Interview with Graham Hancock on thelip.tv

They discuss Gunung Padang and Gobekli Tepe amongst others.

.

nice. thanks for the link. mr. hancock is an excellent source. as he points out, mainstream archeologists and historians have no hypothesis whatsoever that addresses the possibility that humanity was civilized before sumeria, and yet we are now finding the ruins of civilizations that predate those cultures by thousands of years.

.

and it's clear that with the discovery of places like gobekli tepe and gunung padang our views of history will have to radically change, but i think this can only be for the best.

.

i'm one of those who believe that atlantis existed; why would plato have any reason to lie about what he heard? why would anyone lie about what plato recounted?? how can he be respected for everything else he wrote, but not that?

.

anyway, i'm fascinated by the time period of 15,000 BC. i think there were well-developed civilizations here on earth but they were wiped out by some type of event. unfortunately, this planet is violently unstable and has always gone through severe warming/cooling trends, either naturally or through volcanic events so it could have been something like whatever flash-froze the siberian mammoth they found frozen in mid-bite.

.

if there is some other type of recurring cyclical event that dogs humanity like every 26,000 or 12,000 years earth orbits through a debris field and gets smacked by comets with resulting killer tsunamis that would be nice to have a heads up about too. i'd just really like to know what we're missing....

Stop Press - Latest News From The Excavations At Gunung Padang, The Mysterious Ancient Pyramid In Indonesia That Is Rewriting History

.

The archaeological establishment is scrambling to find some reason to reject and pour scorn on the extraordinary consequences of the excavations now taking place at Gunung Padang in Indonesia.

.

Since its first exploration by archaeologists in 1914 the site was thought to be a natural hill with 2500 year-old megalithic structures on top of it. But in 2010 geologist Dr Danny Hilman Natawidjaja (who earned his doctorate at Cal Tech) recognized this “hill” as a possible man-made pyramid and began to explore it using ground penetrating radar, seismic tomography, resistivity survey and other remote sensing techniques, as well as some direct excavations and deep core drilling.

.

The results were immediately intriguing (see this article I wrote in January for background: http://grahamhancock.com/...y-hancock/) producing evidence of deeply buried man-made chambers and yielding carbon dates going back as far as 26,000 years. This was the last Ice Age when our ancestors are supposed (according to the orthodox archaeological model) to be have been nothing more than primitive hunter gatherers incapable of large-scale construction and engineering feats.

.

Was it possible that geologist Natawidjaja was unearthing the proof of a lost advanced civilization of prehistoric antiquity? Such ideas are heresy to mainstream archaeologists and sure enough the archaeological establishment in Indonesia banded together against Dr Natawidjaja and his team, lobbied the political authorities, agitated locally and succeeded in slowing down, though not completely stopping, the further exploration of Gunung Padang.

.

Dr Natawidjaja fought back, doing some high-level lobbying of his own, taking the matter to the President of Indonesia himself. There were further delays to do with elections in Indonesia but just a couple of months ago, in mid-August 2014, the final obstacles were lifted and Dr Natawidjaja and his team moved back onto the Gunung Padang site with full approval to go ahead with their work, including permission to excavate the concealed chambers.

.

Archaeologists were furious and immediately began lobbying to get the work stopped – fortunately to no avail as preliminary excavations have produced results that prove beyond doubt that Gunung Padang in indeed a man-made pyramid of great antiquity as Dr Natawidjaja had long ago proposed. Even the relatively young layer so far excavated (the second artificial columnar rock-layer beneath the megalithic site visible on the surface) has yielded dates of 5200 BC (nearly 3000 years older than the orthodox dating for the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt) and there are firm indications from the original remote sensing and core drilling work of much older layers below. In short, it is now evident to all that the site is vastly older than the 2500 years that archaeologists had insisted upon for decades. Even the most hostile amongst them are therefore now reframing their assessment of the site and referring to it as “a gigantic terraced tomb, which was part of the biggest megalithic culture in the archipelago.”

Hmmm... I'm not one of those that believa Atlantis existed. Plato most likely heared the story of the volcano outburst that destroyed the civilization on Crete and, in the wake of it, the other civilizations in the Middle East like the Hittites and, eventually, Egypt. There's a book about it called 1177 BC by Eric Cline.
And as for Gunung Padang, a quick look at Wikipedia showed that there are other explanations: it could be a natural hill with terraces built by humans. And that's why research needs to continue: to find out as much as possible! Maybe there was a civilization there 25,000 years ago, but it's by no means certain.

