I don't mind. smile I give you permission to rent Close-Up too. It's the same director as Certified Copy and it placed at #42 on the latest Sight & Sound 250 list--which was the main reason I rented it.

hmph! My stalking is strictly platonic. I'm just leeching a little off of Sexton's culture snob credibility. i haven't watched Close-Up yet, but I do have Kiarostami's latest (Like Someone In Love) on my viewing short-list.

Kimjongilia 3/5 - the stories are powerful, but the presentation (some dramatization, some extreme close-ups, some interpretive dancing(!)) undercut the impact. I think it would have been more effective to let the people speak and let the stories tell themselves.

Natural Selection

Natural Selection 3.5/5 What won me over the most is the final choice of the lead female character, she was cute with her naive self, but I'd of killed somebody being in a marriage with no sex for 24 years or gone complete nuts.

Cidade de Deus (City of God)

City of God 4.5/5 I loved this, I don't know how I kept missing it. I loved the way the story was told, I loved how the characters were introduced. Sad but real, hard to believe people live like that, but they do everyday in a lot of place around the world.

Older than America Poster.jpg

Older than America 3/5 Traumatized by the strange visions that grow more vivid with each passing day, a young woman of Native American heritage begins piecing together a Catholic priest's diabolical plot to prevent her mother from revealing the atrocities that unfolded at a Native Indian boarding school.

Man of Steel (2013)

Despite the valid criticisms of this movie made on the org, I did enjoy it. Zack Snyder gave it his usual sleek look which for me was enough of a distraction from the flaws (and there are many) that I give it a thumbs up. star star star 1/2
