Three years ago today...

I was visiting Florida and met up with an Orger with whom I'd shared some online jokes, a few good-natured phone conversations, and a love of old-school hip-hop. We expected to have a few beers, shoot the shit and laugh a lot.

We didn't expect to fall in love.

But around midnight, on a packed dancefloor, that's exactly what happened. So sweetly and gently I didn't even feel it coming, my heart was utterly captured by this gorgeous, hilarious, warm, strong, completely unique guy. Incredibly, he felt the same.

This morning, in the middle of getting our children ready for school and watching him play with our dog, I wondered: if someone had flashed this scene of our happily married life to me three years ago, would I have believed it? I do know that I can't believe three years has flown by, and at the same time it feels like we've been together forever. I've never been so completely happy, comfortable, supported and challenged in a relationship before. And it just gets better.

I just wanted to acknowledge it here, because I'll always be grateful to this place for leading me to the love of my life and the devoted father my girls deserve.

I loves him. mushy

That's great to hear. smile

People who meet our family (we each had 2 kids when we met) are usually surprised that we're a blended family; we all fit together so well. We are truly blessed.

I know it's dark here, you know that I'm scared too
For some reason right now, of everything but you
Right now you're all that I recognize
You know I came here when I needed your soft voice
I needed to hear something that sounded like an answer
Now I wait here, and sometimes I get one

It's nothing I'll forget when the moon gets dark
You are stuck to me everyday
Believe in what I am because it's all I have today
And tomorrow who knows where we'll be
From here I can hardly see a thing
But I will follow anyone who brings me to you
For now, forever, for on and on and on

You know it starts here, outside waiting in the cold
Kiss me once in the snow, I swear it never gets old
But I will promise you I can make it warmer next year
You know I came here when I needed your soft voice
I needed to hear something that sounded like an answer
Now I stay here, and everyday I get one

It's nothing I'll forget when the moon gets dark
You are stuck to me everyday
Believe in what I am because it's all I have today
And tomorrow who knows where we'll be
From here I can hardly see a thing
But I will follow anyone who brings me to you
For now, forever, for on and on and on

So go plug in your electric blanket
We can stay here 'till our southern summer wedding day
Go plug in your electric blanket
We can stay here
It's what you make it.

Thanks. heart I love it too, for so many reasons.

I don't really talk about it here, but I have a long past that includes all types of abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, etc.), trauma and heartbreak. It has made me strong and I learned to be independent and think forward instead of looking back. I was all right with "doing bad all by myself" and taking care of myself and my daughters alone.

But when I met Chris, for the first time in my life there was someone capable and willing to take care of me, really take care of me. As in protect me, keep me safe, do for me what I cannot do for myself, and encourage and challenge me to do all that I can do.

My youngest daughter was having a terrible asthma attack yesterday, and I couldn't call in to work. Chris stayed home with her all day, giving her her breathing treatments, bringing her to the doctor, feeding her, all the things a dad should do. Those small, simple things are what make him so amazing to me.

That's awesome. I remember a long time ago, you posted a story about when you guys first met in person. It was something about how when you first saw him, you just really wanted to hug him, that you were instantly attracted to and safe with him but you wanted to act cool. (If I'm remembering the story correctly--it really struck a chord with me when you posted it way back when.) Anyway, I love that your first initial instinct was so true and has remained so.