^ cool. eric cline's theory about atlantis sounds interesting. i know a lot of people believe atlantis to have been near santorini; others are convinced it was in the meditarranean, near the rock of gibraltar. still others think that atlantis might have been near indonesia. it would be fun to find out for sure.

.

the archeologist on site at gunung padang indicated that the ruins are manmade. the top level of construction dates back only a few thousand years, but the lower level are much much older. mind you, i have not been there. i am only relying on what he reportedly said, and not relying on wikipedia. again, i really can't wait until we know more.

there are numerous theories that some sort of great flood really happened, as is evidenced by wear and tear on the sphinx/etc. I do wonder how places come up with specific time frames for things.. there's no proof carbon dating is accurate (unless someone has a time machine and we don't know it). But in general it seems man/sentient beings have been here far longer than many realize

nope. radioactive decay rates are based on fundamental pyhsical constants, which do not change randomly just for fun

it's like gravity. we know the gravitational constant. so if we observe an apple falling and measure the height at two known points in time, we can caluclate exactly where it was or where it will be during the whole falling process. same is valid for movement of the moon, planets or comets. we can exactly predict when Halley will be back or when it was here the last 100 times. without using a time machine smile

to claim otherwise would suggest the apple (moon or comet) randomly slowing down and accelerating or even changing direction all independently from the gravitational constant. shrug

i have clicked my way from link to ancient history link and ended up with this series*:

.

.

http://watchseries.lt/serie/ancient_aliens

.

there is a pretty intriguing theory advanced therein^ that warring alien factions now battle for control over earth, some of whom may have been responsible for deliberately destroying human civilization periodically, both to reduce the threat we pose as we advance technologically and to control our population. eek

.

interestingly, similar wars are described in the oldest writings of india and sumer.

.

former canadian prime minister of defense paul hellyer has publicly alleged that aliens have been co-existing with humans on earth for thousands of years and have an agenda which might not be in our best interests... http://www.dailymail.co.u...files.html

.

i find that notion to be quite disturbing.

There are several high ranking people that off the record will tell you simliar stories.

I think he believes it. I don't think he is crazy on any level related to this topic.

It takes a lot of guts to talk in public on this topic.

For me, I have yet to see anything that "proves" it to my satisfaction.

Until I do, I won't take any tv show or other humans word for it.

Ancient Aliens is one of my favorite shows. Season 1 I was hooked. Still a great series but not quite as focused as in the first few seasons. I want to petition them to do a show on nothing but lenticular clouds. A third grader can see something's super fishy about them. Anytime a weirdly smooth, disc-shaped cloud doesn't move in the presence of wind, while normal-looking clouds blow past and/or underneath it it, I call bullsh**

.

AA did a VERY cool episode on pyramids I think in 2013 or around then. Check it out if you get a chance. Might be hard to find online but they repeat episodes on the History Channel and the other History (H2?) channel. Fascinating information. That episode isthe one where I learned the Great Pyramid in Egypt has eight sides; four sides, with each side very slightly divided down the middle in a slightly concave effect. Get this: you can only see the sun separately light up each divided half of a side during the solstice (or equinox? It's been a while since I watched that episode). And I think you can really only see the effect from the air. Sorry, I had better command of the details a year or so ago when I watched the episode!

.

They did a show on Sphynx as well I believe, but it was not very memorable to me.

.

Paul Helyer is sharp as a tack and not long ago had a very intriguing list of recommended reading. Certainly has his credentials. So courageous for him to come out and talk openly about UFOs and EBEs. Not that I'm the best judge of people, but he strikes me as man of conscience and I have major respect for his willingness to follow evidence where it leads--no matter how crazy or unbelievable the destination. Some call that conspiracy theory; I call it critical thinking, and no different than what a good detective does in going about solving a mystery.

If the Sphinx was indeed that much older, wouldn't we have to find other evidence that there was a civilisation capable of building it at that time? I mean, for example, building this was only possible after agriculture first appeared and so on. Which would have been about 5500 BC in Egypt.

There are buildings of around 12,000 yearsold in present day Turkey, so it's not impossible.
