It took me four years to decide what color to paint my bedroom - and that's not permanent. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Very well said. I agree that we all scream look at me from time to time. Whether it's hair colour, clothes, or something more outlandish.
I have one very small tattoo on my hip. I've had it for over 30 years. I have to admit that I'm very glad I got the tattoo somewhere "private" and didn't get it on my arms, neck, breasts etc. I'm glad I don't have anymore than the one either. Getting tats used to be different and somewhat cool, now it's just typical and boring. Everybody has them. There is nothing unique about having tattoos anymore.
I don't think it should hinder anyone's chance at a job, but it does, especially when they're all hap-hazzard all over the body.

It's too bad others didn't see it the same way you do. We would see a lot fewer ugly tats or chinese symbols that the owner doesn't even know what it means - LOL

Shyra said:Like many have said, it depends on the type of job, the company standards, etc. Personally, I don't like tattos on anybody. I have seen very few that actually look good. I don't undertand the appeal. People who have 75% of their bodies covered in tattoss must "have issues." No to mention the girls with those "skank stamps." But if a woman has a tramp stamp, at least that one would generally be hidden from public view unless the bearer is a a true tramp. Any fool who tattoo his face deserves to be ostrasized. .............................1st, Why are they considered a tramp stamp? its just another place to get a tattoo, why is that skanky??... And, What if the girl has one, but it can only be seen in a bikini?? AND, Some of us are NOT tramps.. ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

I have to say, I am intrigued by some of the guys' tatted sleeves these days. Some of the artwork is very tasteful and intricate. I may just have to start saving my pennies and get myself one... maybe. On the other hand, some guys really have some random stuff in odd places. I was at the grocery store one day and ran into a really handsome guy in the aisle. He could have been a model. He was tall, had muscles, and a beautifully chiseled face. Great! He is probably used to everyone oogling him, even other guys. So as I am taking in the full picture... I look down and, what do I see on the back of his calf? A huge tattoo of what looked to be a squirrel. A squirrel! And not just some cute little thing, but some god-awful piece of ink that easily covered 75% of his calf. I was thinking, dude, "So much for your modeling career. Unless, of course, you are modeling mammal art." Geez.
Then, when I taught school, there was a very voluptuous 3rd grade teacher I worked with. She was very pretty, except that she had a ginormous tattoo across her upper chest. She was not shy about showing it off either! The trouble is, there was so much going on in the design, it was hard NOT to stare at her boobs. From one peek during a staff meeting, I made out some kind of bear paw prints, a heart, and what looked like a vine. Later, while on recess duty with her, I caught another gander and glimpsed the phrase, "la vida loca" written in script. It wasn't a vine afterall! Still, as a teacher, all I could think to myself was, "you would think you'd want to cover that up a bit." What do parents and students think? Don't tell me she got the work done while she was in prison....

course, especially if they're ugly, then there's no chance. tattoos scream 'irresponsible' .. i told my kids, if u are going to have one, get them where they can be covered. i'm so pleased that my daughter hasn't succumbed to peer pressure, but then she's in kavos at the moment so who knows what she'll come home with

I think it depends on what you want to stand out for. My son is under 40 (28) with no tats, piercings, neatly barbered. He is a carpenter on construction sites.
He stands out as being respectful, hardworking, easy-going and funny. "Rebel" is not him. He also stands out for being well-dressed and smellin' good. Many friends, has he.

Well, I would say 'sexy' if I wasn't his mother (he's a very good-looking man! ladies like him.)...
While not being a fan of tattoos in any way, I certainly believe people with them can be all those positive things. I was just pointing out what my un-tatted son stands out for, since kidmelody2012 brought it up.

Many folks in my profession (graphic design) have tatts. I've got 11 so far - hasn't hurt me as far as getting work. But when I go on interviews I cover them up, because you never know.....some design companies are more 'corporate' than others.
