Eli on the numbers is not a Hall of Famer. But there are those minor matters of winning two Lombardis, beating an undefeated team to win the first one, and making one of the greatest throws in the history of the sport to win the second one, and winning both against the greatest QB in pro football history* to win both.

*I'd still take Joe Montana, and I know there were some great QBs prior to the Super Bowl Era, but it's hard to argue against TB12 as the GOAT, and Eli beat him twice.

Don't forget the plays Eli made to get to those SBs.....beating Brett Favre in the snow in 2007, and taking a pounding from Aldon Smith and that 49ers defense in 2011.

Brady may have the rings, but he's not the GOAT IMO....I'll take Johnny Unitas (the father of the modern day QB) and Joe Cool ANYDAY. Defenses weren't neutered back then like they are today.

Although I - like all patriotic Americans - generally despise the Stealers, I always put Terry Bradshaw in the mix. He won 4 Super Bowls and called every single play in every game of his career.

This whole GOAT thing is getting out of hand anyway. Just more reductivism from the (mostly millennial) chronic raters. Pretty soon it will be GOAT of the day.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is saying in order to win the game the 49'ers needs to hurt Mahomes and take him out of the game.

What a MF'n pussy.

Thanks for the memories (and championships), Eli. He would have had three titles (sorry Steeler fans) if that idiot Plaxico didn't shoot himself.

Not disagreeing with any of your points. The GOAT talk is always a hot button take. I would take

Montana as the greatest qb of all time. The GOAT or MVP talk should never be limited to just qb's. Why can't Jerry Rice be considered the GOAT? A Walter Payton? A Lawrence Taylor? A Joe Greene?

My thing about Brady is could he have done this in the 80's or from 90-97 considering defenses weren't as restricted as they are now when you could actually pop the hell out of a qb just after he released the football and not get penalized or fined? Let's be real Brady has been the recipient of so many phantom personal foul penalties it is downright embarrassing to the league. Can you imagine Dan Marino playing in the league now? He would assault all passing records. He would probably have multiple 600 yard passing games.

Very, very true. Cowherd made that point. He beat the best Cowboys team since the SB era in 2011 as well. His TD-to-INT ratio was incredible.

Brady benefitted from having Belichick, and being in much better health than Montana. Unitas and Montana played in much more vicious eras too. That hit Leonard Marshall put on Joe in the 1991 NFC title game? TB never had to endure that. Brady's stats and titles make it hard to argue against him, but like you, I'd take Joe 8 days a week.

You're right. But when I say GOAT in this context, I am talking specifically about QBs. The greatest football players of all time are a different story. LT is the greatest football player I have ever watched. He's the closest thing to Michael Jordan pro football has ever seen. He revolutionized the game,

My thing about Brady is could he have done this in the 80's or from 90-97 considering defenses weren't as restricted as they are now when you could actually pop the hell out of a qb just after he released the football and not get penalized or fined? I agree. I'm okay with the rules, but they give TB and his contemporaries a huge advantage. Can you imagine if Joe Montana had these rules with Bill Walsh as his coach for 20 years? Or Marino, who wouldn't have needed the running game he lacked in his prime?

It also helps today's QBs that defenders can't touch WRs like back in the day. The NFL, like the NBA, wants more offense. Jerry Rice & Michael Jordan would tear shit up if they played today.

Except for field goals, NFL did an experiment with the Alliance with no extra point, just two point conversion

That's true. It seems they moved the FG line way back to increase the misses and create more scenarios that call for TDs.

as much as Patrick Mahomes is my favorite non-Minnesota Viking in the NFL, i dont think KC has a chance..the 9ers o-line and d-line are just too good

of course they are...but the 49ers defense looks special...what they did to Cousins & Cook, then Rodgers & Jones was super impressive...and theyve been doing that all year in a rough NFC..AFC had a down year... Patriots, Steelers and Broncos all perennial AFC playoff studs, fell off badly and the great Mahomes & the Chiefs took off...i think the Chiefs are gonna miss Kareem Hunt...people forget how good he was with them
