As much as I love Venus & Serena, I actually disagree. The rankings don't need to be changed. The WTA has a responsibility to all the tournaments, so de-emphasizing their importance would be detrimental. Serena was in the midst of a 4-match losing streak before the French Open, which is how she lost the #1 ranking. Both Venus and Serena had a chance to be #1 if they had won the French. To Safina's credit, she's been remarkably consistent this year. She's the only player to reach at least the semifinals of the last 4 slams (including 2 finals). The Williams sisters will keep doing their thing at the slams. Rankings have no effect on their performance. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Despite her dominance on the big stages, Serena will stay at No. 2 in the world rankings behind Dinara Safina. The Russian reached the top spot this year even though she has never won a Grand Slam title. She was routed 6-1, 6-0 by Venus in the Wimbledon semifinals.
"I think if you hold three Grand Slam titles maybe you should be No. 1, but not on the WTA Tour obviously," Serena said. "My motivation is maybe just to win another Grand Slam and stay No. 2, I guess," she added with a laugh. "I'd rather definitely be No. 2 and hold three Grand Slams in the past year than be No. 1 and not have any"

Thanks to the US Open Series, we get tennis on TV just about every week from Wimbledon to the US Open. Real tennis fans (like myself) watch tennis every day on the Tennis Channel.

Again, no one's arguing that the Grand Slams aren't the most important thing in tennis. Of course they are. But real tennis fans know they aren't the only thing. And real fans watch tennis when it's on, not just when there's a slam being played. You ... well most tennis fans watch warm up tournaments to get an assessment of the players form going into the SLAMS. That's why they're called warm up events. The U.S. Open Series is a series of warm up events leading up to the U.S. Open Championships.

Hmmm, clearly you havent seen many players after match interviews, most losers have the ability to give props to the opppenet for either playing well, or just outplaying them (even when they dont like it - hence my gracious in defeat comment). No putting them down in the same breath See, I've been watching pro tennis for decades and do remember that no one, and I mean no one ever beat Anna Kournakova. In her interviews, she always beat herself. The bitch beat herself out of tennis without ever winning a single tournament. There's Ille Nastase, John McEnroe and Jimmy Conners who weren't ever too gracious in defeat either. I'm like that myself so I find no fault with the practice. Why smile and congratulate someone who just embarrassed you in front of millions.

I've seen a bunch of tennis players blame their loss on shit like injuries or it was too dark to continue playing or the fuckin' heat, so miss me with that nonsense cuz I ain't the one, trust and believe. Let's not forget Dementieva who cursed the officials at the Australian Open for closing the roof when Serena beat her. She blamed the good conditions of the in-door court for her defeat.

Both Serena and Venus, when they make the effort are both attractive women, but I guess as in most things black folks have to try that little bit harder all the gotdamn time! What are you taking about? Everyone here always called Steffi a monster. Beauty is VERY subjective, some people thought Steffi was not great and some people think these 2 are not great, personally speaking I think all 3 leave a lot to be desired on the physical side. If we are JUST talking physical then Steffi wasn't exactly a looker in the face department and these 2 look like dudes in the body department. That has fuck all to do with skin tone. Just a fact. If these 2 look like dudes in the body department then your eyes must only see trannies.

Indian Wells and Miami certainly don't fall into that category. All tournaments count for points, we all know that and you stated truthfully that tournaments like these two are mandatory for all the top players in the game. But Serena doesn't need to concentrate on those. To solidify her place in tennis history, all she needs to do now is rack up slams. 11 and counting.
