Why do bad things happen to good people?

And then why do they die so young? It's not fair. I just found out a girl I knew got hit by a car while riding her bike and she died. She was 29, an artist, a musician, on her way to grad school and just a genuine person all around. I wasn't close to her, just knew her through my boyfriend at the time. She was a sweetie and would make you feel 10 times better just talking with her.

Seems like all the good people are dying. I don't understand it.

Why don't child molesters get hit by cars instead?

Why don't dead beat dads get cancer in their 40's instead of loving fathers?

It just sucks that things happen this way. I just hope that if we go somewhere after we die that it's better than the life we had on earth. Then maybe I'll understand. But I guess I won't know till I die.

I guess perhaps that to some extent it's because some people/groups like to spread their suffering. You can't just get rid of it. People who seek out others just to implicate them in their suffering are actually suffering twice over: firsr from whatever's really eating away at their soul, and second from the delusion that implicating others will aleviate their problems.

The most gruesome examples of this are provided by groups like child molesters as you suggest Carrie. Such inhabit a hellish world in which they yearn to hurt others, and eventually die themselves. They callously inflict pain and suffering on their victims, and lifelong painful memories on the friends and families of their victims. Some of them appear unable to experience other people as human-perhaps because they do not experience themselves as human either-look at September 11th for example. The same can be said of anyone who premeditatedly spreads such suffering in the world. There is enough of it already, through natural causes and normal life struggles alone. As the title of your thread asks Carrie, Why do bad things happen to good people?', well maybe it's to some extent due to people spreading their suffering making life harder and more fucked up than it needs to be.

People who follow this harmful path do not endure, and neither do their evil works. Now without wishing to sound too much like George W.(!!!), whether they act alone or bend the resources of entire nations to their harmful wills, they find neither refuge nor safe harbor in this world. They are hunted, harried, and reviled, and eventually meet the doom they have decreed for themselves. They can spread their suffering to others for a time, but not for long. They can neither make the whole world suffer nor compel the world to tolerate their hell.

I guess that's why I appreciate things like the Org because I think deep down, we are all good people here. I love the humour, tenderness when people get down, what makes people tick and of cause we all have something in common. So although you don't know me personally Carrie, I do genuinly care about what you're saying as I'm sure everyone does here.

Life isn't fair. One of my boyfriend's ex-girlfriend who was about 28 years old and just had a baby with her new husband suddenly died when she had a brain anurism (sorry, I don't know how to spell that last word)... I cried even if I never saw or met her, its so sad.
