Very fair and sound. You're right; the Warriors followed that same formula.

If it weren't for Jerry West putting his foot down (and reportedly threatening to resign), they'd have traded Klay away.

You're also right that signing Butler or Harris only makes sense if you have a true No. 1 option. In Harris' case, he's more of a 2b or 3.

But KD after his injury will be better than Melo ever was.

Even as a Sixers fan I'm nervous about Jimmy B or Tobias max contracts. Jimmy B will be 30 in September but I'm quite sure he has a good 5 years in him. I'd prefer to give Tobias the

money simply because he's younger at 26 and didn't have a full season with the Sixers. I would probably let Jimmy B walk. The Sixers also appear to be high on last year's first rounder Zhaire Smith.

I'm wary of Jimmy Buckets as well. I'd be tempted to let the market set Tobias' value then match or exceed his best offer. I doubt he's a max player but as you say he's in his prime and could be part of the core.

Supposedly Kawhi is to meet with the Sixers but I don't expect anything to come of

it. Some fans in my Sixers group are hopeful. Kawhi has an uncle that lives in Philly and he was a huge fan of Allen Iverson.

No one truly knows what Kawhi will do. For me, the Sixers' biggest problem moving forward is chemistry. They may be forced to choose between their young stars.

But if, say, Kawhi was interested in moving to Philly, I'd ship Embiid, let Butley walk, and go with a core of Kawhi-Harris-Simmons.

Signing Durant is a risk the I don't want the Knicks to take. He won't play for a year, then it'll be another year before he's totally confident on the court.

It will take him more than a year, but I think less than two.

As for second tier free agents, a young, up & coming playoff team like Brooklyn could use Tobias Harris. I think he'd fit in nicely with Russell & Levert. I keep hearing Kyrie wants the Nets, but after what happened in Boston, I'd be wary of him despite his talent.

Kyrie's not a "1." He's proven that. But if you're Brooklyn, you're looking for more brand exposure. And they'll take the risk.

Lakers have one goal - surround Lebron wih cats who are lights out from the perimeter. Lebron flourishes with shooters - JJ Reddick would be nice, maybe Khris Middleton.

They want to add a third superstar badly. But if they don't, JJ Redick is the one FA that entices me as a Lakers fan. Guys like him and Middleton would mesh well with LBJ and AD. TOR proved that depth is critical.

BIG3 basketball tournament was on tonight. Damn, at age 50, Abdul- Rauf is still lighting it up, lol.

Luka Doncic was name the 2018-2019 NBA Rookie of the Year. The Slovenian star averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists while establishing himself as the foundation of the Dallas Mavericks’ future. TOR-2018.pngPascal Siakam was named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2018-2019 season. Playing 11 more minutes a game, Siakam upped his scoring from 7.3 points last season to 16.9 this year, his rebounding from 4.5 to 6.9 and, most notably, his three-point percentage from 22 to 36.9 percent. Throw in his ability to defend multiple positions extremely effectively, and the other two finalists, Brooklyn Nets point guard D’Angelo Russell and Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox, were really up against it to pull off the upset.

The most impressive aspect of Siakam’s 2018-19 campaign was the fact that he consistently improved over the course of the season, highlighted by a career-high 44 points to go along with 10 rebounds against the Washington Wizards in February. He emerged as a secondary scorer to Kawhi Leonard, and his ability on the fast break helped the Raptors finish the regular season as the most efficient transition team.

Lou Williams was named the 2018-2019 NBA Sixth Man of the Year. This is the third time he has won this award and the second time in a row he had earned this honor.

Williams became the career leader in points off the bench during the season. He said backstage that this year's award is different because he went into the season wanting a third honor to cement his legacy in coming off the bench throughout his career. Williams beat out fellow teammate Montrezl Harrell, with whom he formed the highest-scoring bench duo in NBA history last season, and Domantas Sabonis of the Indiana Pacers.

Mike Budenholzer was named the 2018-2019 NBA Coach of the Year. This is his second Coach of the Year award, joining his prior honor earned following a 60-win season as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks in 2014-15. Budenholzer beat out finalists Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers and Michael Malone of the Denver Nuggets to earn the award Monday.

