Omar Amin kicked out of Barnes & Noble bookstore for shopping in the children's section alone

Arizona Man Claims Discrimination When Kicked Out Of Barnes & Noble For Browsing Children’s Books

A grandfather who was kicked out of a Barnes & Noble in Scottsdale, Ariz., says he was discriminated against for being a man.

Omar Amin, 73, was shopping for books for his grandchildren when a store manager asked him to leave the store and explained men weren’t allowed to shop alone in the children’s section, according to the Arizona Republic. A shopper had allegedly felt uneasy about Amin’s presence and reported him to employees.

Amin, who says he was on the phone when he was approached, maintains that he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

“There was no sign posted that said men are not allowed in the children’s book area,” he told MSNBC.

When the Arizona Republic contacted the company for comment, a representative said the worker “acted appropriately.”

Despite vouching for their employee, Barns & Noble has issued this apology:

…We should not have done so. It is not our policy to ask customers to leave any section of our stores without justification. We value Dr. Amin as a customer and look forward to welcoming him in any of our stores.

What WE want to know is, what kind of pervy, pedophile, freaks are living in Arizona that employees are worried about men in the children’s books section?!?! SMMFH

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Too late. As a single male who never plans on being married or having kids, who regularly shops at Barnes & Noble for my eight year old nephew, I find this indescribably reprehensible. disbelief

Further; I can't count the number of kids I've seen LEFT ALONE in a Barnes & Noble kids section while their parents or guardians went and looked for something else.

When are people going to start taking responsibility for their own lives and quit blaming everyone else for everything that goes wrong? If there was a parent or guardian actually paying attention to every child, as there SHOULD BE, it wouldn't matter how many single men were shopping in that section.

confused Fuckers.

This is insane. They have no right to do this. You don't just go around assuming every man you see is a pedophile. BTW I'm sure this topic is going into P&R lol

I know right? B&N is already humilated from this story. Why would anyone shop there because they told some gramps to get out? Old man profiling is as ridiculous as profiling for everyone else.

which is funny in itself, as if a doctor degree warrents any respect for an individuals morality! And I don't agree with the bookstore being that suspicious without any actual improper or illegal behavior.

I take my toddler to the library once a week. It is an awesome place, just wished they opened before 11am.

I guess they would if the county I lived in had more ppl that used their local libraries!

Yeah...I think the libraries frown upon wrapping up their books and giving them as gifts.

Here you go, Sweetheart - happy birthday! Make sure you get that book back by the due date, so Grandpa doesn't have to pay a fine.

It's funny how people wanna go to these fancy places and some of them close anyway because not that many people get in. lol A library is much easier to maintain. nod

B&N is a bit snobby or rather they try to give an image of being uppercrust and sophisticated. When I've gone there I've only ever seen married women with aerosoles and coach bags letting their kids run rampant or I've seen pot head teens on IPads not reading a gat damn thing.

I do love the astrology section and the pastries though.

I've never had any kind of a vibe from Barnes & Noble other than that of them being a bookstore. There's been a lot of bookstores in the Bay Area over the years, and although there aren't nearly as many as there used to be, they pretty much all have the same vibe. Half the employees don't care, the other half think they know more than you because they work in a bookstore. shrug

However, as I mentioned, there aren't as many bookstores as there used to be. In fact, like record stores, they're slowly disappearing. So in that context, Barnes & Noble actually matters. I want to be able to walk into a bookstore and touch real books. I don't want some moronic asstard assuming I'm a pedophile because I buy books as gifts for my neice and nephews. confused
