I see a lot of nerdy guys with long hair and it's not trimmed, split ends, just all bushy and damaged behind the elastic band, and I think that looks terrible. But it looks fine on Johnny Depp & Jim Morrison

I like long hair on women, but some women wear it short and look super hot. It is not a dealbreaker by itself, it's just one small part of what makes a complete person either attractive or unattractive to others.

Not at all trying to avoid the question, but what I prefer is for her to find something she likes without bowing to the pressures of trying to be "hip", or "in", and most importantly, don't complain about how shitty it looks all day everyday. I dumped someone once because they spent hours in the bathroom working on their hair and makeup and then complained about how much they hated it all the dame time. Fuck that. I got shit to do and I want to do it with you without sitting around WAITING to hear you complain about the same shit over and over. Fix that mess and move on already.

I prefer a woman with either long hair (straight, curly, whatever) or a thick bush on her head. Otherwise, I'm not as strict about it as I used to be during the teen years.
