Pretty average to bad ratings in general but I still liked it for what it was.

Made me really HATE the men in that film in particular and abusive, jealous, misogynistic men in general though...especially those who confuse hard fucking with being an asshole who doesn´t know how to satisfy a horny woman.

The story is loosely based on a true story by Valerie Torras (?) who wrote a novel before they turned it into a movie.

A young woman lives out her nymphomaniac tendencies until she falls in love with some Spanish dude who ejaculates quickly, is extremely jealous and has an inferiority complex, then she gets pregnant but has an abortion because he is unstable and has a cocaine habit and fucks prostitutes, she is in debt because she pays for his habit and the rent for the big ass penthouse they live in (that he rented in the first place in order to impress her...what a fucking loser).

She ends up as a high class prostitute, falls in love with some Italian customer who lends her to his friend, and later she quits and accepts herself the way she is.

Reminded me vaguely of Bitter Moon....had a similar vibe to it. But I much prefer Bitter Moon.

I've been stuck inside for a week, now, and I have been watching a lot of movies. Most of them have been bad because I just don't have the energy, but a couple have been decent.

The African Queen--A missionary working in Africa whose village is destroyed by the German army during WWI takes up with a small boat captain and hatches a plot to fight back at a warship.

Pretty enjoyable. I saw this when I was a kid, but barely remember it. Acting is top notch, and it's carried by two people for 95% of it. Being stuck inside, I was looking for an outdoorsy movie, and this was nice to look at, and the pacing was great. It's a little unbelievable, but it is a movie after all.

4/5

Not going to give away any spoliers for those who haven't seen it...but I LOVED it!!! There was one scene I didn't quite 'get' but I won't go into that now. confused This movie was everything I hoped it would be. Zachary IS Spock!!!!!! I didn't think I would ever like this reboot as much as the original, but it's growing on me very quickly! Mainly because of Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban as McCoy. Perfect casting!

The Giant Mechanical Man

Jenna Fisher falls for two men that happen to be the same man. It's a sweet romance about lost souls. Pretty standard fare, with some less than believable and fairly annoying supporting characters. But perfectly watchable. 3/5

The Great Gatsby (2013) - A Midwestern war veteran finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor.

It looked fantastic. I think because it was so flashy, it took away from the story. A worthwhile sacrifice perhaps if the aim was to make a summer blockbuster. The 3D version gets an extra 1/2 star. star star star 1/2

Iron Man 3 – 3.5/5 – Something of a let-down, as it ran a bit flat to me for long stretches and some of the action scenes felt pretty generic, but still good fun.

Enemies of the People - 5/5 served as a perfect, chilling companion piece to Henry Kamm's 'Cambodia: report from a stricken land' which I just finished reading yesterday.

The Khmer Rouge slaughtered nearly two million people in the late 1970s. Yet the Killing Fields of Cambodia remain unexplained. Until now. Enter Thet Sambath, an unassuming, yet cunning, investigative journalist who spends a decade of his life gaining the trust of the men and women who perpetrated the massacres. From the foot soldiers who slit throats to Pol Pot's right-hand man, the notorious Brother Number Two, Sambath records shocking testimony never before seen or heard. Having neglected his own family for years, Sambath's work comes at a price. But his is a personal mission. He lost his parents and his siblings in the Killing Fields. Amidst his journey to discover why his family died, we come to understand for the first time the real story of Cambodia's tragedy.

This was such a disappointment. Star Trek was much better. This is a remake of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, as a prequel. A lazy fail despite the razzle dazzle. It's internal logic doesn't hold or really attempt to as far as that goes.

Kon-Tiki (2012) - The story of legendary explorer Thor Heyerdal's epic 4,300 miles crossing of the Pacific on a balsa wood raft in 1947, in an effort prove it was possible for South Americans to settle in Polynesia in pre-Columbian times.

There is the obvious comparison to Life of Pi, but this was filmed on a real ocean instead of on a soundstage. That aspect of the movie was very impressive. star star star 1/2

I watched "Parker" last night. It's an action movie starring Jason Statham. In my defense, my wife picked this one out. In her defense, the only choices I gave her were the Statham movie, the Tom Cruise "Jack Reacher" movie, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger "Last Stand" movie.

ALWAYS go with Arnold. A-L-W-A-Y-S.

"Parker" was clearly a movie where the normally awesome Statham read the script, thought "This really sucks but they'll pay me huge jack and I get to drive a Bentley convertible, so yeah. I'm in".

The premise is that Parker is a crook with a heart of gold. "Never steal from people that can't afford it, and never hurt anyone that doesn't deserve it". In case you didn't get the message, the first scene shows Parker and some co-horts robbing the Ohio State Fair, and Parker is disguised as a priest. Yeah, because priests don't stand out at a state fair!

The heist goes well except for one thing - one of the other dudes torches the wrong side of the barn, which results in a death, which violates Parker's "Never hurt anyone that doesn't deserve it" rule. Naturally Parker is extremely PO'ed at this and when asked later to donate his share of the loot with the rest of the guys as seed money for "The Job of The Century', Parker refuses. So just as naturally, the other dudes kill Parker.

Or so they thought.

It turns out that Parker is not only impossible to kill, but he also has the recuperative powers of Superman.

Parker had been introduced to these bad dudes through his buddy/fellow thief/mentor/future father-in-law Nick Nolte. At this point, we can only ask one question:

WHAT THE $%%$%^$ HAPPENED TO NICK NOLTE?

