Random question - am travelling to Canada, changing at MPLS airport. Anything worth seeing while I'm there!! Obviously a Prince shrine is out of the question but any recommendations welcome.

Is it a nice airport? Anywhere decent to grab a bite to eat? Any shops??

Sorry, not familiar with that airport in that part of US.

Yes it's nice and yes there are all kinds of eating places there and shops

It's not a HUGE airport but it's nice

My husband flys in there about once every 6 weeks for business in MPLS

if you have a long layover you could try to go to the Mall of the Americas which is not too far from the airport

I'd ask for ideas on things to see/do there, but a quick google suggests there isn't any!

Am going shopping though. Maple syrup and an I heart Canada t-shirt.

As far as I know, there is no Prince stuff in the airport. The airport itself always seems quiet and clean when I'm there. (Usually in the Northwest terminal.) They have okay food options; I'm a vegetarian and they always give me the when I ask for stuff without the meat on it.

LOL. Man, with as much as I want to go to Minneapolis, it's been so frustrating to me because over the last few years I've changed flights there like three times and none of those times was a long enough layover to go out and see anything.

I defo wanna go next year.

It's a nice enough airport -- clean, modern, decent shops (several of them First Nations-themed), decent restaurants. But depending on your layover time, you may want to consider stretching out...

* The Mall of America, the second-largest mall in North America, is only about a 5-minute ride from the MPLS airport. It's got all the big-name shops and eateries you could think of, a 14-screen movie theater, a really nice aquarium in its basement (which right now has a fantastic jellyfish exhibit ), even a Nickelodeon-themed indoor amusement park complete with two or three roller coasters. There's also an IKEA just across the street from the mall. I'd bet there is a free shuttle to the mall from the airport, but if not, I know there are free shuttles to nearby hotels, which themselves have free shuttles to the mall.

* If you're not the mall type, check out the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge nearby. Miles and miles of gorgeous protected marsh, wetlands and forest. You can get a free shuttle from the airport to the Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport - Mall of America. The Refuge is just across the street from that hotel. And when you're done, you could catch a shuttle from the hotel back to the aiport (only about 5 mins away) at 25 after every hour.

* If you've got a bit more time -- and access to wheels -- Paisley Park studios is about a 25-minute ride west of the airport in Chanhassan, Minn. Can't do much there but literally look at the outside of the building and go, but it might be a fun cheap thrill. First Avenue nightclub is about the same distance north of the airport in downtown MPLS. In either case, consider traffic and the time of day you may be travelling -- obviously, rush hour isn't your friend.

...I was in MPLS about a month ago entertaning three kids for a week. Fantasies of child abandonment aside, I got to know and enjoy the airport and vicinity fairly well. The Twin Cities are a nice spot.

Both are a long way from the Minneapolis airport.
