The Impossible (2013) star star star star

There's not much to fault with this. Based on a true story set during the tsunami.

I was blown away by the flood footage that wasn't even CGI.

I cried more during the trailers than I did during the actual film, and that's good, means it wasn't an emotionally manipulative tear-jerker. It was devastating though.

"Blue Jasmine" -- The new Woody Allen flick that is a sort of remix of "A Streetcar Named Desire." Cate Blanchett is MAGNIFICENT in a can't-take-your-eyes-off-her kind of way. The thing that was amazing is that I could see her "work" as an actress but it in know way diminished the character. I just couldn't get enough of seeing her perform in every scene. Got to be an Oscar contender... 5 stars! [Edited 8/25/13 17:18pm]

Saw this last night, and I totally agree with your 5 star rating. Cate Blanchett was truly magnificent in this, and it was funny and heartwearming and oh-so-heartbreaking.

I was also smitten with Sally Hawkins ... I've been waiting for her to be in a really good role ever since I saw her in Happy Go Lucky, and here it is.

They are filming Part 2 because Part 1 was a Monster hit...What are they gonna do? The ORIGINAL Karate Kid was so good they didnt need to tell parts 2 & 3...I feel the same way about the re-make...For young Jayden's sake I hope it's a Hit...

We Are The Millers".

I laughed a lot, but I also drank a lot of wine while I watched it. But, let's chalk the laughs up to pretty decent comedy.

Rate it 3.5 out of 5.

On BD What a masterpiece IMHO. It's a 3 hour movie and I was gonna watch half and the other half later today, but I was so entertained that I watched the whole movie. A+ Glad I bought it. Also introduced me to Carlos Castaneda writings.

It wasn't hilarious, but funny for a Bergman film.

[img:$uid]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d1/Jack_Reacher_poster.jpg/220px-Jack_Reacher_poster.jpg[/img:$uid]

This movie was pretty good. Lots of action. I really liked the Jack Reacher character. No BS, just straight-forward action.

Then I saw an interview with Lee Child, the guy that writes the Jack Reacher books. It was a good interview so I bought a couple of his books.

They are AWESOME. Each book is 500 pages of non-stop ass-kicking and detective work. i'm hooked!

So I give the movie three broken wrists out of five broken wrists - wait? Five? Was there a one-armed guy in this?!? OK - I give the movie itself FOUR broken wrists out of SIX broken wrists.

But then I give it TWO MORE broken wrists for introducing me to these awesome books.

Overall, Jack Reacher earns six broken wrists out of a possible six broken wrists.

.

Star Trek:Generations. WTF! No wonder all I remember is the crash, and Kirk riding a horse. Okay, it was fun to watch for reasons I don't understand, because the plot/storyline was completely pulled out of somebody's butt. I mean seriously, one could go on for days with all the plot holes. But I think folks showed up did their jobs, like the actors, the director, the music, visual effects and everybody else and made it at least watchable.

Det sjunde inseglet / The Seventh Seal (1957) - A man seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague.

I like that it was dark, but I prefer the more slice of life Bergman films. star star star star

Georgy Girl - I love this film. Lynn Redgrave is a delight, but Charlotte Rampling's cold hearted Meredith the other stand out performance for me (4 stars)

[img:$uid]http://www.dvdwarehouse.com.au/images/P/p_25541_01.jpg[/img:$uid]

Alfie - Another British film from the 60's, that I adore. I sometimes think that Alfie is unrealistically cold to be such a chick magnent, or that the women just can not possibly be that subservient to him. However, who am I to doubt the powers of his charms... I give it 3.5 stars because I am not a fan of "breaking the forth wall"

[img:$uid]http://www.hitchcockwiki.com/files/images/5404.jpg[/img:$uid]

Vertigo- My favorite Hitchcock work, however if I watch this late at night it can feel lengthy.. It's a visual treat and quite thrilling (4 stars)

In A World- I went to the cinema Sunday to see Blue Jasmine, but I was late, so I bought a ticket for this instead (expecting to not like it). Surprisingly, I liked it a lot. It was not cheesey as I thought it would be. Was more of a dry comedy with a feeling similar to Silver Lining Playbook.

I give it 3 solid stars

I have a question:

WHAT THE HECK IS "DON JON" SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT?

I saw the preview at the movies, and it was set up as a boy/girl story that unravels when the girl catches the boy watching porn. She goes nuts.

But all the commercials just show Joseph Gordon-Levit bopping around town, like this is supposed to be a hip feel-good movie.

The tagline is "Everybody loves a happy ending" which is, of course, a double entendre.

I have NO idea what this movie is supposed to be about. That's usually a bad, bad sign.

The reviews I've read have been pretty favorable so far.. Sounds like the typical story of a douche-bag guy's attempt to reform, with Scarlett Johanessen and a porn addiction mixed in there.

I plan to see it! smile

Yeah, it looks kind of fun based on the commercials. But a lifetime of being misled by commercials and previews has made me skeptical, LOL. I'll have to wait until the movie mavens of the Org tell me what it's about! smile

It made me cry, it made me smile, there's a sadness, there's joy. It was very well put together. It's a story unlike anything you've ever heard. You feel good about life at the end.
