Damn. Lots of hating going on here.

whofarted

If I come across a thread titled "Tornado watch for Paris" or "Tsunami warning for Venice" and I couldn't care less about it, then I simply WON'T CLICK ON IT.

shrug

But Shorttrini, THANK YOU. I live/work in Nassau County and I had no clue that it was a consideration (the morning weather made no mention of anyhting of the sort).

...going to weather.com now...

I saw it on the org when I was sneaking earlier lurking and I saw this thread. So I clicked on the weather on my dashboard (it's a Mac thing) and saw the accuweather.com posting in red.

If I hadn't seen it here, I wouldn't have known until I got home and turned on the TV. nod

Me too. The sky got so dark -- which is why I didn't think tornado weather. In my experience, whenever I've seen tornadoes the sky is a yellowish-green color (like an old bruise) and the air is perfectly still.

nod

I've only experienced that once. Back in '96 (or so) I was at my folks' place (central Nassau on Long Island) and suddenly the sky turned that yellowish-green-black color and it started pouring, then hail came down.

Turns out a small tornado touched down a few towns away.

I remember that. It went right thru our neighborhood in NJ. The sky turned a weird shade of red, and there was this rumbling sound like a train was coming. It was so damn scary! eek

A huge tree in my Granny's yard was ripped out of the ground like a weed.

Speaking of the accuweather.com site, so far this is what it's stating as of 3pm today:

Severe Weather Threatens Albany, New York City, Boston Tuesday

http://www.accuweather.co...adel-1.asp

A surge of tropical air will bring disruptive flooding downpours and locally damaging thunderstorms to Albany, Burlington, New York City and Boston Tuesday.

Tropical moisture and warm air will give the severe weather situation some extra volatility into the evening hours Tuesday.

There is an elevated risk of flash and urban flooding with the event. Prior rain also has the ground soaked, adding to the runoff potential in the suburbs and countryside.

Equally as concerning is the risk of thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts.

Small disturbances embedded within the tropical moisture can impart enough spin at the local level to trigger a few tornadoes.

In some cases, these tornadoes can be rain-wrapped, obscuring their approach.

If thunderstorms approach your area, seek shelter in a secure building or vehicle.

Never drive through flooded roadways. Even a foot of water can sweep your car away.

While a push of cooler air has ended the flooding and damaging thunderstorm threat over much of the mid-Atlantic and Southeast for now and will sweep into New England later tonight, more trouble lies ahead late in the week from the tropics.

The threat was diminishing as of the mid-afternoon over New Jersey, the Delmarva and the Delaware Valley from west to east.

Around New York City, Burlington, Vt. and the Hudson Valley, the risk of dangerous storms and flooding downpours will linger into part of the evening rush hour.

In Hartford and Boston as well as Providence, R.I., the threat will not diminish until later this evening.

Chocolate1, this is what I pulled from weather.com:

AT 315 PM... RADAR INDICATED BANDS OF SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING OVER NEW JERSEY... FROM SUSSEX COUNTY SOUTHWARD INTO SOUTHERN GLOUCESTER COUNTY... AND MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH. ANY HEAVY SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE LOCALLY STRONG WIND GUSTS... AND AN ISOLATED TORNADO IS STILL NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM.

PEOPLE IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY... THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA... THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY AND SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT SHOULD STILL KEEP AN EYE TO THE SKY...

Why shit on this, G? rolleyes

Y'know what...you're right. Next time there's a weather watch where I live...or a levee about to break with widespread flooding (as happened in Portage a couple days ago), I'll be alllllll over it.

And everyone who doesn't live here (which is pretty much everyone) will get to hear about it, too. Because I know they're all interested. smile

Oh - and I know what a tornado watch is for. My first career was in weather. Which is why I think it's ridiculous to post something like this on a global message board.

Yeah, somewhere in Queens. One tornado in Brooklyn, one in Queens, and the macroburst all on the same day. I live in Manhattan was all "whistling, it wasn't that bad." There was also a macroburst 1-2 years ago on the UWS (near where I lived at the time) that destroyed a ton of trees in Riverside and Central Parks.

I was at the office in Manhattan when it happened and thought it was just raining really hard. Then I got home to Queens that evening and saw all the damage. eek

there was a little tornado near my work in the mid 90s. We don't have them here EVER as far as I know, we have gales (and cyclones up north), but not like a proper twister.

I was at work and when I looked out the window there was 0 visibility, it really looked like looking into a washing machine, just water and stuff pelting the window.

When I walked home, I followed in it's path, it had gone down this one street and pulled all the trees out along the road. A my place a huge tree was uprooted and fallen into the adjacent building smashing all the windows on that side, and the overhead lines for the trams had all blown away eek

Nothing compared to a REAL tornado, but scary (for us!)

This is totally true, and I don't think that many folk on this forum know better than Genesia that when you put something out there you gotta be able to take the heat if it doesn't come off as funny or whatever. So she was a bitch to post that and got called out on it. OK.

THAT said, I was kinda surprised at the hardcore-ness of a lot of the posts from both directions. Damn. lol
I don't know what kind of nuclear shit was being emitted from our screens yesterday cuz it's not just on this thread. People were at each other's throats on a few threads. eek

My parents told me a week later that the tenant below me told them that an electrical transformer on my block had caught on fire during the tornado. I never knew. I never see any of the other tenants in my building since I'm only home between 11pm and 9am. lol They must think I'm some kind of urban legend. hmmm

I agree with most of what you said here. If your looking for clarity into why it was taken so far w/ Ms. Genesia I think it has something to do with the fact that she is regularly shitting on other's threads or comments.

I personally think that people are getting tired of the shit around here and aren't going to take the BS anymore. There is just no reason to be so hatefull all the damn time. No reason at all.

Anyways, thats very commendable of you to take a bat for your friend. I can only speak for myself, but I think she is a self righteous bitch.

I usually ignore her comments that irritate me on a regular basis, cuz I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. Like maybe, she makes all these rude comments cuz she cares and it's 'tough love', but then I realized that naw, she's just being a bitch. shrug
