it is cheesy, so 2 speak, 2 play the Vegas circuit...
They either have no knowledge or interest in the story of Vegas, and some of the great musical events that have occurred there... Like 1966 at The Sands, with Sinatra with the Count Basie orchestra, conducted by a young Quincy Jones... With what Prince has given us, in terms of live performance, U should not be thinking that Prince is "selling out" by playing Vegas. He will play anywhere he wants 2. Even though Vegas isn't what it used 2 be, it doesn't mean that U should compare Prince 2 what it is today. He has a deep sense of history, and U should realize that he will never "sell out". Peace. The Stones are still playing a world tour, and Prince, who is younger at 48 than Jagger was at 28 or Richards I suspect ever was, is relegating himself to old fart territory? If he continues doing proper tours and playing for the fans that, ya know, gave a shit about him when everybody else was laughing at his skinny ass, then I guess it's cool. But if he doesn't? Meh. Vegas'll be a money-maker, no question. But speaking as a fan the whole idea of our Brat playing in a lounge is so terribly depressing. Maybe I'm just bitter because I still haven't gotten a chance to see Prince live, I dunno. Dang, you are being so negative about this when we don't even know the facts yet. The club in the Rio is hardly a 'lounge', have you ever been there? Prince booking acts and playing sometimes doesn't mean he's not going to tour. So why shouldn't we be able to go see him somewhere until the reported tour starts? Hell, I'm all for it! It'll be cool to see him in a more intimate venue rather than a big arena. Unless you're underage, you'll now have a chance to see him, instead of waiting to see if he tours somewhere near you. Why don't you wait and see what happens before you start popping the Prozac for the terribly depressing ideas you have... Yep. I'm going to travel across the continent and into another country to a city I never had that much interest in seeing in the first place so I can listen to Prince play at being Elvis: the Later Years, instead of waiting to see if he heads back up this way again. You don't see a flaw in that plan? I don't have a problem with a small show. I'd love one! Hell, I'd love any show. But a small show in Vegas, home of the tiger stunts and goofy gamblers and Celine Dion? I think I'll pass, thanks. You can keep Celine, btw. We don't want her back. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

How about you wait to bitch until something has even been officially announced or a show or two has been played? Then, maybe that would be the time to decide if you want to make the trip or not. I don't have a problem with a small show. I'd love one! Hell, I'd love any show. But a small show in Vegas, home of the tiger stunts and goofy gamblers and Celine Dion? I think I'll pass, thanks. Ok, now that's just plain fucked up and mean. You guys birth the bitch, but we gotta keep her?

Take it easy man...relax a little... Hes done it before has he not. oh and another phrase I hate to see used is "Whats up with that?" only used in american films my friend. Maybe next time you use it you could write " DAT" instead of "that". And I like to think that maybe the old boy does log on and take a read sometime... you obviously think different. have a good day

What is the problem? I cant see any logic in this rejection, explain to me please. Thanks.. The problem people have with Vegas is it's stigma. Yes, he can play the same way (funky) anywhere and yes, Vegas is a place, but it has certain connotations which is what people don't like. Vegas: gambling, neon lights, strippers, all you can eat buffet, Wayne Newton, Celine, Siegfried & Roy, fat Elvis, Montreal: hmm, let's see, I know it's in Canada; a lot of movies are shot their b/c it looks "american"? It's clean? Rome: ancient history, the seat of an entire empire, the Colosseum, architecture, culture, great food, The Sistine Chapel (although that's technically in the Vatican) Cape Town: I've heard it's beautiful and that South African wines are worth checking out. If Vegas is just a place, and they're all just places then why doesn't he set up camp in Sioux City, Iowa? It's not just about the physical location. Hope that helps clarify a bit.

Knowing P he'll find a way to get more musical freedom out of it. How?
Most people I guess play Vegas to play their hits (Or when they run out of hits.) By P not having to take the same production setup on the road he doesn't have to do one set show. This is just me going off into expansive land but one night P could do songs from his early era or he can have acoustic night or a jazzy show. He could treat each show according to his moods. The marketing behind it would be for people to "Come experience the musicianship and artistry of Prince". Like seeing a modern day Mozart in concert. Of course the blue haired ladies from Wyoming will want to hear "Kiss" and Purple Rain". As long as he doesn't return Tom Jones a favor and cover "Delilah". (Although P could kick "What's New Pussycat.")
