Steve Harvey just another tedious middle aged guy in an ill fitting suit

I'm tired of the likes of Steve Harvey giving me advice on women. "ladeez, treat your man like a king and he will treat you like a queen"

Oh fuck off you trite, tedious bastard, stop pandering to the stereotype that all black men are endlessly obsessed with ladeez and fucking.

Seriously, I have to admit that I listen to his morning show and I do like the 'Strawberry Letter' part. I can't believe the situations that some people put themselves in...and worse, that they ask a RADIO show for advice (airing out their dirty laundry in front of millions of listeners).

Could Harvey be wrong? Or has the obsession regressed over the years?

I've never understood why he is so immensely popular in the black community. I never thought he was funny at all. His radio show is annoying, he's left an ugly stain on The Family Feud and although I've never watched his talk show, from what I've heard, it's pretty dumb. I ain't mad at the brotha for doing well and raking in all that bread because rarely does it happen for a black man unless he's a rapper. But I think there are lots of others out there with far more talent who aren't being afforded such opportunities.

I feel like this too. But you wouldn't believe how many women who have fallen for his bullshit advice and spent much money on his books. They actually quote stuff from his book. rolleyes Now I did actually read the first one....most of it was stuff that I already knew and after reading the book, I didn't really "learn" anything new that he was supposed to be "teaching me" about men. shrug Now I just see that his real angle was to make mo'money, mo'money, mo'money. I went to see him live in stand up once a few years ago, he wasn't that funny, then at the end he went on this extra 30 minute long "testimony" crying about how when he was homeless and had nothing to what he has now, supposedly "appreciating" how far he has come...but it came off to me as one big act. shrug I haven't watched his talk show, nor have any desire to...though I'm kind of forced to watch family feud when I go visit my grandparents because they love that show. lol

Oh yeah. I forget about him hosting every BET Gospel Celebration over the past 5 or 6 years. Again, I can see them maybe letting him host one show, but let a Gospel artist or someone in that industry host every once in a while. After all, this is a GOSPEL show, not a Comedy show for crying out loud!!!

Honestly, I'm starting to liken him to the male version of Beyonce. He just takes advantage of every single opportunity to be seen and to prove to people how wonderful he is. ill

he's a shinning example of the fcc execs image of a (son of a coal miner) modern day man.

imo steve harvey is bufoonish, money hungry, with a cheesy grin, with little or no integrity, and seemingly not too bright (on the surface).

I've only heard a few of those because I listen to NPR in the morning...I have to wake gently so I don't like a lot of kee-keeing first thing in the morning.

But Steve on radio is really no worse than Rickey Smiley or J. Anthony Brown IMO. I haven't seen that much of him lately but I remember liking his sitcom and he was very good on the Kings Of Comedy tour several years ago.

Dude is unapologetically ol' skool and a lot of the disdain towards him is generational but like TP, he does have a huge following. I thought his book was fun reading but definitely ol' skool. lol

And I ain't even gonna hate on his hustle because the man gives back big time, especially focusing on young men and boys with his mentoring initiatives which he started at his own home with his own funds almost five years ago.

His initiative has expanded to five more cities and now has programs for girls too.

I don't find him tedious or ill groomed either.

Good old NPR! With the 6 hour time difference, I sometimes like to put together an NPR playlist to get my mornings off right. Since I'm 6 hours ahead I listen to U.S. morning drive shows online too, and it's 12 in the afternoon here, so they put some kick into my midday when I start feeling like I'm going to want a nap grandpa lol

I'm fine with Steve, pretty much for the same reasons you listed in your post, and I appreciate the work that he, or anyone does to help mentor young men. Not much more for me to add in that regard because I feel that work like that stands on it's own and speaks volumes for itself...but I do understand that (like with any public figure in entertainment), some people will love a person, some will detest them. That's the way-- of the world (insert my off-key warbling of Earf,Win, & Fire here whistle )...

I don't like him, either.Several months ago,our Quiet Storm R&B station replaced the regular morning host (a very well-liked guy) with The Steve Harvey Morning Show and listeners were pissed, with many saying they aren't gonna listen to the station anymore.I don't listen to that station either.I can't tolerate Steve's type of "humor".

Title of BobPaisleyPark thread should not have been altered/censored. Good grief. neutral Damn, what happen to folks speaking their mind and allowing others to call them out, if need be?

I don't find Mr. Harvey's particularly funny and I find his general manner to be obnoxious. He's not funny he is annoying. (IMO) Speaking of NPR, they profiled Mr. Harvey-I think last year-where he spoke of developing his "brand". What does that mean exactly? I'll assume he will endorse and push products, geared towards the African-American community. Though if my memory serves me correctly he stated his goals are to move beyond that demographic, as Bill Cosby had done.

As far as his stint as a "DJ" this is the trend for free radio. The sad thing is, all of these guys sound a like. People think Steve Dahl, Howard Stern pioneered "personality radio... for the lack of a better word. In my opinion people have confused being rude, engaging in bathroom humor, and trying to shock folks as funny. The comedians who came after Richard Pryor thought all the man did was stand up and cuss for 45 minutes. "DJ's" to me use to be some of the coolest folks going, now you have asswipes who didn't get laid until they were 25 and got their ass kicked everyday in school doing radio. The shows reflect that... losers the lot of them.

More power to Harvey, to those who like him and his brand of humor.
