Chef (2014) - A chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family.

Easily digestible food porn. star star star (out of five)

What a strange movie. Strange because whilst the premise is a good one (if a cliche one but it is a family film LOL), it's just rather poorly exucuted with a lead actor who is kinda ordinary and not leading man status Iam afraid. He is not bad, just kinda average.

Having said that, hollywood these days is almost totally devoid of charismatic lead actors which is why I stay away from modern hollywood in general. So Belushi is still servicable. Maybe the fact it wasn't a comedy or a drama was a problem too, meaning the scipt and lackluster direction are probably at fault too? Heck even Michael Caine as the "angel" was kinda ordinary too so maybe not enough or too many script re-writes were at fault here LOL.

It's not a bad movie or even a poor one, just one that could of been alot better.

It seems that around the early 90's Disney made quite a few bomb live action films LOL. The poster is pretty cool though lol

Just saw this on HBO...two hours I can't get back. confused

star out of five

It really sucked that the boring and confusing dialog ruined what should had been a highly stylized, suspenseful movie since it included such a strong cast. The positives are that it was nice seeing Cameron Diaz playing an evil bitch role instead of her usual valley girl roles...Brad Pitt was sexy as hell with the signature long hair and there pretty much hasn't been a bad role I've seen Javier Bardem in....it's just that overall, the movie sucked balls.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Oldboy (2013) – 3/5 Not the complete turkey some of the reviews had led me to expect. I think the first third is quite good, and, though I do think it goes off the rails once our guy gets released, I think it’s still worth watching if you’re a fan of the earlier version, even if only to try to figure out why it doesn’t work as well.

Words and Pictures (2013) - An art instructor and an English teacher form a rivalry that ends up with a competition at their school in which students decide whether words or pictures are more important.

I read mixed reviews about this, but went to see it anyway because I like Juliette Binoche. My mistake. Like the Jon Favreau movie Chef, it talks about using a person's talents to create something inspired and above mediocrity, but ironically both films are exactly what they are railing against. I found the script for this one in particular to be incredibly unrefined and obvious. star star

The Great Beauty poster.jpg

La Grande Bellezza/The Great Beauty 4/5 I think it's one of those you like it or you don't, kind of movies. Obviously I did like it. Maybe it's an age thing.
The film opens with a quote from Céline's Journey to the End of the Night: “To travel is very useful, it makes the imagination work, the rest is just delusion and pain. Our journey is entirely imaginary, which is its strength.”[8] The main character is an aging socialite, Jep Gambardella, who once wrote a famous novel in his twenties, only to retire into a comfortable life writing cultural columns and throwing parties in Rome. After his 65th birthday party, he walks through the ruins and city streets, encountering the various characters, reflecting on his life, his first love, and sense of unfulfillment.

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990)

Is Pedro Almodovar a misogynist or a messenger about the evils of misogyny? This movie is exhibit 1 for both.

Upstream Color (2013)

Beautifully shot. A suspenseful, ludicrous, inspiring and shocking movie (at alternate times and sometimes at the same time). Only at the end did I sense a nuanced and surprising allegory for God and atheism. Neitzsche might have loved this flick, which, who knows, may go down as a 21st-century classic.

Malificent

I loved it. 4 out of 5 stars.

Malificent is a fast flying fairie with a mission. Despite being seriously injured, there is nothing "Damsel in Distress" about her. I wish they had this movie when I was a little girl.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

2/5

Top Secret!

I loved this movie as a kid, but looking back on it now it's bizarre.

I watched with my 13 year old who smiled throughout and at the end told me it was weird.

Val Kilmer is hot and there are so many memorable lines that I have quoted for 30 years but didn't know where they were from!

3/5

Under the Skin

My kind of movie! It has most elements I want, creepiness without all-out horror, a plot that isn't spelled out, aliens and desolate landscapes. Oh and Scarlet gets naked a lot.

La Vénus à la fourrure / Venus in Fur (2013) - An actress attempts to convince a director how she's perfect for a role in his upcoming production.

I liked the play so it was interesting to see Roman Polanski's adaptation. I'd give it an extra 1/2 star if I was fluent in French and could better pick up the slight difference in how Emmanuelle Seigner played Vanda the actress vs. 'Vanda' the character in Thomas' script. Nina Arianda made that distinction a real strength in the play, but in this movie, it just all sounds like French to me. star star star

Blue Is The Warmest Color (2013)

I wasn't ready.Léa Seydoux and (especially) Adèle Exarchopoulos gave great acting performances. The homages to the French canon and American auteurs were noticeable but the movie felt fresh. Lagged at points but worthy of the praise it received last year.

8/10. Who else has seen this and what did you think? I loved how "down to earth" the story was and still very suspenseful. And OMG, Tom Hardy is fantastic.

The White Ribbon (2009)

Another masterpiece from Michael Haneke, after Hidden (Cacheé) (4.5/5) and AMOUR (5/5), this director clearly posesses a unique filmmaking angle and it perfectly shows in this film. It tells the story of a bunch of weird accidents that took place in a small German village circa World War I, the film is probably one of the few works that I saw that can cover many ranges, at the same time, keeping the mystery and the whole plot that it already started. The cinematography is top notch, as usual with black-and-white foreing films:

GallowWalkers 0.5/5. I haven't the slightest clue what the heck I was watching. Some horror western. I rarely do horror, so this wasn't my choice. I don't remember the end. I don't know how this ended up being played. I guess Wesley's name came up in conversation. I hope he got paid up front. It was bad, y'all, bad.

August:Osage County. 3/5 Awesome cast, which made it watchable. Funny seeing all these known British people dropped in an Oklahoma setting. Maybe the book delves deeper but the movie seemed pretty shallow and basic to me. An overbearing domineering mother who's terminally ill, an outspoken older child, a put upon middle child, and a carefree irresponsible younger child, all adults, the only teenager/child in the entire family is acting up a little because their perfect world is falling apart, a dark family secret that really isn't a secret to all the major players, all get together over a family crisis and explode all over each other, oh and the lone minority housekeeper who's observing it all in silent dignity.
