I'm from Northern Cali (still a Laker fan though). San Francisco and Berkeley are really gonna cost you. I'm originally from Oakland but the good areas there are getting crazy expensive. You have to do your homework but you can still find some good deals out here in the East Bay. You can't beat the diversity, the weather, and the food here. There's a lot to do out here and, to me, it's the best area in the country all things considered-- especially if you're looking to settle down with a family.

I just recently moved to Menifee from there and let me tell you. any place is BETTER then that hell hole that is Hemet....even Lake Elsinore at times and I hated living there also.

i lived in san fran for a couple of years, and thought about moving to san diego. but, although i love cali, i also like lots and lots of fresh water and a fair cost of living. so i stayed in minneapolis. wish you the total best though!

yes yes yisss Before I moved to Hemet I used to live in Murrieta from LE for half a year and GOD I STILL MISS IT! such a nice area to live, hell i would like to live in Temecula one day if housing weren't frickin' expensive. As for Canyon Lake yeah I call it the the "poor man's calabasas" because how big and rich those houses were, I've been there several times.

Riverside. It's cheaper than Orange County, LA, and Long Beach, but not as ghetto as San Bernardino. I'm from the 951 and have it tattooed on my neck. As an adult, I had a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, gated, pool, laundry room, central AC (which you're gonna love this time of year), and a space in a covered parking area for $1100/mo. Pretty big rooms too. Oh and I had a patio. My only problem with the city is I'm from there, and while it will always be home, I had to get away from all my circles I'd made in my youth. Riverside is one of those places where geographically it's huge (it's its own county) but it has that small town vibe sometimes. But if you're familiar with it, it's one of those places where freeways, even main riads aren't necessary. Back roads lead everywhere. There are plenty of museums, especially downtown, which is also where a lot of the nightlife is. It's home to the Mission Inn, which is a registered CA landmark. It's a hotel founded by Frank Miller, a traveler, an art collector. Presidents have stayed at the hotel. I myself have even stayed in one of the rooftop suites, where I proposed to my girlfriend, but that's a different story. High ceilings, balcony view, large beds and fireplaces. On the south side of the city you have March Air Field (I guess technically Moreno Valley but Riverside County nonetheless). It's an active military base but they have old fighter jets and bombers parked along the freeway (which just got renovated) and a museum showcasing more of its history. The Fox Theater also got renovated. Sheryl Crow just recently played there. The Municipal Auditorium works with Live Nation now, so some of the more "edgy" bands play there. I saw Motorhead there last year right before Lemmy died, rest in peace. But, there are a lot of drugs there. I'm 27, and granted, drugs are probably everywhere, but as a kid growing up, you either played sports or started a band. I'm into Prince -- guess which one I did. By no means though is it Compton or San Bernardino. People probably have guns, like I said, shitheads are everywhere, but I've never seen any total destruction because of gangs or whatever. Rialto, yeah, but Riverside no. Speaking of shitheads, if you have a truck you'll love it. Tons of hills.

As far as that apartment itself, nothing bad to say. No roaches or anything either.
I will say this though which I earlier omitted, the apartment was right next to a cemetery. A really old 1800s cemetery. I dont get spooked out by stuff like that. Not sure if you do. Definitely kept the bad people away and the calm and serenity near. That is, if you don't mind going to your car at 4 in the morning to be greeted by the giant cross somebody has on their headstone edit. Lol. [Edited 7/25/16 18:33pm]

nursev said: Hows Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino? What really goes on in those areas That is an EXCELLENT area. Very diverse though a heavy Hispanic population. It's financially diverse as well. The inland empire is awesome. It's where I grew up and what I sorely miss down her in Louisiana. I miss my Latinas....OH do I miss my Latinas. Fontana has higher priced track housing areas close to the foothills as well as lower end income closer to I-10. Rancho Cucamonga is a touch more upscale and home of the luxurious Victoria Gardens outdoor shopping mall...as well as an awesome restaurant by the Name of The Hat(great pastrami). The whole area is rich with whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians. And other specific ethnic neighborhoods are not very far away...koreatown, Arcadia...etc. And ure a hop skip and a jump away from being in L.A and it's awesomeness without being IN L.A. and having to deal with its 'issues'.

I just moved to Escondido (about 30 minutes North of San Diego) from NY last year and I love it here. I actually thought about moving closer to San Diego but after driving around the city a few times I decided that I like North County waay better. La Jolla is probably the most expensive part of SD but it's really nice. Chula Vista isn't that bad from what I've seen and it's waay cheaper but the closer you get to Mexico the cheaper everything gets. Can't beat being close to beaches though. Prince Rogers Nelson
