Cat Vasko to Pen Female-Centric Plastic Man Movie
by Borys Kit | December 04, 2020 | The Hollywood Reporter

Black List writer Cat Vasko has been hired to work on a feature centered on DC Comics hero Plastic Man.

The project got underway two years ago when Amanda Idoko (The Mayor) was hired to pen the script for what was meant to be a comedic action-adventure based on the character, who was created in 1940s.

Vasko’s hiring, however, is meant to take the project in a new direction entirely. Sources tell THR that the project, which is in the earliest stages of development, will now be a female-led vehicle. It is unclear if that means a title change or not.

Plastic Man wasn’t initially a DC character, having been created by Jack Cole for Quality Comics in 1941. When Quality went under in 1956, DC bought many of the characters, Plastic Man among them.

The hero’s true identity is Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, a crook turned good guy. During a botched heist, O'Brian is shot and — wouldn’t you know it — also doused with a mysterious chemical. Left for dead by his gang, he awakens to find himself imbued with the power to shape-shift and stretch his body into almost anything. O’Brian eventually reforms and becomes a police officer.

The character has a certain cult status among the comics crowd. He was a member of the Justice League for a time and even had his own cartoon series.

DC-based film production president Walter Hamada and Chantal Nong are overseeing for the studio.

Vasko has made a name for herself writing strong female stories. She is known for adapting Queen of the Air, the story of trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel that has Margot Robbie attached to star, and reteamed with the actress for an adaptation of Gin Phillips' novel Fierce Kingdom. She also worked on an adaptation of Boom! comic Lumberjanes when it was set up at Fox (the project is now being developed as an animated series at HBO Max).

Most recently, she set up an untitled fairy tale project at Disney+ with Olivia Cooke and LaKeith Stanfield attached to star that is said to turn the classic princess story on its head and offer up a modern take.

Vasko is repped by Grandview and Hansen Jacobson.

What If..? is one of my favorite Marvel comics. Any more details on that?

Also interested in that Plastic Man feature, I enjoyed the way they used that character on TV's The Flash.

Avengers: Endgame didn't make over 2 billion dollars from only dudes going to see it. razz Video games are popular with women & girls too. There's women who write and/or draw for comic books & graphic novels.

'Spider-Man 3': Alfred Molina Returning as Doctor Octopus

December 08, 2020 • by Aaron Couch, Borys Kit • The Hollywood Reporter.
Alfred Molina (doctor octopus) in 2004's Spider-Man 2
Alfred Molina is putting the metal arms back on to reprise his role as the villainous Doctor Octopus, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Molina turned in a fan-favorite performance in Sam Raimi's 2004 sequel Spider-Man 2 as Otto Octavius, a brilliant scientist turned eight-limbed villain who pushed Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man to the limits. Molina's involvement in the upcoming Spider-Man movie was first rumored late last month, when GWW reported the actor had been spotted on set.

Tom Holland stars in the film, which Sony has dated for Dec. 17, 2021, which has Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts back at the helm. Benedict Cumberbatch will appear in the film as Doctor Strange, while Spider-Man mainstays expected to return include Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori.

Molina's involvement ties together three generations of Spider-Man movies. Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro after playing the role in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Andrew Garfield as the wall crawler, while Molina's Doc Ock terrorized Maguire's version of Spidey. In October, Foxx suggested in a since-deleted Instagram post that three different Spider-Men could appear in the film.

Marvel and Sony had no comment.

2019's Far From Home, which amid the COVID-pandemic release date shuffles stands as the most recent Marvel Studios film, earned more than $1 billion globally and has swung to the top of the ladder as highest-grossing Spider-Man movie of all time.

Molina, who earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for 2017's Feud: Bette and Joan, starred in Frozen II last year and has Netflix and DreamWorks' Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans due out next year.

Sounds 100% horrible. Here's a thought why not have this "Director" make a Black Canary movie or Zatanna, Vixen, Crimson Fox, Gypsy, Fire & Ice or even Big Barda instead.

Yeah I think your right but I'm sure they did a horrible job in portraying her. She deserves a movie all her own.