The Milwaukee Bucks head coach planned to take his new team to the next level. He spoke about unlocking Giannis Antetokounmpo, installing a defense that would rank among the league's elite and maximizing the Bucks' talented-but-unproven roster.

As Budenholzer often said during the season, players tend to respond well to being told to shoot and the Bucks did just that. They generally dismissed the midrange, focusing mostly on getting to the paint – where they led the Eastern Conference with 53.3 points per game – and shooting three-pointers, ranking second in the league in triples attempted (38.2) and made (13.5).

No team scored more combined points in the paint and three-pointers per game than the Bucks, which averaged 93.8 points per game from those two areas.

More importantly, Budenholzer made good on his promise to make the Bucks an elite defense. Despite having long, athletic rosters for the past few seasons, Milwaukee hadn't been a defensive juggernaut.

But in Budenholzer's system, which involved locking down the paint at all costs while trying to coax opposing teams into inefficient midrange looks, the Bucks flourished. With Antetokounmpo roaming everywhere, point guard Eric Bledsoe at the point of attack – those two earned first-team all-defense – and Brook Lopez anchoring the middle, contesting more shots than anyone in the NBA, the Bucks held opponents to the lowest two-point field-goal percentage in the league.

6749_utah_jazz-primary-2017.pngRudy Gobert was named the 2018-2019 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. This this the second consecutive time he has won this award.

The 7-foot-1 Frenchman becomes the 10th player in NBA history to win the award at least twice and the second Jazz player, joining Mark Eaton. Gobert finished in the top five in the NBA in both rebounds (12.9) and blocks (2.3) per game. He beat out Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the 2018-2019 NBA Most Valuable Player. He becomes the third youngest player to win the award behind Derrick Rose and Lebron James.

Antetokounmpo averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game this season for the Milwaukee Bucks. He was voted a 2019 All-Star team captain alongside James. He became the first player to average 25 points and 10 rebounds per game on a team with the league's best record since Shaquille O'Neal did it as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in 1999-2000.

Antetokounmpo and the Bucks made it out of the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2001. They were eventually eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals by the Toronto Raptors. The "Greek Freak" averaged 25.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game during in the postseason.

Lebron is starting to break down, and Davis has had injury issues, so it makes sense for LA to build their depth. As you said, Toronto is the perfect example (look at what Van Fleet did in the playoffs).

Get some lights-out shooters, along with quick, athletic cats with length who can defend (like Siakam). Solid high I.Q. role players is the way to go.

Lakers were a 4-seed until Lebron got hurt, and the roster couldn't weather the storm.

LeBron has gotten to the Finals by carrying a team by himself and also by leading a Big Three (in MIA) and a Big Two and a Half (in CLE). He can't carry a team by himself anymore (though as you say he was on his way to doing that before Christmas), but he could win with AD + depth or AD + another big-time star.

Regardless . . . you're right. He needs shooters around him. Guys like JJ Redick fit the bill well.

Harden needs help with CP3 being injury prone. Chemistry issues be damned, they'll roll the dice because (i) Morey seems to think numbers are all that matters; and (ii) the owner is impatient.

Me either Phunk, the Markelle Faultz thing really set us back at the combo guard position.

If he worked out like they planned Reddick would be playing his true position, six man off the bench.

He's too limited to start for a championship contender, that position needs to be upgraded ASAP!

The latest free agency deals (and it's been crazy nuts whew ):

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan all signing deals with the Brooklyn Nets.

Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets are swapping point guards Terry Rozier and Kemba Walker in a sign and trade deal.

Tobias Harris re-signs with Philadelphia 76ers in a five year, $189 milliion deal.

Damian Lillard re-signs with Portland Trail Blazers with $196 million deal.

J.J. Redick signs with New Orleans Pelicans for two years, $26.5 million.

