Third Batman Movie Titled The Dark Knight Rises

October 27, 2010

Christopher Nolan let out a big (not really) clue to the third Batman film when he revealed its title to be The Dark Knight Rises.

Of course, popular speculation had the film to be titled Gotham, but fanboys around the globe rejoiced just to have something official be announced.

Nolan didn’t reveal anything else about the film, except that the villain will not be The Riddler... which, once again, popular fanboy speculation got wrong. Again, Nolan seems to be going against popular opinion and considering he made the first two movies, the man might seem to know what he is doing.

Perhaps the villain will be Killer Croc? That's the next popular villain around the interwebs. Also, the film won't be shot in 3D, but will be shot like The Dark Knight with emphasis on IMAX and high definition.

Of course, guessing who the villain will be and any plot points is nothing more than almost pointless. Judging from the downer ending The Dark Knight and the new film's title, perhaps this will see Batman coming into a favorable light in Gotham’s eyes? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Interesting bit of title trivia for you: other comic book movies with “rise” in the title are G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Both of those films were fantastic (not really) and very well received (not really). Perhaps the inclusion of the word “rise” is a kiss of a death? But to be linguistically fair, this Batman film is called The Dark Knight RISES, so perhaps the addition of the “s” will take away any stigma. Hey, it worked for Aliens.

Killer Croc would be awesome.

Thing is, Batman's gallery is vast.

I'd just as soon see them do Zsasz. They even mentioned him in the first one.

Batman Begins and now The Dark Knight Rises? Seems like the same title with a different wording. shrug

Sounds like a porn title.

But whatever it's called, I can't wait to see it.

Killer Croc could be cool, especially if they make him HUGE.

I'd like to see Clayface or a really well written Harley Quinn.

As they are auditioning for a 'female lead' it's probably Catwoman with Tom Hardy as Hush, Black Mask if Bane

Although Mr Zsasz was hinted at more than once in Batman Begins and I could see hardy playing him...put he's not very special

Zsasz could be special. Just have to do him as devious and horrific as possible. He's at least Patrick Bateman hideous.

I remember him killing a little girl and making his commemorative cut in his eyelid "so the scab will scratch my eye everytime I blink and remind me..."

I just can see him being 'special' in a quirky Villan way lime scarecrow and joker...this is the final film in this series so I'm not sure they take a step back towards regular psycho. I wouldnt be surprised if they mixed up Hushs friendship with Bruce and Black Mask character...I found see Hardy pulling that off and the story ending with the death of Black Mask and Wayne realising who he was and hanging up his cape in a will he/won't he be batman in the future end

If the movie doesn't feature Catwoman, I'll be gravely disappointed confused The Riddler being neglected is bad news already confused , he's like the fourth or even the third best villian of the Batman universe ... neutral confused hmph!

The title sounds formulaic, obvious and safe confused ... I hope Nolan knows what he's doing...

I don't know who will be the new main villian; if Catwoman finally appears I'm sure she won't be treated as a villian, but as an unlikely partner/anti-heroine, and I doubt Nolan is thinking about the Penguin: Nolan said that he doesn't know how to portray him as a realistic/serious being..., ...KillerCroc, Clayface, Manbat, Scarface are minor, over the top and not very well known villians, and I doubt Nolan wants to bring Mr.Freeze back (please, don't eek ) so shrug ... I hope Nolan knows what he's doing... confused

Because Nolan clearly stated that Penguin is not a serious character, I have made a list of vilainns who would be filmable in Nolans gotham city;

Harley Quinn

Black Mask

Poison Ivy

Ra's Al Ghul

Dr. Hugo Strange

Calculator

Hush - would be awesome

My favourite

Mr. Zsasz

And Bane would be cool 2 biggrin

They did Ra's already

Harley's really a sadly dependent punchin bag to Joker, but maybe that would be her impetus for comin after Bruce.

Ivy in a realistic context would just be Scarecrow with titties. Dr with mind control poisons.

Hugo, that's somethin right there. But I don't know how long it would take to delve into all his shit. That's a bit ambitious.

Calculator is only as good as the villains who contract him.

Hush is pretty sick, but a tough sell without the mystery of his identity.

Zsasz really is the way to go. The simplest to explain and shoot.

Hugo Strange would be awesome. I loved that storyline. And if he hired or was working with Bane, that's pretty much all you'd need.

Harley, to me, only works well as a cartoon character.

Poison Ivy, Riddler, and Penguin are all tough to do, I think. I'd be leery of them.

Even though it was uber campy, Jim Carrey totally nailed Riddler.
I really don't feel the same about Michelle's Catwoman or Uma's Poison Ivy.

This title gives me a funky mental image of Batman with an erection.... confused

I really wanna see my gal Harley. After playing/watching that Arkham Asylum game, I've been dyyyyyying to see somebody play her on the big screen.

Has everyone forgotten about King Tut? sad

I bet they could make some cool storylines with him.

If the penguin has been ruled out as too silly then I think a batman dressed in Egyptian headgear us probably a no no.

Mr Freeze?

Trouble is, with the exception of Joker, most people are going to need to overcome the stigma created by the camp batman period of Pfifer, Swazenegger,Devito, Carrey and Thurman

Well, if they did Bane and took it seriously with the whole basic Knightfall plan, gauntlet, back snap and recovery, that could work.

I have a sneaky feeling it'll end with Batman appearing dead...then a sneaky clue that he's not really either at the end or during the credits - perhaps a little clue that only Gordon gets
