I'm not a Cali native so my opinion might not be as reliable (A 3 months newbie here ) but let me just say California is one of the toughest yet most beautiful places to live in, so you'll have an exciting life. Based on my experience in LA (which again, not as extensive as its natives) I noticed that Long Beach is the most diverse/relaxed city, and surprisingly so, cheap in comparisions to other cities in LA. But I loved everything about it, from the food culture, to the people, to the entertainment venues. Hope you're in for a beautiful adventure

It sounds exciting, but doesnt Long Beach have alot of gang violence and such and I thank u for your response Hamad

It was popular for that back in the day, Long Beach is a relaxed family-friendly city and a party town too now, so you have that balance. Its becoming more & more touristy these years from what I've been told. Most of the Saudi students - and many others that I know - who go to LA to study usually consider LBC home. International students would never live in dangerous areas, and even if they did the embassies that they're affiliated with wouldn't premit them. I live in the San Fernando Valley (Woodland Hills) because I wanna be near my campus & my BF, otherwise I would totally live there.

So there are alot of students there? How is the cost of living? I know Cali in general is high, but Ive noticed that some areas are just ridiculous when it comes to rent and home prices

As for the places to go,,,,,,,,omg plethora of choices depends on what interest you though. I've done alot of stuff in my short stay here and every single experience was exciting (albiet exhausting in some cases). What do you usually go for?

Expensive. You'd be lucky to find a two bedroom apartment in a nice clean neighbourhood that costs $1500. You have to do your research at your own time & find out. The reason why I suggest LBC is because it combines all of that A) Relatively cheaper rents B) Relaxed population and C) Exciting whether you're going for food, night life or just outdoorsy stuff.

Well since Im a midwest girl I guess I wanna see everything I like family stuff though...not a club person Im going there to buy a house and settle down permanently

I need some pics | |

Not a club person here either but in case you wanna break the routine you have that element too. Food culture is brilliant (massive foodie here), hiking is a big deal (I've yet to do it but I will) and the plethora of museums is overwhelming (even if you're not a museum person I'd argue you to check them out because there's something for everybody and you won't be disappointment, for the most part anyway). Omg, music shows and record stores Ameoba should be the first thing on your to-see-In-LA list and then you can do the rest, I love love love the hole in the wall record shops there.

Most of the pics I have are from FB so its a little tough to post here hopefully somebody else will assist with that.

Yeah I see that the rent for a house is $2500 I have 3 bedrooms now and pay $850
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Everything is more expensive here. Housing is the obvious one but that increases the cost of everything else.

I see that my son was there in March and he said they were on the subway and I asked why cuz his friend has a car and he said "have you seen how much they pay for gas...you cant drive everywhere" I drive everywhere in Texas so that has me bothered

I'm in the Bay Area, the East Bay, Near the Delta. lol
It gets hot In the summer! as I live inland As some one said $ 1300/1500 a month for 2 room apartment..more or less. If you looking to buy, you best ask someone with more knowledge I grew up here, moved away, moved back It was never too bad, never had any problems, I guess it depends where and what section you live. It seems now I hear more that the town is getting bad I'm not going to be much help, good luck [Edited 7/11/16 23:03pm] I will take my place, In the great below
