Authorities were searching for actress Naya Rivera Wednesday night after her 4-year-old son was found floating alone on a rented boat in Lake Piru.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Rivera rented the boat at about 1 p.m. About three hours later, another boater found the child in the boat by himself.

The boaters notified officials who immediately began a search for Rivera with the use of helicopters, drones and dive teams.

The child was said to be unharmed and told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother never got back into the boat.

Update: it's now a recovery mission. She is presumed dead.

How random and tragic. A 33-year-old mother just gone like that. Her 4yo son sleeping on the boat when folks found him. Good gracious. Bless her family.

I have no idea who this woman is, but it's sad her little boy was left there by himself. Seems a bit odd to me that they would go swimming and she would leave her flotation device in the boat while with her child. Thank goodness the little boy is safe.

I’m wondering if it’s suicide? Just strange that he only had protection gear. Truly a sad week for sure RIHP. I never watched Glee, but knew of her.

Apparently she talked about depression on her social media, and it’s suspicious that her life jacket was on the boat, so maybe it was intentional. Also glad the kid is ok

Something's off about the whole incident... Why in the world would she take out a child so young in deep water by herself...

Once the report came out about her found son and her missing...... I had a feeling she had already passed over

They say there was no evidence of foul play. it's just so tragic.

People do it all the time. Rule number don't go by yourself swimming or hiking ( go with another able adult)

She did not kill herself. It was accidental drowning

That's what I think too. But others up-thread was mentioning the suicide scenerio, and that's what I was responding to.

At first no one knew what happened, that's why so much speculation and rumors. I had no idea currents could be so strong in lakes. Apparently there have been other drownings there.
