PUHLEASE MY ASS! This climate and these conditions? As if this type stuff only started happening yesterday? Give me a break. People will and always have been shit to one another in the presence of AND in the absence of religion! It is the human condition, sadly, for people to separate themselves rather than come together. Damn, even the bible has murder over jealousy in the book of genesis. This blaming religion for man's woes is complete and utter bullshit. You actually believe that if there were no religions in the world that everybody would be all holding hands singing cumbaya and walking through a field of daisies? If that's what you believe then I have a bridge in san fransico that I will gladly sell you.

I DON'T believe it but it is time to let it stand naked in its own hatred instead of masking itself in the robes of righteousness. Christianity has blood on its hands. Literally. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

And what do you think is happening in other countries? Protests? Nope...murder or imprisonment is what's happening to somebody like Tyler and NOT at the hands of Christians.
All those circumstances have to be present to prove that Christian teachings played a role in Tyler's suicide to prove that Christianity is the reason why he killed himself. By blaming Christianity you have in one fell swoop absolved the two fucktards that video taped him. That is why he killed himself. Do you realize that those two fucktards could potentially get off scott free all because the argument has been swayed from "bullying and invasion of privacy" to "christian teachings"? Christian teachings (which vary among Christians btw) are part of freedom of religion and therefore protected under the constitution - harassment and invasion of privacy are not. Tyler apparently killed himself because his class attempted to embarass and humiliate him or even profit from his private moments. They are the culprits and like I said, they probably have done this before to others.

You agree with me. Why are you arguing? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Don't smile at me while I'm tryna be mad.
I'm arguing because bullying is a very serious issue IMO and it is something that is inherent in our species...not because of Christianity or religion in general.
Remeber the news story about that father who got on the bus to confront the bratz making fun of his daughter who had cerebral palsy? If he hand't intervened his daughter may very well have felt suicidal.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Who cares about other countries? I'm talking about homophobia right here in the U.S. Every protest sign mentions "God", "Jesus", "Sin" or some other Bible reference.
Everyone agrees that the main reason why this student killed himself is because his private life was exposed when he did not want it to be. Christianity didn't expose him, two other students did, true. The real question though is why was he so ashamed that he was driven to suicide? Maybe his parents are Christian? Maybe he's well aware of all the anti-gay protests covered by the media and anti-gay marriage laws being passed and polls stating a majority of people in this Christian nation are against gays having equal rights? Christianity did not kill Tyler, but you have to have your head in the sand to think it played no role at all.

I never said I didn't care about homosexuals suffering in other countries. I'm saying homophobia is big here because of Christian teachings. That's what this whole topic is about.
And did you read the letter to Dan Savage? It didn't say "praise God, gays are sinners" either, but there sure was a lot of anti-gay bias in that person's words.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well...I dunno about that. I've always said people use other things (family, politics, religion) as an excuse and a validator for how they naturally feel.
I read the letter. I wouldn't call that anti-gay bias to the degree that you're trying to make it. Some people just don't approve of certain things...that's not the same as hating someone so much that you would wish them harm or dead. That letter didn't sound dangerous or hateful to me....i doubt that person would do what Tyler's classmates did. Didn't appear that the author wanted to hurt anybody but rather didn't want to be lumped in the same category as those that do. Just like some muslims don't want to be lumped with those that go around preaching holy war.

Dan took the time to explain himself. I would have told that lady: "Go fuck yourself" and left it at that.
Some Christians make a huge deal about homosexuality. In one breath they say "we are not prefect" and in the next breath, they lead anti-gay marches. Are there adultery marches? Stealing marches? Pre-marital sex marches?
I continue to be turned off to religion and religious people due to the sheer hypocracy. I don't know a single gay person who does not know what the bible says about homosexuality adn does not know what Christians think about it. Instead of loving gay people, some of these people bash them over the head with how wrong their "lifestyle choice". That ain't love and if that's what God is, I want no part of it.
Some religious people and some other people who need to mind their own fucking business are responsible for one too many deaths.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's a shame....this kid is dead cuz he was being exploited by some fuck ups who've probably done this before to other students and people want to turn it into an opportunity to bash on an entire faith. So let's say Tyler was a girl and two male classmates secretly filmed her? Would it still the fault of Christianity? I mean why not...nobody who wasn't Christian ever did anything bad right?
The two fucktards who exploited this dude are to blame . Not fair to implicate his parents (we don't know them), nor the school (they're not there to babysit adults) nor Christianity (which has followers from all walks of life including gays).
Bullies have no allegiance to anyone nor anything except themselves. Those two fucks who taped Tyler were bullies plain and simple.

Overall, homophobia is accepted in this society. It is perfectly acceptable to make fun of gays, they are forced to live closeted lives and they do not have the freedom to tell the world who they are in the military.
It is my opinion, that yes, this is the fault of not just Christianity but religion as a whole.

