Coming to America!!! hands down

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Coming to America is probably a better movie.

Harlem Nights has more outrageous, quotable moments.

I got a girl whose pussy is so good, if you throw it up in the air it'll turn into sunshine!

i love when the guy phones home after meeing Sunshine: 'hey kid, tell your mother i ain't never coming home no more. take it easy'

Both fun. I've probably seen Coming to America more times, but seeing Richard Pryor shine in one of his last movie roles gives Harlem Nights the winning edge, IMHO.

Both of those movies are amusing period pieces that looked dated even when they came out. Soul Glo in 1988 (By that stage it was all fades) and Eddie couldn't curse in that movie as Prince Akeem but did in every other role. Favourite lines, those girls in the club

"This is the first date we have had since the doctor separated us" "My names Peaches, I am the best all the DJ's want to feel my breasts", And at the start "The Royal Penis is clean" this movie overall was pretty self indulgent and silly, Jaffe Jopa or whatever his name was was wearing all these badges around neck and the castle was borrowed from Disney land. Sexual Chocolate was terrible. Score 5/10

Harlem Nights is better, its funnier having the comic genius of Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy and the overuse of the mf word, thats how I remember it, I am sure he said "Why would she go out with that big fat rank, stinky ass fat 12 sandwich eatin muthafucka" and the line at the start to the gambler "You all need some teeth" and "You snaggletooth muthafucka" and the bullshit scene where Arsenio and chums shoot hundred of bullets and miss him yet Eddie fires three shots and all are direct hits. Funny ifd crude and stereotypical 7/10

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

nod Yeah, he's a character actor who's been in a lot of black films. You know his face but not his name. I just saw him the other day in Hoodlum. He was the dude that owned the ice cream shop and usually made Bumpy's "split" I LOVE that movie.

It's funny that Laurence Fishburne played Bumpy Johnson in two different movies almost 20 years apart. He was also Bumpy in Coppola's Cotton Club. They shoulda just had him play Bumpy in American Gangster to call it a trifecta. Instead they had Prince's Daddy, who was also in Hoodlum with Larry. Ol' Larry been around forever, he should have his own Six Degrees of Separation game. nod

nod Girl yes, that guy has been in a lot of movies. And usually I'm good with actors' names but I can't seem to remember his at the moment doh!

That's very true about Laurence...they should've had him play Bumpy in American Gangster. I guess its the same case as Angela Bassett playing Betty Shabazz in both "Malcolm X" and in "Panther".

hmmm Chile you could be right. I may be mixing up my nameless character actors. I'm older ya know. lol

Okay, Lloyd the Chemist in Boomerang is an actor named Leonard Jackson and (Hershe's right) he was Pa in Color Purple. Now, I gotta wait til Hoodlum comes on again to figure out who the ice cream store dude is cuz I won't be able to rest til I do. pissed
