A black actress(the MOST undesirable employee that Hollywood ever had to "deal" with, and still gets looked at with obvious contempt) in a primetime TV show, hired by somebody who was courageous enough to ignore the "brown paper bag" unspoken rule(OH YES! I'm taking it there), as a CO-LEAD, in one of the most famous TV shows at that time, probably THEE ONLY time she was ever exposed to mainstream status which could've opened doors for her.
And what happens? She got fired for speaking out when a bunch of young shit balls didn't show professionism, while the rest of the cast had to suck it up because they didn't wanna mess with their paper, understandably.
Bitter? Imagine being fired from one of the most prosperous jobs you've scrapped a lifetime to earn, ONLY to get the pink slips because a bunch of nitwits - who, lets face it, compared to her are outsiders to the profession - didn't give a damn enough to show respect to the work environment. Lets see how easy it is to tell your own ass to "get over it".
Ya'll are passing judgement for the hell of it.
But that's life. That even happens on 9 to 5's every day. What can you do? Sure it's upsetting and I would think to expect to be upset, but for nearly 20 years? Being bitter and angry over something that happened years ago is just hurting herself at this point. According to that TVOne show, she apparently rose above it doing the things that fulfill her and make her happy. And surely, yes, it was up to her to participate in the reunion or not, which obviously she chose not to, but why release a statement on ripping the whole reunion event to shreds? It was just very unnecessary IMO and paints her out to be that very person that is being said about her, one with a bad attitude.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

While I don't condone her statement about the reunion, and I can't stand Will Smith's ass, I also can't have a say on how she should feel regarding her untimely departure from the show. How can I? Its her OWN experience, how she deals with its aftermath is entirely up to her, and it would've been presumptuous to expect her to react a certain - just because its supposedly the norm.
Yeah, it happens to the 9 and 5 life, but guess what? You'd be surprised by how some people revere a job they once had, and you'll see how visible the pain they display when they depart from it. My uncle was laid off from a software firm agter it went bankrupt that ddn't pay worth a damn 15 years ago, he upgraded his life eversince, but he still talks about it like he lost a loved one.
Some people just don't have the "its just a job" mentality.
Did anyone here watch her life after on TVone? Can't blame her.
I watched it and for the life of me i dont understand why she's still holding on to this anger..
I still don’t like people who did me wrong years ago lol. Just hopefully will matured since then he didn’t come off well at all. He later admitted that he should have never got rid of her.

I have more sympathy for people nowadays who are faced with the prospect of losing jobs they have worked for many years in order to feed themselves and their families, like my cousin who has worked at the same factory for 33 years and is now worried about losing his job AND the pension he worked so hard for.

Right. There's bigger things to worry. Sure it's hard to see what happened to Janet but if she was so over it and shit, why trash someone's reunion? It just sounds like someone's still bitter. But it is what it is.

I agree with this %100 ! It's not like they were working at a 7-11 and he got her fired, this was major and I can honestly see her side of it. I don't think I would be all lovey dovey with Will Smith either. This was TOTALLY a 'Good Times' situation with the exception of respect that was given to Esther.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Yeah, some people never get over their bitterness stuff that happened decades ago--just ask some of my family members!

Yeah but even I can understand the bitterness you know? But I can never hold grudges lol

There's no point in holding grudges that long. I don't really see any purpose in re-airing dirty laundry from two decades ago--it just makes the person doing it look small and petty.

'Fresh Prince' StarRIPS WILL SMITHI'll Never Reunite w/ that 'A**hole'
The woman who played the original Aunt Viv on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" says there's a damn good reason she wasn't at a recent reunion dinner with the rest of the Banks family -- she HATES Will Smith.
15 years after the show went off the air ... Janet Hubert tells TMZ she's still upset with the way she was fired from the show ... and blames the whole thing on Smith himself.
"There will never be a reunion ... as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith," Hubert said.
She adds, "He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn't know the word."
Hubert has said in the past she believes Smith is to blame for her departure in the middle of the show's run -- claiming he turned on her because she wouldn't kiss his butt.
But Smith refuted the claims after Hubert left the show in 1993 -- telling an Atlanta radio station Hubert simply had a bad attitude which played a major role in her demise.
Smith told the radio station, "[Hubert] said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.' No matter what, to her I'm just the AntiChrist."
We called Smith for comment -- so far, no response.
happened almost two decades ago...shes like an alarm clock that wont shutup....you might try to press the snooze button but she will whine on your ass again 5 min later
Both sides were wrong honestly though and it's sad neither side got to reconcile any difference it seems.
It's true but I just thought that was cold like you was saying earlier. Just because he was cool with the other cast doesn't mean that he didn't have a different side to others

Exactly. I mean you gonna go on a radio station and talk shit? No wonder Janet ain't let that shit go. She ain't let them forget about 1993.

Well the reason they gave Esther that respect is because Good Times was suppose to be her show. It was a spin off of "Maude". So usually when a character(JJ) becomes more popular than the "suppose" star it becomes a problem. Same with Jackee on "227" her character became more popular than Marla gibbs character and it was coldness from Marla.
Janet was fired because she was too outspoken & wanted a raise. Plus they lowered her role to a bit part and she was very vocal about not accepting that. Then she held out for a raise and they replaced her. Yes I'm sure it didn't help when Will went on the radio afterwards. But that is show business. Its a tough business. It was Will's show. The show must go on. "Fresh Prince" did lose credibility after she was let go. She was a damn good actress. Anywho Will still became a superstar. I don't know why everyone is starting to pick on him this year. He is a brilliant & talented charismatic dude. Nothing is going to stop him. Even Aunt Viv..

Exactly. Not mentioning she got blacklisted and it was hard for her to get work after it was all said and done. Her being angry and resentful still is understandable.
Before the holidays a photo of the cast of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as they reunited for a Cast dinner, and sure enough a video surfaced as to why “Aunt Viv” wasn’t apart of that photo. Janet Hubbard who recently appeared on TVOne’s “Life After”, was said that she “Was Funny..but was Coo Coo” says Ribeiro.
And the drama continues..................... But I love the unknown behind the scenes stories that Alfonso tells.
