May 14, 2004 to September 30, 2004 What made beer brewing so popular in Brooklyn in the late 19th century? How do Brooklyn’s microbreweries flourish today? In a new exhibition through September 2004, "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall: Beer Brewing in Brooklyn", discover how immigrants in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick turned Brooklyn into the beer brewing capital of the world, with 48 breweries by 1898. Illustrated with over 100 historic bottles of beer, advertisements, maps, business records, photographs, and oral histories, 100 Bottles of Beer will captivate anyone who enjoys a cold beer on a hot summer day and those interested in the techniques used to create today’s flavorful brews. Admission: $6 adults/$4 students. Hours: Wed., Thurs., Sat. 10-5; Fri, 10-8; Sun, 12-5. For information, call 718-222- 4111. Location Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street (Clinton and Pierrepont Sts.), Brooklyn Heights Travel Directions Subway: R, 4, 5, 2, 3 to Court Street/Borough Hall | |