Milwaukee Bucks re-sign Khris Middleton to a five year, $178 million deal, expected to re-sign Brook Lopez to a long term deal, trade Malcolm Brogdon to Indiana Pacers in a sign and trade deal for $85 million in exchange for the Pacers 2020 first round pick and two future second round picks. BTW, they lose Nikola Mirotic as he is returning to Europe to play basketball.

I'm glad JJ Redick found a new home. It was time for Philly to end that experiment.

He was a damn good marksman when he was on but it was double trouble if he was

cold because he's gonna get roasted on the defensive end as a 2 guard.

Tobias Harris re upped and Jimmy Butler is rumored to be going to Miami as part of

a sign and trade for Miami's Josh Richardson.

Damn Brooklyn may be hell in the East in a couple of years.

I've been a Knicks fan since 1970. The problem with the Knicks and many of their deluded/arrogant fans is they have an inflated view of the franchise and are always looking for a savior. Here's a thought...how about the Knicks saving themselves? How about scouting well, drafting smart, make key free agent signings, and develop your own stars (like the Warriors did) instead of constantly pinning your hopes on a free agent to come to the rescue? How about drafting Demar Derozan instead of Jordan Hill? How about drafting Donovan Mitchell over Frank Ntilikina? I could go on and on. And can we stop with the Mecca of Basketball' bs? This franchise has been garbage for nearly 20 years, and hasn't won a title since I was twelve back in 1973. We have one of the worst owners in pro sports (who's created a bad culture at MSG and bans people who tell the truth about how he's run this franchise into the ground), and his flunky Steve Mills. NBA players aren't stupid...why would ANY top free agent come to a poorly-run organization? And for anyone who's buying the current spin from the Garden, I have a bridge to sell you. Now I'm not disappointed the Knicks missed out on Durant - IMO, the risk was too great. Maybe now they'll wake up and do what they should have been doing for years.

I think media bias plays a lot into the Knicks' inflated image. So many of the sports talking heads and announcing teams either grew up loving the Knicks, covered the Knicks, or remember the days when the Knicks were good. Players love playing in NY, but not for NY. And the stakes feel higher when the Knicks are relevant. But in the era of the reality show, America loves train wrecks, and the Knicks are just that.

Their strategy of saving space for big players has failed them for a decade. Their team building has been pretty awful.

Can big ass baby Kevin Durant survive the New York media? I think not. It's been reported that Mr. Durant left Golden State because he (Durant) didn't feel appreciated. rolleyes You know what, NBA teams need to promise to throw in a dog that will lick NBA stars balls when they aren't feeling the love. Good grief.

Knicks signed Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Bobby Portis, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington & Reggie Bullock....30 wins and another trip to the lottery.

They're in lotto territory again. But Knicks fans will be on Giannis Watch in 2021, clinging to their team's "broken clock" theory.

I'm not mad at Jimmy Butler. I'm actually glad he stated his real desire to be the top dog on

another team. He was not worth a max contract at 5 years given his flaky history. I would have

given him 3 at best. Tobias may not be worth it yet but at least he wants to play in Philly and don't mind being the 3rd option behind Embiid and Simmons plus instead of Jimmy leaving for zilch they got a solid player in Josh Richardson. I'm happy. Good luck in South Beach Jimmy he will damn

sure need it. My heart goes out to Knicks fans. Damn. One of the most loyal fan bases I've seen in all of sports and they have to put up with shitty management. And I thought Philly stuggled with the process. The Knicks situation now reminds me of the Harold Katz years in Philadelphia in the 80's where he dismantled a championship team with his bullshit.

Jimmy Buckets thinks he's a superstar, which is his greatest strength (because it drives him to succeed) and greatest weakness (because it hurts him as a teammate). But the reason Riles has been so successful in MIA is because he knows players and he knows Jimmy can't carry a team. Word is the Heat may make a move for Beal.

The Knick organization actually reminds me of the Washington NFL Football Team.

Don't feel sorry for Knicks fans....as I said before, most of them are delusional. Dolan gets away with this shit because fans don't hold him accountable. One playoff series win in 20 years, yet the Garden is filled no matter what.
