Henry Hill, the mob figure who was a foot soldier in the Luchese crime family before turning state's witness and becoming an informant under the Witness Protection Program, has died from apparent natural causes. He was 69.

Mr. Hill was part of the Luchese crime family but was busted on drug trafficking charges in 1980. To avoid spending the rest of his life in prison, if not whacked by his own crime family, he turned state's witness and ratted out fellow crime lords who were eventually busted and sent to prison themselves. He was placed in the Witness Protection program in 1980 but was kicked out due to repeated drug violations. Towards the end of his life, however, he was living out in the open if somewhat anonymously.

His life story became the basis for the Martin Scorsese movie Goodfellas, which is considered one of the greatest mob movies ever made and is currently ranked at number 92 of the AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of All Time.

Of course his family did, before and after he ratted. I look at it like this, he grew up and wanted to become a gangster, he did, had everything he wanted, and was afraid of living a "normal life as a schmuck"...so what happened? He ended up living his last years as a schmuck. As with anyone else, sorry to see him pass, but what else can you say really?

Again, I don't feel sorry for him. He chose that lifestyle. If he had taken his medicine from his "family" (if that's what was really going to happen - he kept making the story bigger and bigger over the years) his real family would have been left alone. That's the way it works.

I mean SERIOUSLY! The guy hung out with movie stars for the last 25 years, became a minor celebrity himself and never really changed his ways. He was just a punk ass rat.
