Thats the iconic building. But the damage elsewhere is much much worse.

Every window at work blew out, a wall fall over, water and mud a foot deep came out of the solid concrete floor, evry room in the building is ruined, looks like a bomb has gone off.

It tipped a three ton footlift on to its side. Its a miricle nobody at my work was killed, I cant imagine what the rest of the city is like. It took me 3 hours to drive home, normally ity takes 20 minutes.

they are comparing the devastation to the Cathedral to our Opera House... (for us who arent aware of Christchurchs architecture/history)

I cant get in touch with my wife, she was in one of the big hotels that has been badly hit.

in the floods here there were services where people could report in that they were okay...

I think it was the Christchurch mayor who recommended you text people instead of calling them.

I have tried texting and her phone rings but it just rings out to voice mail. I cant contact any of her work colleagues either.
