I'm Haunted By Johnny Walker Black I hate the number 3. I always have. If I wake up (which apparently used to happen often) and the hour is 3:33 am, I have to go back to sleep so I can wake up at a later time that doesn't have any repeating 3s. I wouldn't call it a superstition other than an irrational distate for the number 3.
Anyways, I'm currently re-reading the first of have a book called "Absurdistan", a wildly hilarious book written by Gary Shteyngart. It follows two other books I just finished, Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore, and Aravind Adiga's startling debut novel, The White Tiger. Anyways, to make a long story short, Johnny Walker (the liquor brand) plays a very prominent role in all three novels. I don't even drink Johnny Walker. But in Kafka on the Shore a character that calls himself Johnny Walker and even dresses like the mascot plays in intregal role in the turn of events that affects the main characters in the book. In The White Tiger a broken bottle of Johnny Walker Black is used to determine the fait and outcome of the main character, and a symbolic catalyst for rising out of India's castes system. In the current novel, Johnny Walker Black is being used by the main character to dull the pain of his father's untimely murder (Believe it or not, this is a comedy) which is the main event thus far in this book. In each of the stories the drink is not mentioned as-a-matter-of-factly but is actually expounded and meditated upon for certain properties or 'uses'. This is just too fucking weird. 3, 3, 3,. ... UGH. Do you have reoccurring patters that pop up in your life that weird you out a bit?

in my scripts i play with numbers a lot.
in gaging noel, the number 3 is used a lot in a lot of different ways. there are 3 leads, characters often say things 3 times, some lines have an example 1, example 2, example 3 feel very close to the comedy rule of 3s. i even have a small comedic section where the parents of one of the leads start all 6 or so of their lines with a word repeated 3 times, as in "love love love and want the best for you" and such. (it makes more sense in context) additionally, since it involves the birthdate and deathdate of a dead friend, a lot of numbers based on those dates appear. numerous times (probably 9) we hear a train announcement that says the next trains will arrive in 12 or 25 minutes, as he was born on christmas day. 12/25. the hospital room number is 414, as he was murdered on 4/14. and one of the characters has a line that begins "so, word at the nurses station is the terror in room 414 is finally leaving" in beasts of surburbia, the numbers used a lot are 10, 13, and 16, for reasons i would rather not go into. buried in the script is a sequence of numbers worked into a line that spells the name of the person that the show is based loosely on. i love playing with numbers in little subliminal ways in my scripts. it's fun for me and gives people that see the show a second time one of several little head trips when you see all the stuff buried in it that you didn't catch the first time. Oh. My. God!!! x infinity. Does anybody else see what she's doing? It's sooooo transparent. She's pulling the 'Opposites attract' routine and subversively trying to influence me with her subtle but surgical rhetoric! OMG, Carrie!!! I'm sooooo totally bookmarking this thread! I should have gotten the hint when you announced flying to Thailand, , but I'm old fashioned and kind of slow with the ways of subversive, subliminal, surgically devastating non-flirt flirtations. Group. Hug. OMG, lawd.
