Dude, I absolutely agree. But it remains... firearms are completely illegal here for any use. Even self defence. You can't go to a store and buy one. You can buy them in the hood of course.... but if the cops come to your house for any reason and see it, you'll get arrested, even if you've done nothing wrong, on posession of a deadly and illegal weapon charge.

I woulda BEEN had one if that weren't the case.

Luckily that also means it's unlikely an assailant will have one, either. I will look into getting some kind of taser. I'm not so worried about being attacked when I'm here as I'm sure I could defend myself reasonably well. I'm worried about any potential opportunists finding out that I might not be home.

Anyway, the locksmith just left and now I have an extra level of security, so that's good. I feel a bit more at ease now and am now going to look into some sort of monitoring system.

I don't know what they have over there...but here we have simple self-contained systems designed for apartment-dwellers. There's definitely something to be said about having a security system and the peace of mind that accompanies it.

Something like this would suit your needs;

A simple desktop control panel, motion sensor and door/window sensors.

Check with your local alarm companies, here we offer "free installs" in exchange for a 5-year monitoring agreement. But shop around and get at least 3 estimates...and read the fine print.

thumbs up!

eek really? stalking IS illegal there right? (but people still do it)

anyway...not a laughing matter. I hope who ever it is just stops all together...but yes, a taser wouldn't be a bad idea....or mace...or a knife. SOMETHING! good luck!

Criminals don't abide by the law.

If it's not someone playing a sick joke on you, I think it's someone who would be more likely to do you some harm rather than rob your apartment. Thieves don't warn people or give them clues that they are going to rob them. Their goal is not to scare you. Their goal is to get what they want when you're not home and hope that you have absolutely no idea who did it.

Since the person is trying to scare you, if he's actually serious, he's out to do some harm to you, not to rob you.

That's a very good point Andy and makes me glad I placed a big knife near my door. That's true that if someone wanted to rob me it wouldn't make sense for them to let me know that they know where I'm at.

Unfortunately this dumb ass country I live in fails again, as I've just found out that switchblades, tasers, stun guns and pepper spray are also illegal here. God dammit!

You definatly need to report all of your findings to the police, so it's all documented. This person is probably reading this and is now shitting them selves.I would suggest a nice fuckoff baseball bat for unwelcome guests.

If they make contact again, pay your local thug to frighten the fuck out of him/her fishslap ....and if all else fails you could resort to blasting out your latest album on repeat... wink

That would scare the hell out of me. In the past, I have thought that guns should be illegal but people do have very good points that criminals are always going to find ways to get guns which leaves you totally helpless since the police refuse to do anything until damn near an attempt has been made on your life (at least, that's the way it is here) and then it's too late because you would have to be lucky enough to actually survive the attack to report it.

I've never owned a gun, nor have I ever fired one but at least I have the option of buying a gun if I were in your situation. But all those other weapons being illegal such as even down to pepper spray, that's totally ridiculous. Get yourself a big ass stick or a baseball bat to keep near you in your apartment. It's no match for a gun but at least it's something. But my main goal would be getting his ass arrested if at all possible and Genesia had excellent tips if they are valid in your country. That lush is pretty smart between her drinks. lol

Here's my advice, a bit radical but here's anyway

buy this:

make sure your windows/door are extra-secure

and then there are 2 options:

a-the guy is just having a good time tryin' to scare you, but he will grow tired of it, and that's all

b-this is a "dangerous" guy who will try to attack you, probably in the street, and then you will have to use the stungun and call the police. No big deal

I hate hearing about people in Militant's situation. Believing that enacting such laws will keep criminals from obtaining them is ridiculous. The citizen is the one that ends up losing as they are the ones that will be on the bad end of every banned item.

I also don't like the idea of any government being the only one in the country that is allowed to have weapons. Yeah, history has totally proven that we should trust such governments.

I had a friend who was asked out by a seemingly normal guy. They went out on a date, something about him seemed off, so she declined his offer of a second date. This guy then started hanging around in her street, watching her parents house. One day he confronted her and she (having quite a temper) got mad at him and told him to leave her the fuck alone, and he HIT her eek

She reported it to the police, he got a restraining order, at work she was (and still is) escorted to and from her car by security guards each day.

One day he approached her again and she woke up in a house and it was dark. He had kidnapped her and driven with her 1.5 hours away to a little holiday destination. The guy was completely psychotic, believing they were having a nice holiday together. She didn't know where they were even, which suburb, or town ANYTHING. She kept her head and played along with him. Told him she was glad they could be together finally. He softened, visibly relaxed and let her go to the bathroom. She climbed out the window and ran to a petrol station and called the police.

This girl is lucky to be alive, BUT the guy is still at large confused

You've been given good advice already, all I can say it I'm sorry this is happening to you. An ex of mine got a bit mental when I broke up with him, called at all hours and hung up or left mad messages if I didn't pick up (which I didn't after the 2 first times), sent weird emails etc. I was even worrying that he'd hop the Atlantic and come look me up, but thankfully a friend of mine talked to him and put him in a better frame of mind. evillol I hope nothing comes of this for you. rose

Nowadays they take these threats very seriously. I mean, they even arrested a middle school girl for sending death threats to George Bush on facebook. Which is crazy, but trust me, these are taken very seriously especially if they know where you live. Don't let this person control you and move you out of your apartment. Take matters into your own hands. Just report it because you never know what could happen.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who got the email about wasp spray. Get a can & keep it handy. This jerk breaks in while you're home aim straight for the eyes. Wasp spray will spray long distance so they don't get a chance to get close.

Might buy you time to get away. Just make sure you don't panic & spray yourself.

So yesterday I got a message sent to me on a popular social network from a guy I've never met and have no idea who it is, nobody I know seems to know them either.

I won't repeat exactly what the message said, it wasn't directly malicious but from the content of the message, not only does the person know where I live, but they know the exact apartment too. Basically, they made reference to something very particular on my windowsill.

I'm a little bit freaked out. I ignored the message but made a note of the persons information. I'm pretty private and I don't let many people know where I live. Because the guy obviously knows who I am, that means he could easily find out when I'm not home (like if I'm on tour with the band etc).

Now I'm not sure what to do next. I'm thinking about calling out a locksmith to put locks on the inside doors of my apartment, I'm going to get an intruder alert system.... or I'm wondering if I should just call the landlord and try and move into a different apartment... I live pretty minimally so I could probably get all my stuff moved within a day......but I'm also wondering if that might be an overreaction...

I'm pretty worried. What do you guys think I should do?

Good idea. I think that's what Farrah Fawcett used in the movie "Extremities" and she messed that rapist up!
