Thrilling discussion - how do you clean your house?

Ok so I'm a total lazyarse....

I tend to let things accumulate in piles then occasionally attack the house in a frenzy and clean it from top to bottom.

For about eleventy squillion years I've been telling myself to pick up as I go but I'm so easily distracted that everything gets half done before I move on to the next thing to half do.

So for those of you who are terribly efficient housekeepers, how do you do it? Do you have any tricks to maintaining order or are you just anal and born that way?

It's shitting me that whenever someone comes to visit I look around and see that I have a few hours of cleaning to do..... lol

I clean house twice a week, and I work from room to room. I try to keep the clutter down as much as possible, and wipe things down between cleanings.

I don't officially clean at any one stage, but I pick up as I go and there are things that get done daily (laundry, dishes, benches, tabletop) and vacuuming weekly, kids do their own rooms a few times a week.

So you finish a room before starting the next? What a novel idea! I'm gonna try that!!!!

Good kids! I think the fact my parents didn't make me do it is the reason why I don't do it now.

I bribe and threaten, it doesn't happen naturally

I say, I'll be vacuuming tomorrow, so anything you want to keep, get off the floor thanks!

Sure do...that way I feel it's more organized instead of doing one thing in one room then going to another. I make a list....

Living Room:

Pick up
Dust
etc etc...

Then check off as I go.

I clean the house every friday.
I figure during the week we're both too busy working to care too much if it gets a bit messy. I like us to have a freshly cleaned house to enjoy on our down time (weekends).

I sweep and vacuum first. Then I dust. Then mop.
While the floor dries I clean the bathroom.
The guest bath only gets thorough cleaning (meaning the shower) about once a month, being that it doesn't get used as much. Otherwise it gets wiped down and floor cleaned.

Wow boy am I shit at this!!!

I decided to take the advice of cleaning one room at a time.

I hung up and put away all the newly clean clothes and then decided to strip the bed and put on a load of washing.

So while I'm in the garage putting on the load I noticed the shoerack I started staining a few weeks ago....half-stained.

So I stained the rest of it...then saw the pile of books in the garage that I meant to put away last week. I brought them up to the study and put them on the desk, noticed the cd's that I'd ripped yesterday, put them down in the living room, saw the plants outside needed watering...watered them, picked up some other random crap and brought it back to the study...sat down and started posting.

Completely forgetting about the rest of the bedroom shake no no no!

Me too. I have dark burgundy carpeting, so I vacuum a lot. I hate when it looks like there are "specks" on the rugs.
I'm always dusting something...

Laundry on the weekends.

hmmm I do my cleaning in pretty much the exact opposite order.

I dust and clean the bathroom first. Then I sweep. I mop last because I feel like if I clean/dust after then I'm just scattering dust and splashing water from the sink/shower on the freshly cleaned floor. smile

Some of you must clean incessantly. eek

I know I'm a bit of a slob, but I can't imagine vacuuming 3 times a week. I'm lucky if I sweep even once a week. I dust, like, once every two months or so when I know I'm having "guests" (which means it's not one of my bffs).

My dishes are done every day and especially now that I have my own washing machine and dryer, once I have a full load it goes in and it's done right away. I wipe spills in the kitchen and stuff.

I haven't mopped once since I moved in. I probably won't mop for at least another few months.

I just don't think it really gets that dirty. Is it because you guys have kids?

That's exACTly how it works for me. I start something and then something else and then something else and then something else and nothing really ever gets finished.

It's not "dirty".
The dark carpeting gets lint really easily, dust settles, the white kitchen floor gets spots... and a bathroom ALWAYS needs to be clean.

My sister said I clean more than anyone she knows.

I once read that a round house gathers no dust as the air is constantly moving and no corners are there to allow it to gather.

I'm going to live in a round hobbit house when I win the lottery yay!

I keep things neat and tidy all the time as I see stuff out of place, but I don't dust as often as I should. During the day when the windows are open the place just gathers filth. disbelief
