Bubble Tea!

Has anyone ever had this stuff? I love it and have only had it twice. I think it can be made in a vareity of ways but the basic thing of it is that it has these gel bubbles in there that you suck through a straw. It's like candy and a drink. I think this might be big in Japan. It's very cool and I highly recommend that if you're ever in Ann Arbor, you check out Bubble Island. It can be a bit pricey though but it beats Starbucks.

Great bubble tea in China Town. Get the good stuff on Mott Street.

South Unversity Street. It's called Bubble Island. Check it out. I was also on, I think East Liberity (I think it's right across from the Michigan Theather) which has a Chinese place that also has bubble tea but I'm not sure if it's the same as Bubble Island, which has all kinds of bubbles teas, flavors, etc.

It's actually tapioca, if I remember correctly.

Giant balls of tapioca in a flavored tea, served cold.

Pretty yummy!!!!

I've had it at a tea place in Flatirons.

Bubble drinks are usually cool, refreshing, and a sweet drink with tapioca pearls sitting on the bottom of a clear cup. Sometimes the drink is made with fresh fruits, milk, and crushed ice to create a healthy milk shake. You can also find drinks that are made of powdered flavoring, creamer, water, and crushed ice. And if you like it like the Asians do, the cool drink usually includes a healthy tea, infused by a flavoring.

Tapioca pearls are black, but can sometimes be found to be white or transparent. Depending on the ingredients of the pearl, the color varies. I've been told that the white and translucent pearls are made of caramel, starch and chamomile root extract. The black pearl includes sweet potato, cassava root and brown sugar, which add the black color.

I've been drinking this stuff for years - since high school. There are three places within 15 minutes of my house that sell them. My favorite is the green apple snowball...

This is the first I've ever heard "Bubble Tea" I always heard Boba and tapioca.

Bubble tea is also known as boba drink, pearl tea drink, boba ice tea, boba, boba nai cha, zhen zhou nai cha, pearl milk tea, pearl ice tea, black pearl tea, tapioca ball drink, BBT, PT, pearl shake, QQ (which means chewy in Chinese) and possible many others.

I've been trying to get up the nerve to try bubble tea. I can't even stand pulp in my orange juice, but it's so freakin' odd that I've just got to try it.

You can get it without the tapioca. The tea itself is amazing. I hate pulp as well, and the tapioca balls can take some definite getting used to.

I'm telling you, you're missing out on a beautiful thing! the tapioca balls are definitely NOT essential, so try it without 'em!

Alright, maybe next time I go to the little Vietnamese place I get my spicy tofu and broccoli from once a month I will get some bubble tea sans bubbles. It does look rather refreshing. biggrin
