I watched this game with a bookie. He had Golden State. He said they shoot too well to lose.

Looks like he was right.

Nick Nurse pulled a 'Pete Carroll', snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think he had to do it. The NBA wants this series to go to Game 7. Millions and millions of dollars are at stake. Plus, after they had pressured Durant to play, causing him to tear/rupture his Achilles tendon, they didn't want his personal sacrifice to be in vain. This situation is exposing the ugly underbelly of professional sports.

It is a devastating loss for Toronto. We played a terrible 2nd quarter and just couldn't finish them off even with KD out. I remain positive. Bring on game 6! I'm also very proud of how the Toronto fans reacted when KD left the game. We are a classy bunch!

The big question to me is: Why did someone else other than Kawhi Leonard take the last shot? Why did he pass the rock?

The bookie I watched the game with wondered aloud if the fix was in. I don't believe in that BS but I can see how some might.

(If the fix was in, it helped the bookie because he took bets on a pick 'em basis and needed Golden State to win in order to make out OK.)

I don't believe in conspiracy theories whatsoever, so I have no comment on this. I think it's a lot of bullshit. We took a shot and missed, simple as that.

Oh I completely agree that conspiracy theories are bullshit.

But again - what was the reasoning behind not having Leonard take the last shot? He had the ball in his hands with five seconds to go! Oh well, good luck in Game 6!

After being behind for the entire game, why the f**k did Toronto take a time out when they had finally taken a six point lead, with around three minutes left in the game?

TOR had GS beat. Nurse said the TO was to get his players rest. But he also gave the Warriors' guards -- best shooters in the game, maybe in history -- time to reset their legs and regain their composure.

The Warriors General Manager needs to GTFOH with those crocodile tears. They should have never cleared Kevin Durant to play in this game. They dogged Kawhi Leonard for not playing before his body was healed in San Antonio, but he is to be admired for standing his ground. Durant should not have listened to all the talking heads (like Steven A. Smith) gassing him up to play. And, even if he wanted to play, the Warriors organization should have not allowed it. Now, they are all ashen faced and "praying for him." It is disgraceful.

It's sad -- he couldn't have won either way.

The players were pressuring KD through the media to play.

The organization wanted him to play.

Talking heads wanted him to play.

He probably wanted to play.

All of them were wrong, and I was wrong to think he might be okay to play at less than 100%.

He saved their season and will get none of the credit if the Warriors come back and win.

Had he not gotten hurt, I have my doubts he would have gotten the credit.

GS has not embraced KD fully as one of their own and all but said they played better after he got hurt. When TOR knocked them around for 4 games they begged KD to save them. If recent history is any indication he probably sacrificed his prime to bail them out.

Yep, and Toronto's execution was shaky after that timeout. Nurse is getting killed in the sports media, and deservedly so.

Warriors are like the Patriots....late in games, your execution has to be tight. You keep giving them chances, and it'll come back to haunt you.

3:00 will become the NBA's version of "28-3" if TOR doesn't finish GS off.

Basketball is a game of runs....you don't stop YOUR OWN RUN!

On the last play, Kawhi had a chance to split the double-team, because it came late. He should have been the one taking the last shot, no one else.

If Toronto blows this, it will haunt that city and team forever. Ibaka probably said to himself, it's deja-vu all over again.

Raptors are learning the hard way, they have to take this title.....Warriors aren't giving them shit.

Well, I guess the Kevin Durant sweepstakes is over....I wonder what 'Plan B' is.

Whatever it is, it better not include Davis. The last thing we need is another Carmelo situation where management guts the team and loses valuable assets. Just go with youth.

The NBA Finals

Game 6

TOR-2018.pngToronto Raptors 114 5BLbmOPf1LnAcRB7gyanVpsILaEG06PQDATi-CLqpKe4u-PCM2MUy66J5ynwS_Fhnfw=w300Golden State Warriors 110

The Toronto Raptors let a NBA title slip through their hands in Game 5, as the Golden State Warriors overcame a devastating injury to their superstar Kevin Durant and showed theitr championship mettle by pulling out a one-point victory. They now found themselves back in Oracle Arena to face a game 6. However, the Raptors could take solace in the fact that they were able to win all of their games they played in Golden State this season. Meanwhile, the Warriorsd had to soldier on without Kevin Durant and hope someone else could step up to help Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