[img:$uid]http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/PARKER_03-535x359.jpg[/img:$uid]

This picture doesn't even begin to do justice, or injustice as the case may be, to Nolte. I mean, I know the guy had some rough patches, but WOW. And his voice! If you want to know what smoking God only knows how many packs of Marlboros a day will do to your voice, watch "Parker". Nolte is, for all intents and purposes, unintelligible. And for once, it's not because he's drunk/high. It's Smoker's Voice to the max. He literally GARGLES his lines.

Now, Smoker's Voice aside, Nolte's character is a maze of contradictions. At times he's Parker's best friend, but he sets up Parker with a bunch of made-men/known killers and calls them "good guys". They aren't! He is unmarried but has an adult daughter that Parker is banging, and he has apparently raised this daughter to accept a life of crime. She's totally non-plussed when it comes to Parker getting cut, shot, slit, whacked, or burned. In fact, she actually possesses surgical skills - she sews up Parker's hand after he stops a stabbing (his) by running the knife through his own hand. Yet the bad guys send ONE GUY to kidnap her and she goes to pieces. It's weird.

So anyway, Parker gets shot and left for dead in a lake, which of course only makes him mad. His character has a lot in common with Mel Gibson's from "Payback". All he wants is his split from the original heist.

Well, he wants to kill them all, too. So there's that.

This would have been a decent movie if they'd stopped there and just let Parker go about his business of killing other bad guys in as bloody a way as possible, but for some inexplicable reason the director thought it would be a good idea to put J-Lo in the movie. If YOU were going to put J-Lo in a movie, you'd sure want her to be the hot love interest, right? I bet that's what J-Lo thought too when she signed the contract, but alas - she's not only NOT the love interest, her character is a study in How Not To Write A Role For A Woman, Or Actually Any Living Person.

J-Lo is a Realtor® and I had NO idea that Realtors® have super powers. But they do!

For instance, did you know a Realtor® can receive an email telling them that their Mazda CX-9 has been repossessed, but two days later they can have access to the very same Mazda CX-9 with absolutely no problem at all? Neither did I! Or did you know that Realtors® can access anyone's complete financial history, including date of birth, bank account number and balance, and complete credit card information? Well, they can!

I want to be a Realtor®!

Realtor® J-Lo tells Parker that she is divorced from a salesman who, it turns out, didn't OWN his Ferrari but RENTED it. What a cad! However, even though it turns out Parker's really beautiful Bentley convertible is RENTED, Realtor® J-Lo decides to throw caution to the wind and tries to seduce Parker, but he's given his heart to Nick Nolte's daughter so no dice. Won't Realtor® J-Lo ever learn?!? Therefore, Realtor® J-Lo decides the only thing to do is help Parker off the bad guys. Of course, Parker tells her EXPLICITLY to stay home while he finishes the job, but do you think Realtor® J-Lo is going to do that?!?

Oh, I almost forgot! Realtor® J-Lo lives with her mom, because Realtor® J-Lo is really, really down on her luck. Realtor® J-Lo's mom is a real piece of work. All she does is sit on her butt and watch soap operas. In fact, it turns out that she named Realtor® J-Lo and Realtor® J-Lo's sisters after soap opera characters.

Parker gets in this horrible fight with some bad guy from Chicago. Even though Parker crowns the bad guy with the lid from a toilet, the bad guy is not dead. He gets the drop on Parker (because Parker foolishly thinks he killed the bad guy. Didn't Parker watch "Halloween"????), they fight, Parker uses his hand as a pin cushion for the bad guy's knife, and eventually throws the bad guy off the balcony of his 30th floor room. Parker goes to the only place he can - the home of his Realtor®!

Realtor® J-Lo is a little freaked out by the bloodied and cut-open Parker, but it turns out that Mom isn't. Heck, although they don't actually tell us, it's pretty dang apparent that Mom was some sort of Mob Wife in a prior life! Realtor® J-Lo had NO IDEA. But Mom knows exactly what to do, and Parker immediately trusts Mom with his life. Yay Mom!

So after eating some soup and having his hand stitched back together by Nick Nolte's daughter (don't ask, she just showed up), Parker goes out to finish the job. There's only one thing Realtor® J-Lo can say about that, and it is:

"I can't let him go out there by himself and f%^& this up!"

Yes, that's EXACTLY what my Realtor® says all the time!

OK, let's wrap this up. The four bad guys steal $75 million in jewels from the estate of a Palm Beach dowager. They get home with the jewels, discover Realtor® J-Lo hiding outside and abduct her, and then Parker comes out from hiding inside their house and kills three of them. Realtor® J-Lo kills one when she finds a gun taped underneath a table by Parker, just in case someone should need it. Oh, and Parker had also broken the firing pins on all the bad guy's guns in an earlier recon trip, so the final gun battle is really funny. The bad guys' guns don't work, but Parker's do!

Later, Parker shows up in the office of the Chicago mob boss for who all the bad dudes worked, and he blows that guy away.

Then later, Realtor® J-Lo gets a package in the mail, and it's filled with $$$millions in cash, which is her share of the proceeds of the jewels that the bad guys stole, but Parker ended up with and fenced. For some reason, Realtor® J-Lo has no problem taking this money, even though it was stolen from her clients. Hey, Realtor® ethics might not be all they're cracked up to be!

Especially considering that the only suitor Realtor®J-Lo has the whole movie is a Palm Beach policeman.

In summation, this movie was a turkey. There's really no good reason to ever watch it, unless you like looking at a cool blue Bentley convertible for five minutes.

I give this movie only one stabbed hand out of a possible five stabbed hands.
