A Word to the Wise Regarding Ordering Something From a TV Ad.......

I recently made the mistake of ordering an item from a TV commercial that interested me. I called the number on the screen and charged it on my credit card. A few weeks later, I received the item in the mail, no problem.

Today, however, when I got my credit card bill, I noticed two charges on there that I did not recognize. I got pissed and called both numbers on my credit card, and told the person that I spoke to that I did not understand how these charges got on my credit card. Turns out that because I had ordered the item from the TV commercial, these "subscriptions" were added to my charge without my consent or knowledge. I can't remember offhand if they asked me if I was interested in receiving these "subscriptions" when I ordered this item, but I know for a fact that if I was asked about it, I clearly had told them no, I was not interested. The one person I spoke to even had the nerve to ask me if I was interested in another "subscription", even after I got through explaining to her what happened and that I was not interested. I felt like saying, "What part of no don't you understand?" I interrupted before she could get very far in her spiel and I told her, "I'm not interested. I never ordered this "subscription", and if it is not taken off my credit card today, I am reporting you to the Better Business Bureau, which I do not wish to do. All I want is to have this charge removed."

The charges got removed, but I'm still not very happy about it. I'm still going to report it to the Better Business Bureau, because this, to me, is a scam, and it should not be tolerated. If they did this to me, they probably have done it to other people as well.

Bottom line: Be careful when orderering anything off these TV ads, they may try to do the same to you. Word to the wise.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

that stinks, Psycho! i'm glad you're reporting it to the BBB!

it pisses me off that so often, senior citizens are targeted by these scams, and they often don't notice any irregularities on their credit card bills, or are afraid to speak up. disbelief

UptownDeb

Someone called me at work the other day to inform me that my name was chosen to be entered in a sweepstake where the grand prize was $50,000. I was also told that I was going to be sent a diamond watch (A watch! Whoo-hoo!). Then the telemarketer starts asking me about the books I like to read.... To make it short. I was going to be sent 3 subscriptions to magazines that related to my interests. All I had to do was subscribe to 1!

There was a time that I might've said "Okay" but I immediately, said "Thanks but no thanks!" The telemarketer said and abrupt "thank you for your time" or whatever and hung up.

I doubt I'm getting that watch now. confused
