You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The new Spider-Man trailer looks great. Green Goblin and Doc Ock returning from the real Spider-Man movies is a stroke of genius. Fingers crossed that the rumours of Tobey Maguire returning also comes true.

Not feeling Eternals, really looking forward to Spider-man for Alfred Molina alone.

Waiting on Black Panther 2(possibility we'll see Namor?) and Fantastic Four. Other than that, I'm lukewarm on Phase 4.

I agree with you on The Eternals. I don't really know anything about them though so maybe that's the reason I'm not really feeling any hype for it. The trailer looks like it might be ok. There's nothing in it that suggests it will be particularly bad, at least. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I'm very interested to see how they handle Black Panther 2. Chadwick Boseman is literally irreplaceable so they're going to have to do something spectacular for it to work. The MCUs "new Iron Man", Ironheart, is going to debut in it though so that might give us a clue as to the direction they're going.

Every Fantastic Four movie up to this point has been absolutely awful so Marvel Studios version has to be an improvement. So it has that going for it.

Phase 4 has already gotten off to a great start as far as I'm concerned. Wandavision and Loki were great. Falcon & The Winter Soldier was fun too and did a good job of setting up Captain America 4. I haven't seen Shang Chi yet but a couple of friends of mine have and all agree that it's a very good movie. I was already personally looking forward to it just because Tony Leung is in it.
The Eternals doesn't excite me but Thor 4, Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 are all movies I'm really looking forward to. Then there's the new shows coming to Disney Plus. So yeah, a lot to look forward to for me.

Me 3. A real side story if there ever was one. Feels more like a TV series.

It's impossible to tell until the movie is actually out but that's the impression I get as well. It doesn't look like it connects to the wider MCU and if it doesn't, then what's the point?

I wasn't into Eternals comics that much...I do know they, the Deviants, mutants and superhumans are the results of genetic experiments done by the Celestials on early humans. Thanos is an Eternal who carries the Deviant gene.

Spiderman looks great. I wasnt too sure how I'd feel with them crossing over characters from the old movies. But it looks all good so far. I guess it will be cool to see if Toby returns. Wonder if well see more variants of Spiderman? Maybe the possibility of a venom reference, though I didnt care much for the venom movie.

I was totally not feeling the Eternals. The first few trailers did not peak my intrest. I'm my mind I kept thinking "Will this movie be a flop?" lol but this new trailer does give me hope.

I've never read any comics so I've never heard of The Eternals or any of that stuff. I'm willing to give the movie a chance because I'd never heard of half the MCU characters until I seen the movies and they haven't let me down yet.

I think this could very well flop. It will make a tidy sum, I'm sure, but by their usual standards, it may be considered a flop. Pretty decent cast though and an Oscar winning director. It could go either way.

It might be awhile before movies make what they were before Covid. A lot of theaters are still closed, some permanently. There's also the case that WB & Disney have released their 2021 movies in theaters & streaming channels at the same time. Disney+ has an extra $30 fee though, which is actually cheaper for families & groups. Spider-Man is Sony and they don't have a streaming service, it's only going to play in theaters first. Shang-Chi is also supposed to be theaters first. I think the highest grossing Hollywood movie this year is F9, but it got a China release. China has the biggest box office after the US. China only takes a certain amount of movies a year that are not locally made there.

Well eventually they would of had to replace him, look how many Spidermans and Batmans we had. We will never know if Chadwick Boseman would want to be in Black Panther parts 6, 7 and so on.

Box Office: Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi’ Crushes Labor Day Weekend Records With $94 Million
by Rebecca Rubin | September 6, 2021 | Variety
SBT-13336.jpg?w=681&h=383&crop=1

Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” capped off Labor Day weekend at the box office with a bang. The superhero action adventure, starring Canadian actor Simu Liu, had an even bigger debut than expected, collecting $94.4 million in its first four days of release and setting a new high watermark for the holiday weekend.

Disney on Sunday had projected that “Shang-Chi” would finish the extended weekend with $90 million from 4,300 theaters, but the film sold more tickets than anticipated on Monday, boosting its overall tally to just shy of the $100 million mark. In normal times, that wouldn’t be much of a feat for an installment in the commercially beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe. But during the pandemic, it’s on track to become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.

Since Labor Day is traditionally a slow weekend at the box office, the film’s three day total of $75.5 million blew past previous the record set by 2007’s “Halloween” and its $30.6 million start. Despite concerns the delta variant would keep audiences at home, “Shang-Chi” notched the second-biggest opening weekend of the pandemic, behind only “Black Widow” with $80 million. Impressively, it ranked ahead of Universal’s “Fast & Furious” sequel “F9” ($70 million) and Paramount’s “A Quiet Place Part II” ($48 million), both of which opened earlier in summer at time when COVID-19 looked like it might eventually abate.

At the international box office, “Shang-Chi” amassed $56.2 million in key markets such as France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan. The film doesn’t have a release date in China, which is an important territory for Marvel movies. Globally, “Shang-Chi” has made $146.2 million so far.

“‘Black Widow’ showed what a Marvel movie can do in pandemic conditions, and that release had the additional burden of a streaming option,” says David A. Gross. “For Marvel, ‘Shang-Chi’ is a creative departure, and at a cost of over $150 million, the results are very good.”

Unlike “Black Widow,” which debuted simultaneously on Disney Plus, “Shang-Chi” is playing only in theaters for its first 45 days of release before it lands on-demand. Disney CEO Bob Chapek called its theatrical-only release an “interesting experiment” and indicated its ticket sales would influence plans for future releases, such as “Eternals,” which is scheduled for Nov. 5.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “Shang-Chi” takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” and centers on a skilled martial artist who is forced to confront his past when he is targeted by the covert Ten Rings organization. In a landmark moment for representation, it’s the first installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest film franchise, to feature an Asian star and predominately Asian cast. Moviegoers and critics were impressed with the final product; it has a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.

Last weekend’s champ, Universal’s thriller “Candyman,” slid to second place, collecting $10.5 million over the weekend and an impressive $13 million through Monday. The horror film, which is playing only in theaters, has made $41 million to date, a strong result given its $25 million production budget.

Affleck's is the closest to Frank Miller's 'Dark Knight Returns', which to me, is THE definitive Batman. Frank Miller (and later John Byrne) made the character great again.

If you go before the 1970s, they were all in westerns. razz Starting in the 1920 singing cowboy era, there were way more westerns in the movies and later on TV than there are superhero movies today. Gunsmoke was the longest running primetime show until The Simpsons & SVU. There were a lot of musicals too.

1920, huh? Gunsmoke makes me sad these days. My Uncle's favorite. I guess whatever the fad is. This time around it's a bit more international just a smidge, I'm just not sure what to call it. I just cut it shorthand to Hollywood.
