R.I.P Sci-Fi Actors

Well many of the Sci-Fi actors I grew up watching as a kid have all been passing away these past 8 years or so. Granted many of these actors got to live up until there 70's and 80's, still it's sad to hear because many of them are from my parents generation, and I too lost both parents and my Aunties and Uncles these past few years. If I missed someone who passed away in the last 8 years feel free to mention them. So with that said I just want to thank all of you fine actors/actresses and that you all live on in my DVD collections.

YW! I've been keeping up with TOS actors. I grew up on this series. During this lockdown I've rewatched all 3 seasons twice. thumbs up! I believe only Shatner (Cap. Kirk), George Takei (Sulu), Walter Koenig (Chekhov), and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) are still with us. Spock's death broke my heart. sad

I remember Persis Khambatta's death in 1998 at only 49 too. She was just too young. I loved her in Star Trek: TMP

Another creepy thing is the cast of Alien. The first person to die in the movie and in real life was John Hurt. The 2nd person to die in the movie and in real life was Harry Dean Stanton

Actor Ian Holm, Who Played King Lear To Bilbo Baggins, Has Died

June 19, 202011:55 AM ET

Veteran British actor Ian Holm has died at age 88. He was beloved by audiences as Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Chariots of Fire, and first reached wide audiences in Alien. His death on Friday was related to Parkinson's disease, his agent, Alex Irwin, told NPR.

Ian Holm could play everyone from King Lear to an android to a hobbit. He told NPR's All Things Considered in 2002 that he was less interested in fame than in being a good actor.

"It's obviously much better than being a quote-unquote movie star," he remarked, "because I think I would find walking down a street and having people scream at you or shouting at you or clapping you on the back or whatever would be intolerable."

Born outside London in 1931, Ian Holm joined the Royal Shakespeare Company when it was founded three decades later, and was celebrated for his stage work. His portrayal of Lenny in the premiere production of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming won him a Tony Award after its transfer from the West End to Broadway. But he suffered a severe case of stage fright in 1976, during a performance of The Iceman Cometh, and largely turned to movie and television work afterwards. He didn't return to theater for almost two decades.

Then in his mid-40s, he became known to film audiences, beginning with his role in Alien as the android Ash. From then on, he often alternated between appearing in big Hollywood box office hits and more offbeat films, including Terry Gilliam's Brazil and Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter.

Along with his Oscar nomination, his role as the athletics coach Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire earned him a special award at the Cannes Film Festival and a BAFTA prize.

He was appointed CBE in 1997, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II a year later.

Haha hated him as well until Fifth Element. He was so sweet and charming as the priest. Then of course his turn as Bilbo came along and I fell in love with his acting. Too bad he didn't return for The Hobbit.

He played Ash? I totally didn't recognize him as Bilbo and other roles... RIP rose

Yes...I hated him in that android role in Aliens. Shows how good he was. Sad to hear of his passing. sad I loved him in his LOTR role.

Hey let's not be to hard on Ash. He did open the door and let Kane in and did try to save Kane's life.

Haha hated him as well until Fifth Element. He was so sweet and charming as the priest. Then of course his turn as Bilbo came along and I fell in love with his acting. Too bad he didn't return for The Hobbit.

I adored him in the Fifth Element. heart

Way too young. sad

Lynn Cohen died in 2020 too. She was a great character actor...was in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

I had just heard about Star Trek Continues last year around the holidays. I binge-watched all of them in one weekend.

At first, I thought they'd be horrible. It took my mind an episode or so to "reset" to accept new actors playing the TOS cast, but when it did everything was really outstanding! The acting, the sets, the stories. With a few exceptions, they're on par or better than the originals.

RIP Grant Imahara. I loved you on MythBusters and enjoyed your version of Sulu on STC.

And RIP to everyone else on this list. I just watched Aliens Special Edition over the weekend, and missed Bill Paxton and the Marine Sergeant actor Al Matthews.
