the movie...anyone see it? and what did you think of it?
I just saw it saturday night...I was very disappointed sad
it stunk!

This movie is different, made by the genius of M. Night Shyamalan, an Indian guy, who also created 'Sixth Sense' and 'Unbreakable'. This film is not exactly a excitable film, but it is meant 2 be a tale of terror. I mean i was really scared when i saw it, not exactly shock-horror, but when u c the alien's and what their agendas are, it does feel gruesome and disturbin. I really liked the element of fate, like there was a good reason y Mel Gibsons wife died, 2 save them.

Yes I know who made it and I really loved the 6th sense...that's part of the reason I was so let down by this film. I jumped a few times, well..maybe just twice, during the movie, hardly a tale of terror. Ahh..the wife, yes, so why if she had the knowledge, wouldn't she say, pour water on them, or spray water...not "swing away"?? huh? lol

yeah...the whole "there are no coincidences" was weak and unnecessary
the aliens! psh! they have the technology to fly their funky asses to earth to take us over..but they can't get through wood? and water kills them?!?! and they are defeated in ONE DAY! c'mon! that's lame!

EXACTLY!

That's what bothered me, too. Here are these highly intelligent beings who can travel across the universe, turn their spacecraft invisible - yet they can't bash through some weak boards nailed up, and they turn around and run scared because of WATER!? If they're so intelligent, you think they would've known better than to come land on a planet that is COVERED IN WATER, WHERE WATER FALLS FROM THE SKY *ALL THE TIME* and not bring along any sort of protective gear or protection of any sort. If you were in an army that was going to invade and take over some country, and your commanding officer told you "Oh, by they way, this country is covered in an acid that can kill you, the people there have unlimited access to the acid that they can throw at you, plus this acid falls from the sky on a regular basis there. You won't have any means of protection from the acid, however..but I think we have a great chance of taking over anyway! LET'S GO!" would you do it???! rolleyes

LAME

I didn't dislike this movie and I did like Joeohsoidquinorhoweveryouspellit Phoenix a *lot*, he did a really great job..but I agree with you - I feel this movie had wasted potential and the plot had a few too many weak points.

worship amen! ABSOLUTLY CORRECT!! (well except for the didn't dislike it part..but everything else) smile

Well, I personally thought the film was an incredible commentary on faith, and the interweaving of God's design for our lives. I don't think it was about predestination, since Mel Gibson's character had the free will to reject God's grand design. That was what the film was all about, accepting that the universe has a design, and trusting that God's plans are greater than your own. You still have the free will to accept or reject this, its up to you.

As for the whole water aspect of the story, there was certainly an implication that the aliens seemed capable of controlling the weather, since it did not rain at all on the planet during the "invasion". A point was made that the aliens did seem to avoid any areas with heavy concentraions of water. The aliens were not here to "take over" the planet, but rather to quickly harvest humans as a food source, so they weren't planning on sticking around. As for the whole thing in the pantry, perhaps the aliens are so dependant on their advanced technology, that they've become rather physically week? This is actually a point that has been speculated upon by UFOlogist in the past, so that would make sense. Any race that scientifically advanced and dependant on their technology might become physically scrawny. Take one away from his advanced tech, and he becomes helpless. In the end, the aliens took off rather suddenly when they realized that the humans had discovered their weakness, and that they had a near-endless supply of the weapon to repel them (this implied to me that the "invasion" was an act of desperation for the aliens, that they were perhaps starving to death, and this was a last, desperate act for them). Ultimately, this is all pointless, since the film is REALLY about the power of faith.

I don't have a problem with anyone disliking this movie, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't think that you have to be smoking crack to disagree with me. It just might not have floated your boat. Personally, I think Shamylan's best film is Unbreakable, and I catch a whole lot of flack for that one!

it scurred the ish outta me...seriously...

i thought the dialog was a little 'off' or something at the beginning...but overall it was one of the creepiest movies i've seen in awhile...

i like the way it relied more on your imagination that on special effects...that is a lot scarier to me than full on gore...(there is something to be said for full on gore too, tho..wink)

oh yeh..and i love joaquin phoenix...
