I know this movie didn't get great reviews there are some seriously funny parts in this movie. The first half is a stiitch. I busted a gut last night during the dinner, minute lice, enormous wiener scene. I've seen it several times over the years but it still always makes me laugh. lol

That's one of my favourite movies. I'd give it a five easily.

World War Z 2.5 stars out of 5. Ok, but, I find Walking Dead much scarier and intense. Not that Walking Dead doesn't have some script issues.

Gravity 2.5 stars out of 5. A disaster movie has built in limitations for in depth story telling especially in subtext. Entertaining, but don't think to hard. Worth seeing in the theater do to all the special effects and the feeling like you are in outer space.

The Lone Ranger 2.5 out of 5 stars. It's more of a buddy movie-once you learn the story behind both the Lone Ranger and Tonto. It's just like the Pirate movies Johnny's in-over the top and fun.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I've had a little real world upheaval recently...nothing too major or dramatic, but I decided to take a little break from my internet life.

I still haven't managed to get around to watching the five hour cut of Fanny & Alexander.

I watched High Society for about the millionth time yesterday. It still gets five out of five stars. And it has my favorite musical number of all time...

A bit long but throughly enjoyable. Plus I like the subversive message bout the evils of american expansion/capitalism.

Pointless, but you do get to see Justin Bartha's bare ass, and Weasley not being a wizard.

Prisoners. Really atmospheric and emotionally gripping, some really good scenes and the acting was all round fantastic. The cinematography was really nice. But it all sort of fell in on itself in the final act and it really wasn't that original. So I give it a... 7/10. Hope to see Filth some time this week.

This was in part a rebuttal/debunking of Morgan Spurlock's movie Supersize Me.

It's a low budget home-made doco about obesity, insulin resistance, carbs and why FAT is not the enemy and SUGAR is. Fantastic easy to understand and challenges everything your government recommends you should eat.

4/5

The Mortal Instruments:City Of Bones 5/10 Started pretty good but fizzled out.

After Earth 6.5/10 Better than I thought it would be. Don't like Will Smith. Worth a watch.

The Internship 6.5/10 Pretty decent. Had its funny moments. Story is predictable but what else would you expect.

Byzantium 5/10 Worth a watch.

Well, it's good to see you back here.

If you've waited this long then you might as well hold off the extended Fanny & Alexander until around the holidays if you think you will have time then. I imagine it goes really well with Christmastime.

I watched Persona the other day, but like most people I assume, my impression afterward was confuse I've read some analyses of it since and will feel more confident giving it a rating after a second viewing.

Gravity 0 stars out of 5. It was just a propaganda movie designed to make everyone think America is Awesome again. The physics of it were totally impossible.

The Hobbit: an unexpected journey. That movies was pretty funny. I was chuckling the whole way through. Bilbo, the dwarfs, those giants that turned to stone, the chase scene, the precious dude. It wasn't a comedy, but it shudda been.

Thank you, Sexton. I really appreciate that.

I actually had that exact same thought about F&A. I've never made it around to Persona, but it's definitely on my watch list. I've heard it said that it's very much a movie of its time, & that it perhaps doesn't hold up as well as some of his other major works.

I watched that a year or so back. I really liked it, particulary his criticisms of Sporlock's movie, but I believe he seemed to downplay saturated fat, or at least that's how I remember it. I just finished reading Michael Moss's 'Salt Sugar Fat' where he dedicted a good section to that particualr topic, with a focus on cheese in particular. A good read if you're interested.

Now You See Me Poster.jpg

Now You See Me 3.8/5 I enjoyed it. Seemed original to me, yeah the magic was beyond possible but that's what I want in a movie so it worked for me. And a heist movie too, win/win.

Three men, flanked by two women and an Chinese man. The words GIJoe written diagonally below.

G.I. Joe Retaliation 2.5/5 I liked it better than I thought I would, but it didn't hold my attention enough through a sitting I was left with big missing sections of plot. I had to watch it 3x to understand the plot and who was who, and why, but I didn't mind. biggrin

Epic (2013 film) poster.jpg

epic 3/5 It was cute, not great. Held my attention better than the average kids animation movie. Giggled a couple of times.

I actually watched fathead again last night just to refresh my memory. He didn't just downplay saturated fat risks, he spent most of the second half of the film attacking the heart disease/sat fat link. Interesting though, and some initial browsing this morning brought up a good number of studies that seem to support what he said. Never hurts to have your assumptions tested.

Completely unrelated...I have to show off what I bought last weekend: boxed
