The toll now is 123, and its expected to at least double, this will surpass the toll of the 1931 Napier earthquake our worst ever, in which 256 died it was magnitude 7.5. Rebuilding will cost at least $16 billion New Zealand dollars (12 -12.5 Billion USD). The worst loss besides all the people and the living victims who have to put up with a patchy infrastructure, no money or clean water, is Christchurch's unique late 19th and early 20th century architecture. Most of our Gothic revival buildings are destroyed and this includes the 1864 -1904 Cathedral, the Romanesque Catholic Cathedral (My home church, my parents, grandparents and great grandparents got married there) The worst casualty is the 1865 debating chamber a gothic masterpiece built in 1865 that was when Chch was only 15 years old. The 1864 Methodist church (The oldest surviving stone building is gone). It will be very hard to replace this heritage.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Present and accounted for, been busy with fundraising, I am busy today with a bake sale at work, we have sent some of our Store Managers to Christchurch to give their management a break to deal wih their own families. I am also involved with the SPCA, there a lot of displaced pets that are traumatised and need foster homes while owners are tracked down. Many Christchurch residents have left the area and left their pets behind.

The death toll is 160 today, expected to be around 240. The Cathedral search is still on today. Massive dust storm yesterday hindered progress and more aftershocks through the night.

everything is a mess

there is sand, dirt and shit for miles

i work just around the corner from that ITM

we are lifting the roof up to rebuild the walls to get the ovens going again for the bakery

it's fair to say most people are over it
