Has anyone studied criminal justice?

I found a certificate program for it and it looks interesting, like something I might take if I feel like going back to school in a few years. Has anyone studied anything similar? And how do you like the field if working in it?

You should pursue a degree if you are interested in the criminal justice field. Good luck with your studies!

Yeah it’s a certificate, less time consuming. I feel like I’m not sure where I’d want to work after, but just want to learn for the sake of it if I get bored after 40

I’m already in social work and sometimes we get clients dealing with the criminal justice system, so want to gain a better understanding from it and for learning

A certificate in criminal justice would be great with social work. Fellow social worker here. I'm leaning towards certification in mental health. We've been seeing more folks with severe mental health issues and it's been years since I've worked in that field. Let me know how it goes, please.

smile sounds good, hope you can do it.
6 months sounds sufficient to get a foot in the door at least.

Cool! I also did a certificate in counselling that included courses about mental health, and worked in that sector for a few years

Will definitely let you know how it is if I take the courses

I worked at a state psychiatric hospital (years ago) but as psych aide. The state was pretty thorough in the training they gave us, lots of policy and procedures, but that wasn't anywhere near what I need as a social worker. Of course, in grad school, I had to take a course on the DSM-IV TR (at that time), as well as different therapeutic theories and practices. This was back in the time of the NPGMC. I had sent one of the PPs a message about EMDR and said I was curious if it would work with music, with a link about the process. And the PP told me they would pass that on. It wasn't long after that when he released Guitar when it flowed back and forth between the channels. lol But shoot, that was back in 2007 when I graduated from Grad school, and I've been working with people with disabilities or the elderly (or hospice) since that time. But the clientele has changed and we're seeing an increase in mental health issues. I'll have to look into the counseling certificate. But criminal justice has always been intriguing to me. Definitely do let me know how it goes and whether it is worth it.

That’s cool you worked in psych, also with the current job I can imagine mental health is prevalent with older patients.
