The only sitcom that made me laugh, think and learn something was "A Different World".

I used to love it but it's on ALL THE TIME. It's got to the point now that I'm sick of it. The theme song (which I always hated) makes me wish I was deaf and Phoebe is possibly the most annoying character ever to appear in anything.

I feel you, Friends is definitely one of the most hyped sitcoms of all time so I can see that it can get annoying. Just for the record, I've also always hated the theme song and, despite the fact that I love Phoebe, she could be annoying as shit and I found it ironic how the other characters never pointed out her hypocrisy in every single situation. But I think all the Friends characters were made that way -- with a lot of flaws, which is probably what pulled people in.

Friends is a lot like The Big Bang Theory today, while enjoyable it in no ways deserves the huge popularity that it has. Neither will be considered "Best" as time wears on.

I have to disagree. Whether it deserved the popularity or not, it's certainly well-loved amongst several audiences and will go down as a classic smile

It was an Ok show but to be honest....I got tired of the "Whitley" character (played by Jasmine Guy). Her Southern belle act wore thin really quickly and her voice was really annoying.

I enjoyed that one as well.............but I'd say the only sitcom that I could related to in a real real world sense was "Different World". It was a comedy that looked like my world when I was in school.

Couldn't get into those shows. A different world went down hill after season 1. Amen, 227 and In Living Color were better.

Thank you... I thought I was the only one that felt that way.

Yeah the show was supposed to be about Denise Huxtable but Lisa Bonet got into some trouble if my memory is right and was forced off. I liked Marisa Tomei on the show as well but left after season 1. Thus the secondary characters of Whitney and Dwanye were thrust into the lead characters after that. Never really bought Whitney and Dwanye relationship. Felt forced and was kinda boring for me.

This show took off after season 1.

Season 1 was by far the worst season for the show from my perspective.

Lisa Bonet was pregnant and carrying the child for Lenny Kravitz. Lisa being taken off from A Different World after the first season was Bill Cosby's way of punishing her.

Yes, but she has bedded Lenny Kravitz and had his child too, so she's not as stupid as you might think. She's doing just fine from what I hear. Besides, she hates Bill Cosby - I wonder why hmm

Apparently she lost all respect for Bill because she was a witness to his playing around.

Think what you want of him but at least he wasn't stupid enough to get involved with the women he actually worked with, hence no accounts.

Context is key. The setting, characters, references, sub-plots, humor, and even the preachy moments were unlike anything TV had seen before . . . or since.

In fact, it may be the most grounded portrayal of college life, period, on the small screen.

That being said, the biggest flaw in ADW was the development of the 2 main characters, Whitley and Dewayne. Whitley often came off as a one-trick-pony character, and Dewayne turned from likeable and relatable into kind of a jerk. I thought it did a better job of developing the secondary characters, which kept it fresh for a while.

Overall it's still one of my favorite sitcoms ever.

Dwayne was a better fit for Denise.

They even had an episode about it where Whitley was feeling insecure when Denise made a return appearance.

I love ADW but it's a shame Lisa Bonet wasn't able to spin off that cool cache she built up while on The Cosby Show.

I know that's what Bill had in mind. It just didn't work as a show until Denise was gone. Then Marisa Tomei left and...

With ALL that said I still didn't find A Different World funny. Went down hill after season 1. Whitley and Dewayne are blah.
