seems they understand and agree... they just do not agree with how he was treated and on what basis.

I'm aware of that, poppys. I was really just using his post as an excuse to try and broker peace with him (and to trot out my encroaching-heart-disease-and-veneers joke). smile

Speaking of Farrows, Has anyone ever read this?

https://mosesfarrow.blogs...rrow.html

Moses Farrow was there on the day Allen allegedly abused Dylan and said it DID NOT HAPPEN.

INTERESTING READ...

I want to read the Woody memoirs as I am a HUGE fan of his work as a comedian, writer and director. I think Ronan is a talented journalist and I get why he sides with Dylan, she is his sister after all. But their agression seems almost too hieghtened when it comes ot Woody.

"Now I like his movies--except for that nervous fella that's always in them," was one of my favorite Simpsons quotes back in the day.

Solid choices. I'll second the Irrational Man recommendation as well, that double omniscient narrators murder mystery thing was solid.... I really enjoy his later more recent films as much as his classics. Blue Jasmine, Match Point, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, of course Midnight in Paris. All fantastic.

I read Moses' blog when it came out. It sounds logical, particularly the resentment of Mia's adopted children being treated as lesser to her biological children. People focus on what Woody did to Mia in that relationship, but Soon-Yi had to have uh, not been a fan of Mia herself. If one looked for a "why" then Moses seemed to provide a reasonable answer.

That being said, as a huge fan of Woody's films, watching them all there is a consistent running theme of the question of morality, of right vs. wrong and what exactly determines or validates that concept, whether it be the question of a higher power rewarding or punishing action like in Crimes & Misdemeanors or pure luck/chance/happenstance allowing humans to get away with moral transgressions like in Match Point. And there's that recurrent theme of the artist and not questioning the whims of the artist like I remember a spirited Cusack monologue advocating in Bullets Over Broadway. Of course Woody's famous "the heart wants what the heart wants" quote.

But that might be all be advocating a kind of moral fabric where he could toe that line like say marrying Soon Yi, certainly out of the ordinary but I mean, you can kind of argue as people do well, he wasn't "technically" her step father, Andre Previn really blah blah, Woody barely knew her as a child blah blah. You know, that middle ground, towing the line of morality, whereas that Dylan Farrow thing would just be full blown unquestioned evil, which I don't know if I necessary get from the art or any vibe...

That being said, has any one ever seen Wild Man Blues? I really liked that documentary. I'm sure it was just designed to normalize the Woody/Soon Yi relatonship, but man, they got me. This is some borderline Annie Hall quality banter, I found the whole thing was quite charming:

#1 Woody that I haven't seen but is at the top of my list is Everyone Says I Love You. Cool concept, a musical where not everyone is a professional singer, but emphasizing their real voices.... Think the To Rome with Love shower singer. I saw this Goldie Hawn covering Marilyn Monroe scene in a Woody documentary once, this is majestic right here:

To me, Another Woman and perhaps also maybe The Purple Rose of Cairo are his only 100% flawless films. Every scene is essential and dripping with emotion.

He integrated those trademark Bergman-esque devices of reflection before and since, but never more masterfully and tinged with longing than in Another Woman:

My personal fave: Broadway Danny Rose.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.
