Well, it seems this "totally sane" man killed a Vietnam Vet that was a devoted father and grandfather.

Standing outside Hunter's house in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, Ken Hunter said he wanted to tell people about his father after hearing about Stack's life and his anti-tax crusade. He was alarmed by comments from Stack's friends who said he was a good person and Internet postings calling the pilot a hero.

"People say (Stack) is a patriot. What's he a patriot for? He hasn't served the country. My dad did two tours of Vietnam and this guy is going to be a patriot and no one is going to say that about my dad? That's what got me started talking. I couldn't stand it anymore," Ken Hunter said.

In the note, Stack wrote that he realized "violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer."

This motherfucker was "totally sane"?

Give me a fucking break.

he was sane. He knew what he was doing and he had a point make and a message to deliver.

Sane people do not kill themselves.

He might have had the ability to reason, but he damn sure wasn't sane.

To say he was sane is to give him legitimacy, and that I will never do.

sure they do. Sane people do all kinds of horrible things.

He might have had the ability to reason, but he damn sure wasn't sane.

based on what? he certainly knew what he was doing. He was ablte to write that letter, he set his house on fire so the IRS would not get it, he was able to (reportedly) put extra fule in his plane to make the fire bigger! He knew what he was doing, it was planed out, he knew it was wrong.

To say he was sane is to give him legitimacy, and that I will never do.

Not at all. Charles Manson was no insane! Hitler was not insane. To say he was insane excused his behavior. If one is insane then they are not responsible for their acts. The do not know right from wrong.

I am thinking that you want to understand 'why'? and as you can not (I can not either) that then your need to have an explanation takes the easy way out and says he must be insane! I understand there is comfort in that, as knowing that a normal person, someone you or I know, could do something like that someday is a scary thought.

So you define suicide as insanity?
I disagree with that.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Nah, all of what I said is in response to Erin's comment that his letter made him look "totally sane".

I'm not a degreed psychologist, but I am certain that someone who decides to willingly kill innocent people and himself is not "totally" sane.

ok i got it now. I agree, doing something 'crazy' means you are a little bit not sane just maybe not insane enough to use it as a defense.

This guy was a bit off his rocker, just not to a clinical degree. (so pretty much just like me?)

This is so sad. It seems this whackjob's daughter is as nutty as he was:

Joe Stack's adult daughter, Samantha Bell, spoke to ABC's "Good Morning America" from her home in Norway. Asked during a phone interview broadcast Monday if she considered her father a hero, she said: "Yes. Because now maybe people will listen."

Hunter's son, Ken Hunter, said he's alarmed by comments that the pilot was a hero.

"How can you call someone a hero who after he burns down his house, he gets into his plane ... and flies it into a building to kill people?" Hunter told ABC." "My dad Vernon did two tours of duty in Vietnam. My dad's a hero."

He's right. HIS dad is a hero, not this fucking nutjob.

Holy crap, I watched the ABC News interview with this scumbag's daughter. Geez, she's as fucked up as her dad was.

She said he burned down his house because he paid taxes on the house, so that made the house the government. And she thought that was RIGHT. The house was the government.

She moved to Norway because Medicaid wouldn't pay for some illness she had. Ummmm...hey, stupid? MEDICAID IS THE GOVERNMENT AND IS FUNDED BY TAXES.

Idiot.
