How did "bastard" become an insult anyway?

I'm offended by the term bastard as an insult.

Some of us don't have fathers.

Just because you don't have a father doesn't mean your an asshole.

I thought it was just someone whose parents are not married, not necessarily an adulterer. That certainly does not make the kid bad.

But yeah I guess I understand it is kind of like insulting the virtue of someone's mother, using very old fashioned values

I usually call most of my gadgets a bastard.

At least once a week my phone and my pc gets shouted at.

I find it much more effective to add "fucking" into the shout too.

there was a stupid little blond 20 something texting cunt in the car ahead of me yesterday, (she was waaaay too busy texting to notice that the light had turned green, stupid cunt) and one texting bastard guy doing the same thing behind me as well.

seeing as how i handle motor vehicle accident injury claims at work and know that 85-90% of accidents today are ones where someone 'rear ends' another person 'cause these days folks are texting, not paying attention and following too closely, i do resent the fuck out of moron behavior like this in rush hour traffic.

I do.

But I've never ever even had a slight slip in concentration or anything. But I don't overtake or do other "special" stuff while on the phone. I just drive and talk. Actually, the following a conversation is not the biggest problem; it's rather that you can't use both hands. In fact, talking to someone sitting next to you or even listening to an album you just bought is just as distracting as talking on the phone. Either you can do you, or you can't. When something happens it's too late, though, of course.