The game statred out with an 11-2 run by the Raptors that was singlehandely sparked by Kyle Lowry, who hit his first four shots including three 3-pointers. The Warriors would rebound, however, and the game would take a frenetic pace that lasted throughout the entire game. The Warriors would take the lead with 1:27 remaining in the first quarter, and from that point on the game went back and forth with neither team being able to jump out to any double digit lead. Just as Klye Lowry gave the Raptors a shot of adrenaline early on, Klay Thompson did the same for the Golden State Warriors as the Raptors concentrated much of their defense on Stephen Curry. The Warriors used nearly their entire remaining roster in this game while the Raptors relied on their starting lineup and their key reserves in Serge Ibaka, Fred VanVleet, and Norman Powell to carry this game.

The game would turn with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter when Klay Thompson went in for a driving layup and was fouled by Danny Green in mid-air, causing him to land awkwardly and hyperextend his left knee. For a while he could not put any pressure on his knee, but when he was informed that he would be forced to leave the game for good if he did not take the free throws, he came back out on the court and made both shots. He appeared to have gotten over the injury enough to try to walk it out, but he was taken ot of the game and sent back to the locker room. As it turned out, he would not return to the game.

The Raptors took advantage in the fourth quarter, with Fred VanVleet scoring 14 of his 22 points in fourth quarter including four 3-pointers. the last of which he hit with 3:46 remaining that put Toronto up for good. The Warriors tried to come back, getting to within one point and forcing a turnover with 9.6 seconds remaining. But Stephen Curry's 3-point attempt missed, and there was a mad scramble for the renound by both sides that resulted in Draymond Green grabbing the ball on the floor and calling for a timeout with nine-trenths of a second remaining. The problem, though, was they had no more timeouts left, which resulted in a technical foul and possession for the Raptors. They closed out the game and the season with three free throws and celebrated their first NBA title ever. Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam each led the Raptors with 26 points with Siakam grabbing 10 rebounds and Lowry dishing out 10 assists. Kawhi Leonard, the NBA Finals MVP, added 22 points while Serge Ibaka added 15 points off the bench.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 30 points before having to leave the gamne with a knee injury. Andre Iguodala scored 22 points, but Stephen Curry had an off night, scoring 21 points on 6 for 17 shooting from the floor. DeMarcus Cousins scored 12 points while Draymond Green had a triple double, scoring 11 points, grabbing 19 rebounds, and dishing out 13 assists. But in the end, they simply had too many obstacles and injuries to overcome the relentless Raptors drive. Could this be the end of the dynasty?

As for the Toronto Raptors. they come back home to Canada as NBA Champions, a title many will question but no one can take away from them.

We will enjoy this moment for a very long time! Who knows, maybe the Raps and Houston will see each other in the finals next year??!! wink

Yes, you are! The Houston Rockets would certainly have defeated the Warriors last year if not for Chris Paul's hamstring injury, but that's how it goes in sports. The Warrior were the 2017-18 NBA champions - hats off to them, and no dispute.

The Toronto Raptors are the 2018-19 NBA champions and anyone that questions or disputes that has no sports knowledge or experience of any kind.

Congratulations, Raptors! (But if they give Drake a championship ring, I have to disown them.)

I have to LOL @ folks who say Toronto's championship isn't legit because GS wasn't at full strength. In 2015, the Warriors defeated a Cavs team without Kevin Love & Kyrie Irving.....in 1999, SAn Antonio beat a Knicks squad without their best player.....in 1989, Detroit swept a banged-up Lakers team....I could go on and on. Should we put an asterisk next to those titles? Please...you play with what you have.

Amazing that Kawhi Leonard is only the third player in NBA history to win Finals MVP with two different teams. Lot of credit goes to Masai Ujuri. He knew the Raptors weren't getting to the next level with Derozan. He had the cojones to go all in on Leonard.

And of course, another ex-Knick gets a ring.

Toronto was always fully in charge of this championship series, period. What looked like a close series, really wasn't. The Warriors were always a step behind, they were never going beat Toronto. Cheer to Toronto.

I'll spend some time attempting to find a team to watch and cheer for: I kinda lost my focus this NBA season because of the god-awful Bulls; if I could ring John Paxson neck, I would.

I'm getting nervous that the Knicks will offer Durant the max regardless of his devastating injury.

Hot rumor has Kyrie going to Brooklyn.....good. He'll wreck their chemistry like he did Boston's.