It's dangerous and hateful precisely BECAUSE otherwise rational people don't see it as a threat. If she's guilty of what she's being accused of, Molly Wei is by no means a 'wonderful woman' no matter how her lawyer spins it. Unfortunately for her, participating in invading someone's privacy (which subsequently causes that person to commit suicide) kinda trumps that bright future. In spades.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How do you know what that person would vote for? Maybe they don't vote at all. I thought the person was female.
Anyway....blah fucking blah is right. Climate of hatred please! America was founded on a climate of hatred. Euro trash tryna free themselves from a hateful European monarchy. Yeah I said it! People suck what else is new?
In the U.S. it is perfectly acceptable to make fun of gays, fat people, disabled people, the elderly, girls, southerners, black people, the wealthy, the poor, inner city folk, immigrants and so on and so forth.....that's why nearly every person can find themselves represented by an organization designed to combat harassment or ridicule or discrimination of their said group. Western society is supposed to be so great but yet we have all these social ills. That's not the fault of Christianity nor religion, it's the fault of humanity in that as a species we generally suck.
No other species on this planet is as destructive to itself as humans are to each other - bottom line. There is not one thing on this earth that people have not fought over, exploited or used to manipulate one another. We've been doing so long before any established religion ever existed. Again...it's sad and pathetic to think that folk can't keep things in perspective and realize that these bratz are the reason why the dude offed himself. There's hardly anything more humiliating than being sexually exploited. I don't care who you are in the world....that would send anybody over the edge espcially at that age.

Tyler's parents (in case anyone thought about them even a little):
The parents of Rutgers suicide victim Tyler Clementi say they hope his death fosters the very things he was denied by his tormentors: compassion, empathy and human dignity. Jane and Joe Clementi have been in seclusion since cops confirmed their 18-year-old son jumped off the George Washington Bridge, humiliated that his roommate splashed a gay hookup over the Internet. They issued a brief statement yesterday thanking people across the country for support and expressing their wish that the talented musician's death not be in vain. "Regardless of legal outcomes, our hope is that our family's personal tragedy will serve as a call for compassion, empathy and human dignity," they said.

Don't know why but i get the sense that he and his family were quiet, studious types that lived simple lives and believed in the goodness of people. I don't think he was prepared for bullies & pranksters. Some people just don't expect this kind of stuff and think it's something that happens to "other" people. Rutgers is a good school, I bet his parents never thought harassment or bullying was an issue...especially past high school age.
I think those tards have low self-esteem too. Why else would you do that except to make yourself seem popular?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
True. It just sickens me that people have to do that to feel good about themselves and then make other people feel bad. It's a society thing to me and I hate it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly! Been saying that. We see this type of manipulation and exploitation and bullying/harassment across cultural/religous groups starting with "tweens" (10-12year olds) and carrying over to college age. I kind of think it's inbred in us like some weird alpha male/female thing whereby people are trying to establish their status within a group by stepping on others. Sometimes the bullies are also the "popular" kids. Ever notice that? Maybe these dumb asses picked on Tyler to make themselves seem cool. Maybe they were a-holes that nobody gave two shits about. Somebody is gonna give a shit now alright. They have all the attention they could possibly never want.

And Ms. Nevermind - your argument that Christianity isn't necessarily an influence in these suicides isn't holding water. It must be a coincidence that this took place just a couple of days before. One of the most infuriating things about this is that many 'Christians' who wield Christianity to protest gay rights probably have never even stepped foot in a church nor have actually read the Bible they say they're defending. And familial and political reasons for anti-gay bias stem from religion. Why are most Republicans against gay marriage? Because it's not the Christian way.
The letter writer states, "As someone who loves the Lord and does not support gay marriage..." which means they do not want equal rights for gays. That's anti-gay bias.

Oh it's holding water alright but some folk just want to blame Christianity for every dang thing under the sun and that is what's not holding water. Have you ever heard of copycat incidents? I think that these poor folk (kid and adult) are killing themselves because they see it as a way out just like Tyler. Remember that crazy asian dude that shot up his college campus? that same week there were several more murder/suicide attempts. He claimed in his manifesto that he was being discriminated against among other things. People were trying to blame that on racism and Christianity too.
People need to get off the jock of Christianity because it is not the only religion out there being biased and unfair nor are all it's members holding the same views toward gays. And like I said, such an attitude does a great disservice to all the gay christians out there who have no problem with their faith and work to change views of the ignorant (many who use Christianity as a cover/crutch for the attitudes they've always held). We agree....many of the folk calling themselves christians probably never read the bible or stepped foot in a church. That's why you have to look at the PERSON not the club they claim to belong to.
