Wii or not to Wii (X Box) that is the question?

Gamers! Boys! Girls!

My girlfriend wants a Wii yet I want an X Box? Which one would you get if you were in my position? I only really like sports games plus that new Batman game looks kinda sweet.

What would you suggest?

I'd get a Wii nod

I have both.

If you want to play games like Batman, Resident Evil, any EA sports games, Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead, GTA, OO7, Rock Band, etc, you should get a 360. No question. The Wii will not suffice for those types of games, and usually support limited versions (fewer features and lower quality graphics) of those titles. I think the 360 is the best console for a gamer, especially if you want to play against or with people online.

However, unless your girlfriend is an experienced gamer too, she would most likely prefer the Wii. Unlike xbox, it's an easy-to-learn console with cute games that she should enjoy playing with you instantly. Also, if you like Mario games, you HAVE to get a Wii, since those are excellent and are only released for that system.

So, in conclusion, get a 360 and a Wii if you can. lol

Like the above has said Xbox is the way to go if you want to play more "hardcore" sort of games. While the Wii does have some good titles they are few and far between compared to the Xbox which has a good catalog of great quality games. Online is also a big plus for the Xbox as Nintendo just do not want to even bother trying hard when it comes to stuff outside their comfort zone

Do you want to game or placate your girl?

If you're looking for a gaming system you need to go Xbox. If you want an accessible system that the girl will like but 90% of the software is gimmicky crap, the Wii is it.

Not to say the Wii doesn't have some good games, but overall the motion controls are shoveled into the good games simply to make use of the gimmick. New Super Mario Bros being a prime example. Good game, but screwed up by the motion controls hindering the game experience.

Sports games? Xbox. Arkham Asylum? Can't play it on Wii. Xbox again.

Yes, sometimes I wish I could just turn the controller sideways and use it the old-fashioned way instead of moving my wrists and arms, lol, but for most games that's not possible.

But if you do like that type of realistic motion activity during a game, just wait until Project Natal for 360 is released next year:

I don't know how Wii will be able to compete with that. lol

my wife did the same thing to me. the thing is, she doesn't really like videogames, and now we're stuck with a machine nobody uses.

Since my videogaming days are far behind me, we're talking Atari/Intellivision days, I had no interest at all in new gaming systems...that is until I tried Wii tennis at the store early last year. I decided to shell out the bucks and picked it up. I love it. I was addicted to Wii sports (tennis and boxing in particular). Then got Mario Kart and played it to death. I picked up Tiger Woods golf and its pretty damn fun and accurate when it comes to the motions of golf...especially the putting. One of the things I really like about it is when I have friends over EVERYone can play and enjoys it.

One of my friends who is a hard core gamer always complains how crappy the Wii is compared to xbox. We all tried xbox over the summer when he had a party...and all us 30/40 year olds were completely confused and no idea what we were doing. WAY too many buttons (I still miss the old Atari joystick) We universally agree'd that the Wii is MUCH more fun.
