Which one is better?

Trying to decide to have both or just the one .....................

Here's my take: they're different.

I use Twitter a lot for expressing instant reactions to current events, news items, or noting something else (like Janet's Rhythm Nation turning 30, where I scheduled a year's tweets on dates relevant to single releases, etc.). I often look at the tpo 20 trending items to see what's going on. It's not my main news source, but it's quick to trend a person's name or whatever if something has happened and everyone is talking about it. I try to follow people who will give me good content, whether social issues, news, or the random entertainer I enjoy.

I use Instagram, for photos, obviously - uploading, searching house inspiration for my Pinterest boards (saving ideas and mapping out rooms etc), and maaaaybe looking at a hot guy or two. I love scrolling through the Explore section, just to see what it's showing me. The more you view particular photos, the more it'll find those types of photos in the Explore next time.

I don't lock either down to private. It's out there, public; it is what it is. I don't use Instagram for talking about white supremacy in North America, nor do I use Twitter to post a lot of photos.

As a note to all that: I found a Chrome plug-in that lets you scrub your Facebook (which owns Instagram, by the way), albeit it a month at a time, which means I had about 11 or 12 years of entries that I had it erase, a month at a time. But worth it after a couple of weeks of work, at most, (just finding the moments to do a month or two at a time). So I don't use FB much to post anymore. I have only 101 friends on there (the most recent is a gay bathhouse in the area LOL), and I'm fine with that. No one with 2000 friends no FB is reading everyone's bullshit.

Having just Twitter & Instagram is a nice balance.

Twitter is like a general-what's-happening-on-the-internet quick scan.

Instagram I use for visual and education inspiration and I try to keep who I follow limited into these two categories.

Social media can quickly become another source of entertainment so I've tried to keep the perspective of using it more as a tool.

Sometimes it's just me who's a tool but I'm working on getting better.

I don't use either one. They're just time-wasters.

I prefer to waste my time the old-fashioned way, here on the Org!

Not a fan of the general 'vibe' of Twitter now; it's just so polarised, politically.

Whereas Instagram has the kind of offbeat, relaxed feel for the most part (a quirky place for artist and writer types) that I used to associate Twitter with, but you need to have the visual material to share in the first place to be able to post there.

Yeah but you have to pay for web design and maintenance/protection and no guarantee of just random traffic. You can go on Instagram looking for one person and randomly end up passing through a few people you never heard of or weren't thinking about just out of basic curiosity .

And how do you "randomly find" these people?

Hate 'em both, but between the two, Instagram makes more sense to me.
