Booksmart (2019)

As a fan of high school buddy movies and reading some of the reviews, I really wanted to see this movie. It feels like each generation has one of these and I've loved all of them. This movie is now added to the list as it was really good.

Movie has more of a "girl power" theme (needed in this genre) and it tells the story of the smart girls who focused on academics rather than the social aspect of high school. Not familiar with the two lead actresses (Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever) but they were great. Various cameos from other actors helped round out the movie.

Crazy adventures, that time in your life when you were trying to figure everything out, social/romantic relationships and a lot of laughs. When a movie can run you through different emotions where you feel the characters, it has to be a result of the actors, the writing and directing.

The Goldfinch 3/5. I think I liked the look of it more than anything else. I'll have to admit I wasn't emotionally invested until the end reveal which really got to me.

Unfortunately, the movie is below average. The book, is magnificant. It certainly deserved to win the Pulizter. One of my top 10 favourite books. I can't wait for Donna Tartt's next release, but she writes at such a slow pace, it's maddening neutral

Tartt is one of my favorite contemporary writers. But agree, the novel was not adapted well for he screen.

The Nice Guys (2016)

Not even Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe and some decent action scenes can save this one. Goes for gritty and nuanced, but comes off as gratuitous and pretentious.

I love Under The Cherry Moon and Grease 2. That is my response to your statement. lol

It had its moments and a really good cast, but it ain't as good as other movies in that vein.

Just Mercy (2019) - World-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.

Standard albeit well made Hollywood biographical legal drama. I wouldn't rave about it, but the star power here isn't wasted. 3.5/5

Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola starring Jeff Bridges as Preston Tucker. Jeff Bridges just brings so much charisma to the roll that it just makes the movie. Martin Landau is also a standout and Christian Slater looks like he is 12 years old.

There's a few similar movies with the same moral but few do it with this much style while still being really entertaining. Coppola is a master film maker and this movie is just another example. The story is the tale of the big three auto makers using their power to crush an independent car maker.

J.K. Simmons, Andy Samberg, and Cristin Milioti in Palm Springs (2020)

PALM SPRINGS (HULU) - I didn't think it quite lived up to the high praise it has received, but it was fairly enjoyable and different for a romcom. 3 stars out of 5.

Lust, Caution (2007)

"Set in World War II-era Shanghai, this drama follows the complex machinations of a group of actors and resistance fighters whose most beautiful member, the virginal Chia Chi, is tasked with seducing their most dangerous foe, the traitorous Mr. Yee." (Nettflix)

Ang Lee's drama is a good film made really good by the talented Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Hero, 2046). Wei Tang gives a really impressive performance as the central character.

The Devil's Advocate (1997)

This story was well written with master acting by Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino, and Charlize Theron made the movie amazing. Al Pacino as the Devil is just perfect casting and is just another movie to add to his legendary list.

Movie's got depth and I think I'll need to watch it again to pick it all up. Religious symbolism, materialism and the world in general, there's a lot going on but that's why the movie was so good.

High Noon (1952)

Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Katy Jurado and Lloyd Bridges, among others, shine in this morality tale. It earned its spurs as one of the great westerns of all time.
